4 Our Church News Special thanks to for providing music today for the service. Thank you Lorene for filling in for Jack while he is out of town. Special guest musician Mike Hubert will share his love for the Lord thru music next Sunday in the worship service. Mike sings, plays the guitar and writes his own music. We invited him back again this year by popular request. Mike will be here next Sunday, July 10. Great thanks again to Van and Judy Nadeau for hosting another great Congo EnjoyMeant campfire! All who came had a great time of fun, food and fellowship! Much appreciation to all who made a contribution to the Creative Ministries fund! We are back in black! Thank you for all the prayers, cards and phone calls while I had my knee replacement. Things are going good and I am looking forward to seeing everyone again. Last Saturday we had fabulous morning making 10 Team Keegan Prize Boxes with Alcoa Employees & some members of the First Congregational Church! Thank you all so much for taking time out on this fabulous summer day to help put smiles on kids fighting cancer. Thank you to the First Congregational Church of Fremont and Pastor Ray for allowing us to work on our Team Keegan boxes there! In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call or visit 14th Annual Fremont United Methodist Church Garden Tour & Salad Luncheon Friday, July 8th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (gardens only) Saturday, July 9th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tickets include complementary refreshments and bar cookies. 5 Announcing ConGo Enjoy-Meant Events We are ConGo (Christians on the Go) and meant to go and enjoy good food and fun activities together! Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Neh. 8:10 Go and enjoy Monday, July 18- Campfire and Boat Rides at the Morehouses, 6:30-8:30pm- Fellowship and a campfire around Dean and Jean's lakeside firepit with boat rides by Captain Dean to boot. If you're a good sailor, he might let ya drive the boat! Campfire Treats, too! If it s hot out and you want to cool off the lake will be open. Address is 6163 Lakeview Dr., Fremont. Saturday, July 30- Tailgate Party and Whitecaps Baseball Game- Come to one or both! Tailgate Party starts at 4:00pm in the church parking lot and lawn. Hot dogs, brats, chips and water provided for a contribution. Bring your own softdrinks if you'd like. Please also bring a dish to pass. Congo Caravan will depart at 5:30 for the 7:00pm game. Rides provided for any who needs one. Game ticket is $ Thursday, August 4, 7:00pm- Vaudeville In The Park Benefitting Team Keegan- The show pays tribute to great comedic performers from the vaudeville era and those inspired by it who performed later on in movies and television. The show also hopes to benefit Team Keegan. Team Keegan s focus is to help "put smiles on cancer kid s faces." For more information go to The Vaudeville In The Park show will be held at Veterans Memorial Park Amphitheater, in Fremont, and is free for all. A free will offering will be taken for Team Keegan along with a Baked Goodies sale. Volunteers needed to bake some goodies! August Congo Campout at Henning Park (Newaygo)- You can camp for the weekend or join the campers for Saturday activities. The pot luck time is 5:30pm but you can come earlier in the day for kayaking, tubing and games. A kayak or tube can be provided if needed (let Mat know). We'll finish the day with a campfire sing-a-long. Bring an instrument or just your voice... or just your ears! "How long Pastor's prayer is this morning," thought Elvina Hall. Sitting in the choir loft, Elvina's mind turned to our need for salvation and the price Jesus paid for it. Words began to form themselves. She had to get them down. But she had no paper. Well, that wasn't quite true...scribbling on the flyleaf of her hymnbook, she wrote: I hear the Savior say, "Thy strength indeed is small; Child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in Me thine all in all." Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow. Not bad. Not bad at all. After service, she handed the words to her pastor. Did his face crease into a little smile at this evidence of her "naughty" behavior? We may never know. But we do know that an extraordinary "coincidence" took place that day at the Monument Street Methodist Church of Baltimore. Organist John Grape had recently written a new tune and given it to the pastor. The pastor saw that the tune and the poem fit together extremely well. So he united them. In that way one of the most beloved hymns of the church came into being - Jesus Paid it All. - Celebration Blue Hymnal #305 Elvina Hall was 45 at that time. Born on this day, June 4, 1820, she was married first to Richard Hall and then after his death, to a Methodist minister, Thomas Meyers. She died in Burdens Are Lifted at Calvary 1. Days are filled with sorrow and care, Hearts are lonely and drear. CHORUS: Burdens are lifted at Calvary, Calvary, Calvary; 2. Cast your care on Jesus today, Leave your worry and fear. 3.
