Holy and merciful God, C: give us a clear vision to see what is right and true, and the courage to live by it, whatever the cost may be. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. The Lutheran Church teaches that HOLY COMMUNION is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ given with bread and wine, instituted by Christ himself for us Christians to eat and drink to strengthen us in faith and service. This sacrament is for baptised Christians who repent of their sins, believe in Jesus as their only Saviour, and intend to live as God wants them to. If you wish to receive Holy Communion from your pew, can you please confirm with the presiding Pastor, the Elder on duty, or one of the Ushers, before the service begins. Len Hoffrichter Our friend and long-time member of St Mark s, Leonard Hoffrichter died peacefully on Wednesday morning at Mt Barker hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with Pam and her family at this time. Leonard's funeral will be held on Friday July 20th at 10:30am at St Mark s with a committal to follow in Maccelsfield. FIRST COMMUNION We are seeking expressions of interest from families with children keen to start receiving communion at St Marks. We hope to run a preparation course before too long. This would be open but not limited to children around 10 years of age. Please speak to Pastor Ben if you are interested. PASTOR S LEAVE From July 16th Pastor Ben will be on annual leave. Pastor David Kent has kindly agreed to take services on Sunday July 22nd.

3 3 SOUP MORNING FUNDRAISER - Sunday 22 nd July Enjoy a beautiful homemade soup between services or take soup home to enjoy later (or both!) Please bring a gold coin or 2! SUNDAY SCHOOL Sunday School will resume on 5 August. Sunday School is available for children from 4 years of age to grade 3. We meet between the services from approx. 9:40am-10:20am in either the meeting room or the hall. We are looking for more people to help with teaching or be a helper. If you wish to know more please see Emma Graetz or Pastor Ben. MAINLY MUSIC Mainly Music helpers for Term 3, Roster is on the notice board. MandM s (Mary & Martha s Women s Social Group) Next get together is 19 th July 6.30pm Soup and Speaker. M&M s Christine Lockwood will share her recent New Guinea experiences. If able, please bring along an item to put into the gift basket for our Girl s Night In raffle THE OPEN DOOR BOOKSHOP The Open Door Bookshop is open between services. Each month there are a range of books, etc chosen from Koorong for you to view There are also a variety of cards to purchase. Please place money in envelopes provided and place in Jane Hill's pigeon hole. SCRABBLE WRONG DATE Next Scrabble challenge will be held on 21 ST July 1pm (Not yesterday!) at Milburn s home. COMBINED SUPPORTING MISSION SERVICE - 29 TH JULY There will be a combined service on the 29 th July at 9.30am with speakers from ALWS to inform us further on our work and support with our Cambodian partnership both during and after the Church Service. Please mark this date on your calendar and prepare to come along to hear stories about our overseas friends and how we can continue to help. There will be a retiring offering on the day. If you would like a tax deductable receipt, a marked envelope with your name and address can be placed on the offering plate. Further details to come next week. E & W committee. 4 4 ABUNDANCE TABLE 5 th August Pastie Day Small Homemade Pasties will be available for purchase at this Abundance table $2 each. You can pre order by putting your name on the notice board or purchase on the day. Every First Sunday the Abundance table is set up for your enjoyment! We would love to see some new products on our table. Please let someone know from the Fundraising committee if you have some new suggestions to improve our table. NEW ROSTER The next roster for August Nov is now available on the table in the foyer. This will also be accessible on the church website under 'Members' from 1 st August. Please remember if you are unable to fill your rostered role, please arrange a replacement. For those on the Morning Tea roster, please follow your next roster when it comes out. Australian Lutheran College has launched its 2018 annual appeal. Your support of this appeal is vital, as together in partnership with you, ALC prepares people to serve in and through the Church. School Council has determined that at least the school s short-term future is on its current site and is selecting an architect to develop a masterplan for it. Cornerstone and St Marks school are talking about how to achieve a seamless K-12 connection. A special thankyou to Janice Cecil for all she did while Adrian was away. Pastor has expressed appreciation for the involvement of members in meeting the congregation s considerable pastoral needs. Lectern. Hills Community Options has presented a lectern to St Marks in memory of Pastor Eric Liebelt. Pastor Ben will soon be undergoing his one-year review. He will have one week s leave from July 16. Pastor Kent will take services. Mt Barker Ministers Fellowship. Pastor Christian serves as treasurer. Pastor Ben will help organize the Community Prayer Breakfast on Oct 19. Mission work in Cambodia presentation and retiring offering (tax-deductible) - July 29. General Pastors Conference at St Michael s this past week discussed recommendations to Synod (in Oct.) re woman s ordination, infant communion and full membership in the Lutheran World Federation and the International Lutheran Council. 6 6 LUTHERAN ARCHIVES The Pacific war in New Guinea: remembering the dead. Dr Christine Winter, an historian at Flinders University with a special interest in the German presence in PNG, reflects on the stories of those who lived and died next to each other during WWII - New Guinea villagers, missionaries, Australians, Germans and Japanese. Can we share grief across former enemy nations and different cultures? And what do we gain by doing this? You are invited to the next Friends of Lutheran Archives (FoLA) meeting on Monday 23 rd July, Bethlehem House, Sudholz Place in the City pm, gold coin donation, supper included. All welcome. If you missed out on purchasing a copy of the Lutheran last week, they are still available in the Link after church. The Onkaparinga Lutheran Men's Fellowship is commemorating the 50th Anniversary of our first meeting, (August ), with a Special Celebration Dinner to be held in the Birdwood Lutheran Church Hall on Saturday August and you are all invited! The evening begins with drinks at 6.00pm. OUR CAMBODIAN VILLAGE 2018 To support our village in Cambodia. Our Target is $5,500 and if the congregation can contribute $440 per month, we can easily reach that amount.
