At the end of the service we invite you to please join us for a cuppa and chat. Our Lord s love and peace be with you. Congregation Pastor: Jaswanth Kukatlapalli College Principal: John Thompson 14 Havelock St, Wodonga College Chaplain: Andrew Dewhirst Ph: (02) Drage Rd, Wodonga jaswanth.kukatlapalli@lca.org.au Ph: (02) wodluthp@westnet.com.au reception@vlc.vic.edu.au

2 WELCOME - A note for friends and visitors amongst us. We are glad you are here with us! A quick note about the Lutheran Divine service and what we believe about worship. To us worship isn t so much about what we do, but about what God does. Lutherans believe God is present with us through the Word and Sacraments we receive. In fact, we teach that in the Lutheran Divine Service, God comes to forgive us, to feed us, bless us and send us out into the world. Our Liturgy identifies God s performative work amongst us and as we receive this ministry of the Word and Sacrament we in turn respond to God through, responses, songs, prayers giving our thanks and praise. I am new to a Lutheran Worship Service, so should I go to the front for the Holy Communion or not? We teach that, Holy Communion is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ given with bread and wine, instituted by Christ himself for Christians to eat and drink. As you come to this sacrament, you come as: a sinner who wants God s forgiveness; a baptised believer who trusts that Jesus died for the forgiveness of sin; a guest who humbly accepts what Jesus gives: His true body and blood with the bread and wine; a witness who gladly joins us in our public confession of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord. All who do not commune are still invited to receive an individual blessing. You can communicate your intention of doing so by simply folding your arms across your chest as come forward. If you have any questions about Lutherans Divine service or Holy Communion feel free to check with the Pastor at the end of the service. 3 PRAYER OF THE CHURCH In our prayers this week: We pray for the following that are in need at this time: Graham ZWECK; Wendy BORGERT; Melva KLEMKE; Marianne WACHTMANN; Kerryn JENNINGS; Frank KELLY; Laurel McRAE; Veronica SEMMLER. Victory Lutheran College Mrs Levertt, Mrs Mollison & Mitta 4 Care Group; Students & Staff for Year 4 Bike Education Week and Indonesian Immersion Tour. Laverton Slovak congregation Pastor Jan Havjar and Elissa. Melbourne Estonian congregation Pastor Phil Haar and Ruth. Melbourne Finnish congregation Pastor Ian Vainikka and Katy; Pastor Jorma Jormakka (em.) and Marjatta. Melbourne Hungarian congregation Pastor Janos Dabasy and Eva. Melbourne Latvian congregation Pastor Dainis Markovskis. Melbourne Swedish congregation Pastor Gunnar Olafsgard. LCA Bishop encourages church to pray for General Synod 2018: Thank you so much, heavenly Father, for sending us your Son Jesus, the Living Word. May he be in us, and we in him. Help us be faithful witnesses to his true light that shines on everyone. As you have baptised us in your name and made us members of the body of your Son, keep us close to him and to one another as we prepare for our General Convention of Synod in Sydney. We can t hide our concerns and our fears from you. As we face of difficult decisions, some of us question our unity. You promise us there is no fear in love, because perfect love casts out fear. Give us that love, Lord, and help us put our fears aside, trusting you to reveal your truth. Please help us always choose the loving path of compassion and respect that binds us together in your truth. For when we love one another, the whole world will know that we are your disciples. No matter how strongly we may believe we know your truth and a brother or sister is in error, don t let that stop our loving actions. Teach us what you want us to know through your Word. Give us all grace to turn to you with open hearts, in repentance and prayer. Make us content to walk your way, with grace and faith, as followers of our brother Jesus. If you have any prayer requests and would like to be prayed for by the congregation, please forward via wodluthp@westnet.com.au or phone (02) to Heather Grealy by 11:00am Thursday morning so it can be included in the weekly bulletin.
