C: Jesus our Saviour, thank you for coming to give us life through your suffering and death. Keep us following you wherever you lead us, because we know that you have promised to take us home to God. For you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. The Lutheran Church teaches that HOLY COMMUNION is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ given with bread and wine, instituted by Christ himself for us Christians to eat and drink to strengthen us in faith and service. This sacrament is for baptised Christians who repent of their sins, believe in Jesus as their only Saviour, and intend to live as God wants them to. If you have any questions please see an Elder or Pastor. If you wish to receive Holy Communion from your pew, can you please confirm with the presiding Pastor, the Elder on duty, or one of the Ushers, before the service begins. We also extend a welcome to his wife Chelsea and son Benedict. Tom previously served at Grovedale Lutheran Church in Victoria and now lectures at Australian Lutheran College in North Adelaide. He has kindly agreed to fill in this Sunday so that Pastor Ben can attend the baptism of his nephew. BAPTISMS Next Sunday April 14th is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. We look forward to two baptisms at our 10:30 service, the baptisms of Max Kelly and Aaliyah Wurst. Our thoughts and prayers are with both the Kelly and Wurst families as this special occasion approaches. FELLOWSHIP TIME A reminder that each Sunday between services we enjoy tea, coffee and a time of fellowship. This runs at the same time as Sunday School from about 9:40-10:20. We encourage all members and visitors to stay on after first service or come early before the second service to be part of this time of fellowship. SUNDAY SCHOOL There will be no Sunday School during school holidays. Will resume in May.
3 3 ALC Student Two weeks ago we informally welcomed Mitchell Kitson, a third year pastoral ministry student from Australian Lutheran College. Mitch will be doing field education at St Marks and gradually getting involved with several ministry areas of our congregation as part of his studies. Please get to know him and encourage him in his time with us. HILLS CONNECT The next Hills Connect will be the Cornerstone Passion Meditation on April 7th - Please pre-book online to let them know numbers for supplying tea. LENT SERVICES Come along to our last mid-week service on Wednesday in Lent at 7:30pm. The theme for this year is Truly, this is the Son of God. 4 4 WALK MY WAY Australian Lutheran World Service is once again running its Walk My Way to raise money for the education of children in its refugee camps. On Saturday April 13th many members from across the LCA (including Pastor Ben!) will attempt to walk the 26km from Hahndorf to Beaumont along the pioneer women s trail. You can go to walkmyway.org.au to donate. HERMANNSBURG VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY May 1st to May 14th 2019 A spare seat is available to travel with the Shed Men from St Michaels Hahndorf to Hermannsburg and undertake maintenance work for the Finke River Mission. You will need a swag for outdoor camping whilst on route to and from Hermannsburg, accommodation and food are supplied once we arrive and fuel costs would be split equally. An information evening is being set up by Pastor David Kuss to go over details in the near future. Contact Dale Cavies if you are interested in this mission work APRIL TO JULY ROSTERS Available today in Foyer. Please pick up your copy and check your commitments and availability especially over Easter and make appropriate swaps. EVANGELISM & WELFARE NEWS. Hot Cross Buns During morning recess time at school on Friday 12 th April, the Evangelism and Welfare team are organising for each student and teacher a hot cross bun on behalf of the congregation. We are excited to be able to do this and to show God s love through these buns from the members of our congregation. Each child will also receive a hot cross bun Tract explaining the meaning of the bun and why they are given. If you would like to help us, any small monetary donation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in anticipation of your help. Val Schild LCA SA-NT District Office Mission Stimulus Grant. We are excited to advise of some grants being offered by the LCA SA District church office to assist in training and purchasing of equipment to resource mission initiatives. As there is a need for some shading, seating etc in our new courtyard area, we are pleased to advise that with the help of the Mainly Music / Playgroup mums we have submitted an application for a $5000 grant. Applications for the grant close on the 9 th April. Our application will be discussed at Church Council on this coming Monday for endorsement. SHEDMEN 6 pm. 5 5 HELP SAVE THE PLANET! USE CLOTH BAGS NOT PLASTIC ONES. At the last meeting of Women s Fellowship, a representative from Mt Barker Council spoke to us about War on Waste. To encourage people to do away with plastic bags when purchasing fruit and vegetables, Ladies Fellowship are promoting the use of cloth bags, made by a couple of our members, and available in three different sizes at a cost of $1.00 each. They are washable and are available in the Link for purchase. Please support this project and buy a bag or two. A good website to keep handy is to help us with waste! OPEN DOOR BOOKSHOP This is the last week that copies of 2019 Year book are available for purchase. $20. Please see Jane Hill if interested. New range of books focussing on Lent and Easter available now. Also our clever wood fashioner Ken Herbig has made some beautiful 'comfort' crosses for sale. They may be perfect to give at Easter. Only $4.00. An Easter tract is included with cross. Easter items will not be available after this week. The card selection is available at anytime. Jane Hill The Book Shop will be closed until the 1 st Sunday in May. SOCIAL BIKE RIDING No bike riding for the month of April. We look forward to our next ride Saturday 11/5 at 9.30 meeting at Laratinga Cafe. ABUNDANCE TABLE Cancelled April & May Due to other Fundraising events Please consider how you can support this table. We welcome new ideas or products you can donate for others to love/eat share etc! Next one in June. April 13 th. We have been fortunate to be given a Sausage Sizzle date at Woolworths, Mt Barker. CHURCH CLEANING VOLUNTEER Are there one or two people willing to volunteer their time to clean the church? This would involve vacuuming the church plant, dusting the offices, plus spot cleaning before funerals and weddings. 6 6 SA/NT District Synodical Meeting May 25 th at Salisbury Lutheran Church This meeting will include presentation of the financial reports for the District, updates on the District Office restructure approved at the 2018 Synod meeting and conversations about future mission and ministry opportunities in our District. It is open to all congregational members. At the same time we are expected to provide 3 delegates. As one of our three appointed delegates is unable to go, we are looking for a replacement delegate. If you are willing to fill this role please contact Jon Footer (jonrfoots@hotmail.com) or Christine Lockwood (chris.lockwood@internode.on.net) OUR CAMBODIAN VILLAGE 2019 Target $ we raised our Target amount and that donation helped build a road among other things, which helped children get to school, and farmers to market so they could sell their goods bringing much needed funds for their families. Start now with a generous heart, and fill your pink pigs to overflowing, all year long.
