3 IN WORSHIP TODAY Our Bible Readings for the 9am and 10.30am worship services are from The Good News Bible. For the 9am worship service, they are Isaiah 43:1-7 (page 787) and Acts 8:14-17 (page 1215). The Gospel Reading is Luke 3:15 17, (page 1128). For the 10.30am worship service, the Bible Reading is Luke 3:15 17, (page 1128). The theme and message for both worship services is Who am I, and what defines me? which is based on Luke 3:21 23.This morning, we continue r l Who am I and what defines me? This is a vitally important question that we all need to think about and answer for ourselves. Why? Why is this an important question to answer? Because the way in which we answer this question effects the whole way that we life. How we answer the question, Who am I and what defines me? will determine where we place our priorities, and how we use our time and our energies in this new year and for the rest of our life Three answers that are popular in our society are: * You are the product of biological chance. You evolved by chance from the apes, and you are simply a higher form of animal. * You are what you do. Your identity is based on your performance * You are what people think you are. You are what you are labelled to be. Are any of these answers valid? In short, no! For us who are followers of Jesus, it is our baptism which defines who we are. When we were baptised, God adopted us as His children, and gave us the pardon and the forgiveness that Jesus won for us on the cross. It is this which defines who I am, not whether I have a good job or whether I am married or whether people think that I m a nice person. I am God s child and it is this that defines who I am. Bring and share lunch How can you help and have fun in 2019? Have you thought about joining our mid week groups? We are about to get busy in 2019 Wednesday we have Playgroup and our new group Grace over lunch is about to start! It s a group where we learn a little (things like cooking or cake decorating or flower arranging etc) read a little the paper or other books share over a simple devotion all over our lunch! Would you like to come or be a part of the core group to keep this group going? Can you help the conversation, or share some cooking or a craft?please speak with Barbara or come to Coffee and Chat over the next couple of weeks so we can talk about it Thursday, is Mainly Music we are looking for people to help prepare our morning tea and talk to people if you can help please see me Friday our Learning continues this term we are running the Alpha Parenting Children course as well as an Education morning as part of it there will also be English classes after all of this there is Coffee and Chat where we all meet over coffee could you help look after the children while people learn? or could you simply come to Coffee time and have a conversation with someone? And don t forget, there is also English class on Saturday So, what do you do? Why not along to Coffee and Chat over the next couple of weeks.. it s a great opportunity to meet and learn about what happens here! Look in today s Sunday Paper for the flyers!
