2 A Message From Pastor Milton When God s people returned to Jerusalem after seventy years of exile in Babylon, they were met by disheartening and threatening conditions. The prophet Isaiah reminds the returning Jews of God s past saving hand in the exodus. He also reminds the people of God s ongoing protecting grace even as they face their current circumstances. As we continue to celebrate Christmas, as we begin this New Year: Let us remember the gracious deeds of the Lord. Let us remember and rejoice that we are God s people. Let us remember God s saving presence in Jesus. Let us remember that Jesus is our saviour, redeemer, deliverer and preserver. Let us remember that all this is possible because of his goodness, mercy, faithfulness and love and pity toward us his people. I pray that God will be with you as you begin this New Year. St John s Volunteer Opportunity We have a vacancy for a team of 2 people to serve on the weekly cleaning roster. This will take approximately 1 hour on a Saturday or late in the week. 4 Our Partnership with Lutheran Bethlehem Church, Myanmar Thank you to all those who have given in any way towards this ongoing partnership with Lutheran Bethlehem Church, Myanmar. To date we have raised $3,438 of our $5,000 goal. As this partnership is ongoing we encourage you to continue to give as you feel led even past the Advent/Christmas season. Just place your donation in an envelope clearly marker Myanmar Partnership into the offering bowl on any Sunday, or into the locked letterbox at 32 Roderick Street, Ipswich. Asia Focus & LCA Mission International You may read in the latest issue of Fire by Asia Focus that they also are doing mission work in Myanmar. Please note that our missional church partnership is with one of the Lutheran churches in Myanmar that are not supported by Asia Focus, (Lutheran Bethlehem Church) and our partnership is in no way affiliated with Asia Focus or the work they do. Our partnership is run through International Mission, a department of the Lutheran Church of Australia to ensure accountability to the wider church. The position is for 12 hours per week for someone to lead and co-ordinate an expanding ministry to children, youth and families so that they might know Christ and make Christ known. 6 Prayer Corner Church Prayer Time A time of prayer is held at Bethany every Sunday at 8.30am. Any and all are welcome to join in with these prayer times.
