2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE -John Keil I am pleased to announce that the Call Committee has recommended a pastoral candidate to the Congregation Council, and the Congregation Council has approved that recommendation. We are now working internally to prepare for negotiations with the candidate, and are coordinating with the Synod administration to schedule a Date of Call and Special Congregational Meeting. This process will include an opportunity for members of the congregation to meet the candidate, and to hear the candidate preach, before voting on whether to present the candidate with a Letter of Call. We are grateful to Sue Orts and the rest of the Call Committee for their continued leadership on this important task. Thank you as well to everyone who helped to make Easter Week a rich and compelling experience, and to Pastor Laurie Anderson for leading us in worship in March and April. I am coordinating with supply pastors to arrange coverage of Sunday worship so we have no interruptions in pastoral care before the installation of our next pastor. I have encouraged members and friends of Our Saviour Lutheran Church to consider opportunities for service within the congregation by assisting at worship, contributing to hospitality, and serving on committees. Many people have expressed interest in supporting and serving refugee families looking to start a new life in our area. Frya Barnes and Karen Kuchnicki attended a meeting in late March of a Croton Interfaith Women s Empowerment group that has been working on this; they have asked me to report that although plans to recruit and settle a refugee family from the Middle East are still in early stages, the group has learned of a family from Venezuela already in our area that needs similar and much more immediate help; the group has decided to begin its efforts there. If you have questions about this project or would like to become involved, please speak with Frya or Karen. 3 CHRISTIAN CRAFTERS Busy, busy hands. We are making quilts for Lutheran World Relief. The Word In Season daily devotion booklet stated on April 3, "How will your hands make joy today? After all, this is the day the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Every Tuesday morning at 10 am is an opportunity for you to experience the joy from your helping hands. Also, donations of cotton fabric, and old blankets to be used as liners are always welcome. Please be sure to join us on Sunday May 13. During our worship service as Rev. McKay will be blessing our quilts, health kits and school kits prior to sending them off to Lutheran World Relief for distribution to the needy around the world. NEWS FROM THE FINCIAL SECRETARIES John and Karen Magerlein We have reached the end of the third quarter of our fiscal year and are pleased to report that contributions have increased substantially compared to recent years. Through March 31, we have received contributions for current expenses and benevolence of $123,000. We project a total of about $155,000 for the entire fiscal year if contributions continue at the current rate. Based on this information, the Finance Committee has reported to the Call Committee that we should now be in a financial position to support a new pastor. We are grateful for the increased contributions by so many of our members to bring us to this point. HOSPITALITY Sincere thanks to all of you that have hosted coffee hour this year. Please check the link table for the new Hospitality Sign-Up sheet for the period of July 1 through December 30, As before we ask our volunteers to sign up for 2 Sundays in each half year period if you are able to. Our Saviour members look forward to this period after our Sunday service for fellowship with each other. Any questions please speak to Lois Leonard. Hello Friends! SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS I'm sad to say that we are nearing the end of our Sunday School season. Our last day will be June 3rd, but that means we still have 4 more Sunday's! We still have stories to read and discuss, and we will be singing and dancing each Sunday until the last day, and we will be learning a song to sing for everybody in church. 4 ROLLING RIVER RAMPAGE VBS Mark Your Calendars: August 20-24, 2018 Hosted at Asbury United Methodist Church and Sponsored by Croton churches: Our Saviour Lutheran, St. Augustine's Episcopal, and Holy Name of Mary Roman Catholic. A VBS Coordinator for each church is needed. If you are interested to be the Our Saviour Coordinator, speak to Melanie. $30 FOR 1 CHILD * $40 FOR 2 CHILDREN * $45 MAX PER FAMILY JR. COUNSELORS 12 YEARS AND OLDER ARE FREE Parent Volunteers are needed to lead sessions or to set up during the week before camp. So keep those dates open this Summer. As soon as the Registration Forms are available, we will have them on the link 500 CHICKS! Dear Our Saviour Congregation, We thank you for helping us buy animals that will help make someones life better. You have made us feel important by acting generously for a cause that we feel is important. You have helped us raise over $500 for a farmer.

5 WELCOME TO OUR NEW SEXTON Hi, my name is Mary Bernal. I have been a Croton resident for 51 years. I have worked at the Croton Free Library for 32 years and the Warner Library for 22 years. I am looking forward to working for your congregation as your new sexton. Since I am new and learning my way around please feel free to put a note in my mailbox or me at mbernal@wlsmail.org with any building concerns. THANK YOU 1. A big thank-you to Bob Riekert and Mickey Sevilla for washing the outside of most of the windows in the Link and Parish Hall, including the screens. It is well appreciated. 2. We are about to send the Christian Crafter s Quilts, as well as our Health Kits, School Kits and Layettes to Lutheran World Relief. 3. On May 20th we will once again be holding our Writing of Letters to our representatives in Congress during Coffee Hour. 4. On Sunday June 3, Croton will celebrate the annual Summerfest. We hope our members will participate in this event. More to come. BOTTLE FUND As I was browsing through Craigs List the other day, I came upon an add asking for donations of bottles and cans to fund a college tuition. I was impressed by the ambition of this young person's project, so I responded. But it takes a community. I am asking you to bring your empties to church Sunday mornings and I will collect them (every Sunday!) Imagine the encouragement this young adult is going to have when he knows a community is backing him up at this time in his life? Let's do it!! For more info see Jen Stieglitz. Our Friends at LWR sends thanks for our gift of $300 in March. With our support LWR has been working inside Syria helping to repair and renovate bakeries in Aleppo. These bakeries provides affordable daily bread to over 80,00 people in their daily struggle to survive. This is just one example of how our help alleviates suffering around the world.
