Volunteers served 478 people. The profit was $3028 which will be shared equally between the 8th grade spring trip and the new scholarship fund for students attending Father McGivney Catholic High School. Thanks to all who made the dinner a success!

3 From the Desk Of Fr. John Free Yard Sale is quickly becoming a tradition here at SSPP. Simply sharing with others good things that they may really need no questions asked. It is an exercise in real hospitality in a spirit of gratitude and love. Thank you to all who helped organize, sort, serve and give, so others may have what they need! The stories of those who lost their lives or were injured in the horrific and senseless attack in Las Vegas have been so deeply personal and heart wrenching. Six hundred families plus all who helped have been forever changed. We continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers. The recent hurricanes have taken a great toll on everyone. The islands were hit so brutally and left with almost nothing. So many have offered help praise God! We have a special collection through Catholic Charities USA to minister and offer assistance. Please be as generous as you can. Times can be tough. They can also ratchet up fear and anxiety. The political rhetoric makes everyone wonder if we face a nuclear war and unmentionable loss of life. The Las Vegas shooting took the lives of so many and changed so many families forever. The wounded, the first responders, the hospital workers the whole community will never be the same. Then the hurricanes that destroyed everything homes, power, water, food! But in the midst of it all we hear the call from St. Paul Brothers and sisters: Have no anxiety at all He is not being unrealistic but moving us back to that trusting relationship with Christ even in the midst of so much turmoil. He urges us But in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Remember Have no anxiety at all. It brings us back to our roots Christ Jesus! Wedding banquets are usually joyful celebrations. They are times of rejoicing at the beginning of a new family joining two families into one through their children who now become one. The parents are usually very proud and happy to welcome family and friends to help celebrate. Today we hear in the parable of Jesus how the King sends out the invitations to a wedding banquet for his son and then we hear the reactions of the invited guests to that invitation. The invited guests began to give rather lame excuses and refused the invitation did they think themselves above the invitation and above the king and so insult him in this way? Other messengers were sent and they were treated with outlandish cruelty again an unforgiveable insult and humiliation of the king. Now the king goes to extremes and reaches out to do the unthinkable. Far below the cultural elite and never to share table together the King says Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find. Wow! They then gathered All they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests. We sing the hymn Gather us in the lost and forsaken the blind and the lame the rich and the haughty the proud and the strong that is what the Eucharist is all about that is what Church is! The question remains not now so focused on the story, but the implications for us today. Will we respond to the invitation and undergo the change and transformation necessary to truly be disciples as we continue to sing Give us a heart so meek and so lowly give us to drink the wine of compassion nourish us well, and teach us to fashion lives that are holy and hearts that are true. God s great love and mercy are here for us now we need to take the next step. Help Hurricane Maria and Mexico Earthquake Victims The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has requested that a special collection be held for the victims of Hurricane Maria in the Caribbean and the Mexico Earthquakes. Your donations will support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities and Catholic Relief Services. Please place your donations in the second collection. If you are writing a check, make it payable to Ss. Peter and Paul Church, as all donations will be gathered and sent to the Diocese for distribution to Catholic Charities and Catholic Relief Services. 7 Annual Catholic Services Appeal: Family and Youth Services The Annual Catholic Services Appeal (ACSA) theme Go Therefore and Make Disciples focuses on how we can all work together to care for the Church s people by sharing God s gifts. Contributions to ACSA support ministries and services that reach across parish boundaries. Some very important services are beyond the resources of most parishes, including Ss. Peter and Paul. To meet those needs, the diocese offers programs and services which help our parish and the people of the diocese make our communities better places to live and work. This produces a wise use of resources by eliminating needless duplication. One important ministry area supported by ACSA is Family and Youth Services. These include: Marriage Preparation Separated & Divorced Ministry Marriage Tribunal Family Spirituality Chastity Education for Youth and Adults Mother/Daughter-Father/Son Programs Elizabeth Ministry Bereavement Ministry Natural Family Planning Youth Days Called and Sent Program for Youth Your gift to the Annual Catholic Services Appeal helps make these ministries and services possible.
