In for one; IN FOR ALL! ZIGGY S WISDOM: How can I determine if joining an activity, Ministry or event is the right thing for me to do at this time )? ZIGGY S Happy Fathers Day God our Father, We give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old. We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; May they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice. We pray for Fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; May they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow. We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice. We remember fathers, grandfather, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen THOUGHTS: First ask a few questions such as do I have the time to spare? Does this take away from my current duties and relationships? Is this something that will help others, or is this all about me? Finally...What would Jesus do? Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 26, 2016 FATHER S DAY RECEPTION All are invited to Morris Hall after the 10:30 Mass (11:35) TODAY for some tasty foods and friendship. We honor all Dads for their important role they play in all phases of family life. Bring your Dad and family, Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Richard Mark and Mr. Kent Gardner and Ms. Carol Gardner on the wedding of their children Miss. Megan Mark & Mr. Brady Gardner Thank You for Your Generosity! We reached our goal for the Annual Catholic Services Appeal. We raised $94,888.00, $6, over the goal of $88, That means that $6, is returned to Ss. Peter and Paul for our operating expenses. Your generosity makes possible the many services we receive from the Diocese and will help our parish activities also! The Annual Catholic Services Appeal supports more than 90 programs and services that touch the lives of many people. The funding from the appeal for these programs is a real lifeline. Some services are beyond the resources of any one parish. It would be impossible for an individual parish to duplicate the scope of services provided by the diocese. By having the diocese coordinate these activities and ministries, we eliminate duplication of services and save both time and money.

5 Reminder: Construction Start Will Bring Parking Challenges Construction activity for our new Gathering Space/Office/ Fellowship Hall begins June 6 with the demolition of the former parish office building. This also means that construction activity will limit use of the south parking lot. Alternative parking areas include the two municipal lots on Clay Street (about 35 parking spots). In addition, Home Federal has generously allowed us to use its lot on Clay (12 parking spots). The recycle bins in the Manning Hall lot have been moved near the building, which will free up 10 parking spots. As a courtesy to those who have difficulty walking farther distances, we are asking parishioners who are more able to not park on Johnson Street (about 25 spaces). This is voluntary but will go a long way in reducing the inconvenience for those who are not as mobile. Other considerations during construction: There will be no access to the church from the south doors. The school entrance will be modified and drop off and pick procedures will change. The school will be communicating details with parents. There will be the usual construction annoyances like noise and dust. 6 RCIA Combined Rite of Acceptance and Welcome At the 8:00AM Mass today, we are celebrating a combined Rite of Acceptance and Welcome for 2 unbaptized Catechumens, and 6 already baptized Christians, as they continue their journey to full participation in the Catholic Church. This combined Rite is a formal ritual, experienced at Mass, during which the unbaptized formally accept the Gospel and receive God's blessing upon entering this new way of life, and those already baptized into the Christian faith are welcomed as they continue their journey into full communion with the Catholic Church. Stephanie Usery and James Benn joined us earlier this year in our Inquiry stage of the RCIA, and today will be formally accept into the continuing journey of faith formation that will prepare them to receive the Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic Church this coming Easter Vigil. Additionally we welcome: Jim, Janet and Sherri Fuhrman, Jeremy Eade, Elizabeth Steele, and Terry Wilson who have already been baptized into the Christian faith, and who have also been involved in the Inquiry aspect of the RCIA since early this year. They too will be continuing their journey, leading them to full communion with the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. s a Eucharistic community, we are called to welcome, to support, and to guide those who wish to learn about our Catholic Faith and are considering becoming Catholic. We are called to help others to find and to follow Christ. Please continue to pray for them and their sponsors!

8 June 11-12, 2016 Year of Mercy Learn, Experience, Share Ministries of Mercy Parish Ministries Extend Activities to Celebrate Year of Mercy We continue to look at our parish ministries which are focusing on the Works of Mercy and enhancing their ongoing activities as part of the Year of Mercy. We will feature their stories throughout the year. Faith in Action: Caring Outreach A number of parishioners serve the aged and disabled in our community by volunteering for Faith in Action (FIA). They join members of about 15 local churches who serve adults 60 and over and those disabled in Collinsville, Caseyville, Maryville and State Park. Services offered include volunteer caregivers who provide transportation, shopping, companionship, respite for family, minor home repairs and seasonal yard maintenance. Faith in Action also provides a service called Answers on Aging which provides enrollment information on senior health insurance programs, Medicare Part D and other benefits. The Elder Connection provides opportunities for social events. Faith in Action is a very rewarding volunteer activity, says Pat Grant- Schapp, one of our parish volunteers. Our care receivers are very grateful that we enable them to stay in their homes because of the services we provide. The group is always looking for volunteers. All that is required is a short orientation, a background check, a caring heart and a small amount of time weekly, monthly or less frequently. According to Pat, it is very flexible. You can pick the type of service you want to provide and the number of Times you want to volunteer, she says. To volunteer or for more information contact Pat at or Beth Baker at FIA at The Spiritual Works of Mercy Counsel the Doubtful Instruct the Ignorant Admonish the Sinner Comfort the Afflicted Forgive Offenses Willingly Bear Wrongs Patiently Pray for the Living and the Dead The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the Christian tradition, appearing in the works of theologians and spiritual writers throughout history. Just as Jesus attended to the spiritual well-being of those he ministered to, these Spiritual Works of Mercy guide us to "help our neighbor in their spiritual needs." We may think that these are not things we can do, besides the praying. But they may be easier than you think. Counsel the Doubtful: you may feel drawn to talk to someone who appears sad or seems to be struggling. Comfort the Afflicted: you can console a friend, neighbor or co-worker who has suffered a loss of some kind. Forgive Offenses Willingly: maybe it s just the person who cut you off on the way to work. God wants us to be the embodiment of his mercy, love and healing. Photo: Pat Grant-Schapp

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 26, PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Lord Jesus, Fill the hearts and minds of your young people with the power of the Holy Spirit, so that with courage and generosity they might answer your call to serve the church in the priesthood and religious life. Give parents the faith, love and spirit of sacrifice which will inspire them to rejoice when a child of theirs is called to a church vocation. May the intercession of the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph, your Holy Family, help us to pray: Let not my will, but yours be done. Amen

10 Growing as Disciples Through Gratitude This season we focus on our growing as disciples through gratitude to God for all He has given us and sharing that with others. Disciples have generous hearts that lead them to share what they have -- time, talent and treasure -- which leads to generous service of God and others. This weekend we ask you to make your annual Offertory Gift pledge to God by walking the card to the altar as a sign of your commitment to discipleship. Making our Offertory gift is a powerful moment as we are putting what God has given us back into service for Him. An Offertory gift card was mailed to your home and there are some in the pews. We are asking you to return it at Mass or by mail. No names are required. This is between you and God. But we ask you to return the card to help us know how much you are planning to give so that we can plan God s Work and hopefully do more of it! What do you want to give to accomplish God s work here in our parish, our community and the world? As with any spiritual undertaking, we need to ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit to help us see what God wants us to do. You and He decide what you want to give! Waiting for Christ in the Eucharist Our One Great Act of Fidelity June A Weekend Retreat for Everyone With Fr. Ron Rolheiser,OMI at King s House Retreat Center in Belleville, Il. For more information or to register call or go to KingsRetreatCenter.org As Christians we have never truly been faithful to the teachings of Jesus. We haven t forgiven our enemies. We haven t turned the other check We haven t lived out the deep challenges in the gospel. But we have been faithful in one great way we have kept the Eucharist going...and that will, in the end, save us. What is the meaning of the Eucharist? Why is it so central to our faith? How do we live out a spirituality of the Eucharist? CURSILLO Enrich Your Spirituality spend a weekend engaged with the Holy Spirit!
