3 Lent is moving on so quickly already past midway. We now prepare for Holy Week Holy Thursday Good Friday Holy Saturday and the Easter Vigil leading us into Easter Sunday. The six weeks seem long, and then the time passes and we are at the Great Mysteries and the Festivities of Christ s victory. We realize that the time has been for the preparation of those who look forward to baptism and full communion with the Church. But, it has also been our time of renewal repentance and recommitment. As we arrive at Easter, we will all be invited to make our profession of faith and renew our baptismal vows and promises. The time spent in prayer and listening to the word of God has attuned us to be more sensitive to the call of God s love and service to others. We have grown as committed and intentional disciples. May the Lord bless these final days in preparation so that we can celebrate with open minds and hearts, aware of the great gift we have received in Christ and His victory of sin and death. From the Desk Of Fr. John There is a saying You are known by the company you keep is it true all of the time? There were many complaints circulating around more than rumors outright criticisms and condemnations. They were all aimed at Jesus because of the company He was keeping tax collectors and sinners. Did that make Him one of them or was He reaching out to them as His Father had sent him to do? But, it is obvious that He was being judged for being open and accepting of them. They were even accusing Him of disregarding the Law though that was not really obvious. Jesus began His ministry with a visit to His hometown Nazareth. There He read from the Prophet Isaiah these words The spirit of the Lord is upon me, and He has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor, sight to the blind, freedom to prisoners, liberty to captives Jesus carried out this mission of reaching out and reconciling those estranged from God and gathering them into the fold again. Jesus parable of the Prodigal Son makes the point very clear the sinners are being welcomed and reconciled. Those who like the elder son of the story refuse to forgive or welcome are at odds with the Father who is merciful and forgiving. I used the famous painting of Rembrant The return of the prodigal son to illustrate the point of the depth of compassion and love of the Father for both of his sons wanting them both to be reconciled with him and each other. We are called to be ambassabors for Christreconciliation for and to each other and our world. The mercy of God welcomes us now we are to live and share it generously. We know what a trap means. It is setting someone up to be caught. The law does not look kindly upon such activity. But we do have security cameras and all that goes with that in order to protect people and to catch those who are performing illegal actions against persons or their property. The scene in the Gospel for today is a set up. An unhappy husband and maybe more than unhappy sets the scene to catch his wife in a sexual crime. The story we have in John s Gospel sounds more like it comes from the Lukan tradition but it does have its impact on all of us. There is a woman who is caught in the act of adultery infidelity to her husband. Once she is caught in the act, she is brought before Jesus for judgement. That is a very serious charge and has huge consequences death by stoning. Jesus recognizes the trap that is being set for Him and the total insensitivity of those accusing her she is a pawn in this trap and not a person to be respected and helped. Jesus uses the time and the situation to help the accusers to realize that they have no room to condemn her nor does Jesus condemn her Go and sin no more!

Help the Catholic Home Missions Appeal Next weekend, you have the opportunity to assist the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. Right now, over 40% of dioceses in the United States are considered home mission territory because they are unable to fund the essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support of this appeal helps ease the struggle of these dioceses. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal. THANK YOU! Many thanks to all supporters of our Spring ABL / St. Vincent de Paul Fundraiser. You generously donated $2,838! The list of supporters of the fundraiser was an insert in the March 24 bulletin. Donations received were to be split between St. Vincent De Paul Society and the ABL Pregnancy Center. It was patterned after the former Pro-Life Signature Page Ad Campaign that had run in the Belleville News Democrat in years past, which was dropped as ad costs had become prohibitive. Supporters names and memorials to loved ones were to have been accompanied by the form to be published. The published list was NOT intended to recognize all past donors to the ABL or St. Vincent De Paul, just those who participated in this specific campaign. We apologize for any confusion. Save the Dates! July 6-12 For more information, contact Kimberly Zagorski x103
