Nearly half of our country is considered home mission territory. 2 MUSIC MINISTRY NEWS Our adult choir will be singing for both of our parish Confirmation liturgies this Wednesday April 25 th! Our children s choir is practicing for 1 st Holy Communions on Saturday May 5 th as well as our parish May Crowning on Sunday May 6 th. ADULT CHOIR Our parish adult choir enhances our liturgies each Sunday from September through mid-june. The choir also sings for many special occasions during the year, such as: Christmas Eve Mass, Holy Week, Confirmation, and our Mass of Remembrance in November! The choir also provides two beautiful concerts for the parish, one during Advent and the other during Lent. We are always looking for new people to join our very dedicated group! We welcome all adults (and high school students) to be part of our choir. The adult choir sings weekly at the 9:00 am mass (And once a month at the 10:45 am mass). We practice each Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:00 Pm in the church. Our next rehearsal will be on Wednesday May 2 nd and we sing again next Sunday at the 9:00 AM mass. CHILDREN S CHOIR Our parish children s choir is made of students from our parish from grades two and up. The choir sings for our parish Christmas Pageant and 4:00 pm mass on Christmas Eve, as well as the 9:00 am mass on Easter Sunday. We practice on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the church. We sing twice a month at either the 9:00 or 10:45 am mass. Our next rehearsal will be on Tuesday May 1st and we sing again on Sunday May 6th at the 9:00 am mass as well as the Parish My Crowning following 9:00 AM Mass. FOLK GROUP Our Parish Folk Group enhances the 12:15 liturgy each week. The Folk Group is under the direction of Ms. Jennie Esposito. Rehearsals are held weekly at 11:15 Am in the conference room adjacent to the church gathering area. Jennie is always looking for more singers as well as instrumentalists to join with the Folk Group! TEENAGE/COLLEGE GROUP This group of young adults in the parish generally enhances the 12:15 PM mass on the fourth Sunday of each month. Rehearsal is held at 11:15 am in the conference room. If you sing or play an instrument, then this group is for you. Please speak to Jennie Esposito after 12:15 pm for more information on both groups!! St. John Vianney School News God bless our eighth grade students as they receive the sacrament of Confirmation this week. Just a reminder that the eighth grade students will be dismissed at 12:15 PM on Wednesday, April 25, so they have time to prepare for their special day. Students may now wear their summer uniforms, weather permitting. If the forecast for the day is 50 degrees or below, please do not send your child to school in their shorts as they may be cold and uncomfortable. Now is a good time to check the length of your child s shorts and skorts. They should come to the top of your child s knees if not, they should be replaced. Please refer to the Handbook/Calendar for details regarding the summer uniform. Now that the weather is getting nicer, we have a few reminders for everyone. First of all, no pets are permitted on the school grounds at any time. Also, we would ask that you do not linger outside the building after dismissal. The playground area is used by aftercare. Children should not be running on the church steps or around the area in front of the church. We appreciate everyone s cooperation in these matters. Space is available for all grade levels for the school year. A sincere thank you to all those who participated in the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl project as part of their Lenten journey. We were able to contribute $3, to help our companions in our global human family. I am the good shepherd...and I lay down my life for the sheep and they will heed my voice. Usually, the answer is in quiet whispers, so take time every day, in silence, to actively listen for His response.

Reilly Peter filled with the Holy Spirit said: Leaders of the people and elders: If we are being examined today about a good deed done to a cripple, namely, by what means he was saved, then all of you and all the people of Israel should know that it was done in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarean whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead; in His name this man stands today before you healed There is no salvation through anyone else. When people inquire where they should begin reading the bible, I suggest a great place is in the Acts of the Apostles, and in particular the kerygmatic sermons of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. They are clear and concise statements about Jesus, His passion and resurrection, and through the Spirit are the source of the enthusiasm as the two great preachers tell of their reason for preaching. It was not much earlier that Peter denied and Paul persecuted those who were curious and seeking. That is what we are about as we reflect on His Word Today and every day we are desirous of knowing and loving Jesus better, and as we do, we serve as His witness. The great sermons, the announcement or proclamation give meaning to our lives as disciples and are the call to others to come to Jesus.

5 Urge NJ Assembly to Oppose Assisted Suicide Bill On Monday, March 12, the Assembly Judiciary Committee released the Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act (A1504). The bill will now be voted on by the General Assembly. The bill would allow physicians to prescribe drugs to end the lives of terminally ill individuals considered to have six months to live. The facts are clear - in California, in Vermont and in Oregon - states that have passed assisted suicide bills - insurance companies have denied individuals expensive healthcare coverage but offered them low cost drugs to end their life. In an era of cost control and managed care, patients with lingering illnesses may be branded as a financial liability for the insurance company, and decisions to encourage death could be driven by reducing costs.
