2 SUMMER SPLASH 50/50 RAFFLE Don t forget to return your filled out stubs and payment to the Rectory. Last year s winner went home with $19, This year it could be YOU!! Make Giving Part of Your Summer Plan The month of May means summer is right around the corner after plenty of chilly weather and rain. Flowers are blooming and trees are budding. And Christian stewards are reminding themselves that stewardship continues as we head into the days of vacation, barbecues, summer reading lists, family reunions and trips to the beach. We should not forget our parish when we go away on vacation. Make sure to increase your gifts to make up for those weekend Masses you will not attend at your home parish. THANK YOU Dear Parishioners of St. John Vianney, I am Deacon Enock Berluche who preached the mission appeal for Haiti in your parish about 1 month ago. The members of Source de Vie and I would like to express our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation to the mission appeal for Haiti. May God bless you abundantly and give you a hundredfold return for your generous contributions. God bless you all, Deacon Enock These days there is a lot of poverty in the world, and that's a scandal when we have so many riches and resources to give to everyone. We all have to think about how we can become a little poorer. - Pope Francis St. John Vianney School News The last day of school for eighth grade students is Friday, June 5. 3 YOUTH MINISTRY Hey Teens!! I look forward to spending time with you as we raise funds for the Appalachia service project on June 6th and 7th. All are invited to support our speakers and assist with collections at both parishes!! Are you interested in attending Appalachia but forgot to turn in your permission slip? Do you want to work the soda tent at the fair but missed sign up at the last meeting? No problem, Simply contact John Cook at jcook@sjvs.net and I will be in contact with you. Update...Our last meeting of the year is scheduled for Sunday June 14th from7:00pm to 8:30pm in Trailer D. APPALACHIA MISSION TRIP SERVICE PROJECT 2015 Greetings and Blessings! Let me begin by thanking you for your years of support for our Appalachia service project. We are now beginning the fundraising phase of our project. Students will be briefly speaking after the masses on the weekend of June 6 & 7 and you are invited to bring a thoughtful contribution at that time. Some donors prefer to send their donation directly to the office, and you may do so by making your check payable to St. John Vianney Youth Ministry and mailing it C/O John Cook to St. John Vianney Church 420 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ Once again our goal is to raise twenty thousand dollars to cover the cost of transportation, materials, food, housing, and more. We have an eager group of volunteers ready to put their catholic values into action and serve as Jesus has called us to serve. I don't have to tell you that many of our participants have life changing experiences and generate powerful college entrance essays based on the experience. These students choose to reject the anti-christian culture of their peers and give up a week of summer vacation, jobs, summer classes, and more to participate in this powerful experience. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making these experiences a reality in the past, and for your thought filled contribution for the 2015 year. Let me end by stating that the faith is strong in our youth, and we need to cultivate that spark by providing powerful immersion experiences and lived Catholic community opportunities for them to have the confidence to live Christ's message outside our walls. These experiences are vitally important. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, donations, and for assisting to create the strong Catholic families of tomorrow. PRO LIFE Meetings start up again in September. Maternity donations can be dropped in the crib in the foyer of the church. Both new and gently used items are accepted. Please continue to remember the children and families who are helped with your donations. If you have larger items, please call Carolyn at to arrange for pickup. Thank you for your continued generosity. A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly The Most Holy Trinity Then Jesus approached and said to them, All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always until the end of the ages. Once again we ascend a mountain, the place where God so often revealed Himself. Jesus approached the eleven, and He approaches me as well. He gave them a commission, and He speaks that same message to me as I read a too- familiar text. Because it is so well known we might quickly read and move on. But wait a minute. The apostles were sent to make disciples, missionary disciples in the words of Pope Francis. This is accomplished through the sacraments, with baptism leading the way. A teaching accompanies the mission, to love God above all things and neighbor as ourselves, not just to follow what I think is acceptable and not uncomfortable. The final element of the commissioning experience is the assurance of the ongoing and abiding presence of the Lord to direct and sustain us. When the Spirit of Pentecost transformed them, the mission began, and continues through me today. All of us are called and sent as missionary disciples.
