2 YOUTH MINISTRY This Sunday is the Palisade Climb adventure. Drivers and teens will meet in the parking lot at 8:30am and we will go from there. Women s Spirituality Retreat March Marianist Family Retreat Center Cape May Point, NJ Join with other women in a creative exploration of your own story and stories of women in faith. If your child will be returning to St. John Vianney for the school year, please complete and return all forms to school by Feb. 28. We must have the forms back in order to get the textbook and busing forms to the proper districts by their deadlines. If you have any questions, please call the school office. If your child will not be returning to St. John s in September, please notify the office. We are currently registering all grade levels of students for the school year. You can obtain more information by calling the school office at CATHOLIC SCHOOL TUITION ASSISTANCE ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS OPEN Families interested in applying for tuition assistance to attend an eligible Diocese of Metuchen Catholic elementary or high school may do so beginning January 30, The application process is online through FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment. Online applications must be completed (including supporting documentation) by no later than Friday, March 31, Applications are available in English and Spanish. Families that need assistance completing the online application, or need access to the technology to apply, may register for one of the five Application Workshops, which will be held in four locations within the Diocese in February and March by going to and following the Workshops link.

3 MUSIC MINISTRY NEWS Adult Choir We are now practicing music for the upcoming Lenten season!! The choir will be singing on Sunday, March 5 th at the 10:45 mass as we welcome Bishop Checchio to our parish! We are always looking for new people to join with our very dedicated group!! We welcome all adults (And high school students) to be part of our choir! We practice each Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:00 Pm in the church. Our next rehearsal will be on Wednesday February 22 nd. Children s Choir Our children s choir will also be singing on Sunday March 5 th at the 10:45 mass as we welcome Bishop Checchio to SJV! We practice on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the church. We sing twice a month at either the 9:00 or 10:45 am mass! All students from grade 2 and up are welcome to join our group!! Our next rehearsal will be on Tuesday February 28 th. Folk Group Our Parish Folk Group enhances the 12:15 liturgy each week. The Folk Group is under the direction of Ms. Jennie Esposito. Rehearsals are held weekly at 11:15 Am in the conference room adjacent to the church gathering area. Jennie is always looking for more singers as well as instrumentalists to join with the Folk Group! Teenage/College Group This group of young adults in the parish generally enhances the 12:15 Pm mass on the fourth Sunday of each month. Rehearsal is held at 11:15 am in the conference room. If you sing or play an instrument, then this group is for you!! Please speak to Jennie Esposito after 12:15 pm for more information on both groups!! But, remember, the foundation of stewardship is prayer. When we are in close communication with God, it opens our heart and it turns our attention away from me and moves it towards God and others. It allows us to have a little more empathy for our enemy. When we pray for others, even our enemies, maybe it softens their hearts as well. PRO LIFE The February meeting has been cancelled. Next Pro-life meeting is Tuesday, March 28 at 7pm in the lower church meeting room. Maternity donations can be dropped in the crib in the foyer of the church. Both new (especially diapers size 3 to 6) and gently used items are accepted. Please continue to remember the children and families who are helped with your donations. If you have larger items, please call Carolyn at to arrange for pickup. Thank you for your continued generosity. HAVE A HEART FOR THE UNBORN. February is the month of our Pro-Life HEART campaign. Your donation will be acknowledged on our Bulletin Board of Hearts and will go directly to a local pregnancy center, whose purpose is to save the unborn, care for the mom and support the family with love, prayer and material needs. Cardinals Tobin and O Malley and Grandson of Football Legend to Speak at Annual Catholic Men s Conference The ninth annual Conference, a daylong event for Catholic men to learn, experience fellowship, and renew and strengthen their Catholic faith, will be held on Saturday, March 4, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on the campus of Seton Hall University, South Orange. The Conference theme is "Be Not Afraid Becoming Missionary Disciples." 5 New Jersey s Adoption Law has changed Beginning January 1, 2017, adoptees and certain relatives will be able to obtain a copy of their original birth certificate without a court order. The birth certificate will include the names of the birth parents who placed children for adoption unless a birth parent requests their name be omitted. Birth parents who wish to preserve their privacy must submit a Redaction Request Form to the New Jersey Department of Health no later than December 31, The Redaction Request Form can be obtained by calling , ext. 582 or downloading it at The Catholic Church has always supported reunions between adoptees and birth parents, if such reunions were by mutual consent. The Church continues to do so through their Catholic Charities agencies. If you know individuals that could be effected by the changes to New Jersey Adoption law, please help alert them.
