Immediately following the Mass a light lunch will be served in the Cafeteria. We realize that many of those who died this past year were buried from other parishes. We would like to include those persons in our prayer remembrance along with those who were buried from St. John Vianney parish. If one of your family members died this past year, and you would like that person to be remembered during the Mass on November 4th, please call the Rectory ( ) no later than Monday, October 30th.. We will ask you to provide the following information: name of the deceased family member; date of death; and number of persons who plan to come to the Mass and light lunch. 2 An information session on Annulments will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 and Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in Old Bridge on Thursday, November 9, Both identical presentations will begin at 7:00 PM. These identical presentations are intended for those who have experienced the pain and anguish of a divorce and who wish to learn more about the Annulment process and have common myths dispelled. NEW SOCIAL CONCERNS MINISTRY Helping those in need in our community Our first project is to provide Baby Bundles to local pregnancy centers. We have already made a delivery to Life Choices in Metuchen. For future Baby Bundles, we are requesting donations of baby powder, size 1 diapers, baby shampoo and lotion, individual packs of wipes and baby oil. Please mark all donations Baby Bundles and put in the crib in the foyer of the church. Thank you! For further information, please call Karla Resetar at Designer Bag Bingo St. John Vianney HSA is hosting our annual Designer Bag Bingo on Sunday, Nov. 12. Doors will open at 1:00 PM, and we will begin calling Bingo at 2:15 PM. Invite your family and friends (18 years of age and older) for an enjoyable afternoon of fun and a chance to win beautiful designer bags and raffles. Tickets are $25. For more information please call Danielle Dudas at or ddudas918@aol.com. St. John Vianney School News Congratulations to our students who were inducted into the Student Council last week. Thank you to Mayor McCormac for coming and being a part of this special event! Tuesday, October 31, is Halloween. We will have a 12:15 PM dismissal. There will be no aftercare. All students may come to school dressed in their costumes. Please do not send children to school with guns, knives, swords, or other items which could cause harm or could be lost. The Halloween parade will begin at 9:30 AM in the main parking lot. Grades PreK-5 will participate in the parade, and Grades 6-8 will have their Halloween dance in the gym. Parents are asked to remain behind the cones while the parade is taking place. After the parade the students will return to their classrooms for their parties. Only those parents who received their pumpkins may enter the building to help with the parties. Many of our students will be taking part in our Trunk or Treat on Halloween. This will take place in our parking lot beginning at 1:15 PM. Only those people who signed up in advance and have received parking stickers and wristbands will be allowed to participate. The parking lot will be closed to traffic beginning at 1 PM. Wednesday, November 1, is All Saint s Day. The children will attend Mass at 9:30 AM. Daylight Savings Time ends next weekend. Please be sure to turn your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 5. St. John Vianney Pre-School News Children who attend Pre-School on Monday will have their Halloween celebration on Monday, October 30. They should come to school in their Halloween costume. They will parade to the rectory and main school buildings and will have their parties on their return to the Pre-School. Children who attend on Tuesday will join the main school students and parade to the rectory and around the parking lot at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, October 31. Only those parents who are scheduled as volunteers to assist with Halloween may come into the Pre-School after the parades for the parties. When dressing your child for Halloween, please do not give them swords, guns, knives, or any other objects that could cause injury. No masks should be worn with their costumes. There will be a 12:00 noon dismissal on October 31. There will be no aftercare.

3 Music Ministry News SAINT VINCENT de PAUL We wish to thank our high school cantors who have been doing a great job leading the singing at some of our weekend liturgies for the past few months!! Our thanks go out to: Taylor Eccles, Alyson Fakhry, and Abby Varker!! Adult Choir Our parish adult choir enhances our liturgies each Sunday from September through mid-june. The choir also sings for many special occasions during the year, such as: Midnight Mass, Holy Week, Confirmation, and our Mass of Remembrance in November!! The choir also provides two beautiful concerts for the parish, one during Advent and the other during Lent. We are always looking for new people to join with our very dedicated group!! We welcome all adults (And high school students) to be part of our choir! The adult choir sings weekly at the 9:00 am mass (And once a month at the 10:45 am mass). We practice each Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:00 Pm in the church. Our next rehearsal will be on Wednesday November 8 th. We will sing next next Saturday November 4 th at the parish Mass of Remembrance as well as Sunday November 5 th at the 9:00 AM Mass. Children s Choir Our parish children s choir is made of students from our parish from grades two and up!! The children in the group love coming together to sing for Sunday liturgies as well as special events during the year. The choir sings for our parish Christmas Pageant and 4:00 pm mass on Christmas Eve, as well as the 9:00 am mass on Easter Sunday!! We practice on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the church. We sing twice a month at either the 9:00 or 10:45 am mass! Our next rehearsal will be on Tuesday November 7 th!! We sing again on Sunday November 12 th at the 9:00 am mass. We are also hoting the parish breakfast next month! So please join us in the school cafeteria for breakfast following 9:00AM Mass on November 12 th! Folk Group Our Parish Folk Group enhances the 12:15 liturgy each week. The Folk Group is under the direction of Ms. Jennie Esposito. Rehearsals are held weekly at 11:15 Am in the conference room adjacent to the church gathering area. Jennie is always looking for more singers as well as instrumentalists to join with the Folk Group! Teenage/College Group This group of young adults in the parish generally enhances the 12:15 Pm mass on the fourth Sunday of each month. Rehearsal is held at 11:15 am in the conference room. If you sing or play an instrument, then this group is for you!! Please speak to Jennie Esposito after 12:15 pm for more information on both groups!! Thank you for your on-going support and generosity. Thank you to everyone who helped make our "Hygiene kit" campaign for the Hurricane survivors a Great Success! On October 10th we collected and shipped 710lbs of hygiene supplies, which translates into >280 individual kits for men, women and children. Additionally, numerous other items included: stuffed animals, crayons, coloring books, combs, tooth paste, tooth brushes, shaving cream and many other items. The SJV School Student Council collected $ Our heartfelt "THANKS" go out to all those individuals and family members that contributed to the success of our campaign. Special thanks to: Rev. For more information call Pam at In the wake of the recent hurricanes that devastated Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, Florida, Louisiana and Texas, and the deadly earthquakes in Mexico, Bishop Checchio has asked that the diocesan-wide Disaster Relief Collection, originally intended to close September 30, be extended to support the relief and recovery efforts in the affected communities. A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly Thus says the Lord: You shall not molest or oppress the alien, for you were once alien yourselves in the land of Egypt. You shall not wrong any widow or orphan. If ever you wrong them and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry If he cries out to me, I will hear him, for I am compassionate. From the earliest pages of the bible, concern for aliens, widows and orphans were a priority. In the Acts of the Apostles, the life of the first Christians, the same vulnerable persons were addressed, leading to the vocation of the first deacons. Today we seem to overlook the helplessness of refugees, those fleeing war, poverty and famine. How many persons have been forced to leave home, family in search of freedom and humane conditions. Unfortunately they seem only to be a statistic. People do not want to leave their land and their family to live in camps with oppressive heat, little food and unhealthy conditions. They are forced to do so fleeing cartels and gangs. In the United States years ago, they were called DP s, and displaced persons were looking for a welcome and harbor was given to them. As we read the book of Moses today, take a moment to consider the plight of those who are calling out to us. They are the very ones the Lord will listen to, and we are the ones called by Him to answer. DEBORAH HOSPITAL/COLONIA CHAPTER BUS TRIP Thursday, November 30 th A bus trip is being sponsored to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse/Dinner Theater for the annual festive Christmas Holiday show, then continuing on to Sands Casino in Pennsylvania.
