CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES COLLECTION Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me (Mt 25:40). Today, we are reminded that Jesus identified himself with our poorest brothers and sisters. The Catholic Relief Services Collection serves Jesus in the victims of human trafficking, in those who suffer from unjust laws, and in those who need pastoral care and humanitarian assistance across the globe. Through supporting today s collection, you help Jesus in disguise. Please be generous. SJV SENIOR MEETING Our next meeting is Wednesday, March 4 th at 2:30 PM. Bring your chips. It s Wine Bingo Time! SOCIAL JUSTICE MINISTRY The Social Justice Ministry is showing Portrait of a Radical: The Jesus Movement on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 6:30pm in the church. In this remarkable presentation three provocative theologians explore the truly radical, dynamic, and passionate message of Jesus. The film instills within the viewers a sense that they are experiencing some of the spirit of the Jesus Movement itself. A brief discussion will follow. All are encouraged to attend this viewing, an excellent opportunity to further your Lenten journey this year! St. John Vianney School News Congratulations to Mr. Eliezer Rosa, Jr., winner of Calendar Raffle #4! On Wednesday, March 4, at 7 PM the Home School Association will be hosting the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey s 15 Minute Child Break Program. This is a one-hour multi-media presentation regarding substance abuse prevention, as well as how to talk to children about drugs, signs of use and abuse to look for, current terminology, and trends of use. It is a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn how to prevent their children from abusing drugs and alcohol. Please plan to join us for this exceptional program. Terra Nova testing will begin this week and continue through next week. Please be sure your child gets enough rest and has a good breakfast before coming to school each day. Also, please be sure your child gets to school on time. Once testing has started, students cannot be allowed to enter the classroom. If you haven t already done so, please complete the re-registration forms which were sent home with your child and return them to school. They are due back by Friday, March 6, along with the registration fee. We must have the forms back in order to get the textbook and busing forms to the proper districts by March 13. We will begin taking new registrations the week of March 16. If your child will not be returning to SJV in September, please send a note to the office. We will be having an Open House on Saturday, March 7, from 10 AM to 12 noon in our Main School. Come meet our faculty and see our classrooms. Learn more about what St. John Vianney School has to offer your child. Openings are available for the school year. SJV Cheerleading News On Sunday, February 22nd, all three teams attended the Christ the King competition. Biddy took home Best Stunts and Varsity took home 1st place! JV held their heads high and will come back next weekend stronger...way to go ladies! Everyone performed so well and we are all so proud of you!!! On Saturday, February 28th, the JV and Varsity teams head to Ocean City, Maryland to compete in Reach the Beach Nationals!!! On Saturday, March 7th, Biddy and JV will head to the St. James competition and Varsity heads to the Golden Knights competition. Good luck to all the cheerleaders! The HSA Book Fair is raising funds this year for development and improvements to our school library. All SJV Parish families are invited to support the Scholastic Book Fair with Online Sales, available March 1-21, or by visiting our on-site fair on Tuesday, March 17, from 5:30-8:00 PM in the SJV Library. Pre-School News Our Pre-School will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, March 7, from 10 AM to 12 noon. We offer two, three, and five day programs for both three and four year olds. Come visit our classrooms and meet our faculty. We are still accepting registrations for the school year.

3 YOUTH MINISTRY Youth Group Living Stations of the Cross practice continues this Sunday March 1st from 6:45pm to 9:00 pm in the Church at St. Cecelia's. Are you on team for the spring retreat weekend? Don't forget team meetings begin this week! Did you miss the NCYC meeting and do you need copies of the diocesan and national paperwork? Copies are available in the office at any time along with our spring calendar! Can you Help our Teens? This November is the National Catholic Youth Conference, (NCYC) Our youth group along with Twenty three thousand catholic students from all fifty states will be attending. Our students are seeking donations to help lower the cost of this life changing conference. If you would like to help, simply make a check out to SJV youth ministry (in any amount), and mail it C/O John Cook, youth minister, to 420 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ All checks will be placed in an account to lower the general cost of the experience for everyone. Music Ministry News Adult Choir We are now practicing music for our parish Lenten music presentation to be held on Sunday March 15 th at 3:00pm!! This group is open to all adults as well as high school students!! The Adult Choir sings most Sundays at the 9:00 Am mass and occasionally at the 10:45 Am mass. Our next rehearsal will be on Wednesday March 4 th from 7:30 to 9:00 pm in the church. New members are always welcome and encouraged to attend! Children s Choir Our children s choir group will be hosting the parish monthly breakfast next Sunday March 8 th following the 9:00 am mass in the school cafeteria! The children s choir usually sings on the second Sunday of the month at the 9:00 am mass and the forth Sunday of the month at the 10:45 am mass. Our next rehearsal will be on Tuesday March 3 rd from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the church. We will sing next Sunday March 8 th at the 9:00 am mass! We welcome ALL children in the parish from second grade and up to join our group!!! Folk Group The folk group can be found playing and singing generally at 12:15 Pm mass each Sunday. Rehearsals are held on Sundays at 11:00 Am in the meeting room in the church foyer. The group is always looking for additional singers as well as instrumentalists. The folk group is under the direction of Ms. Jennie Esposito. Teenage Group On the fourth Sunday of each month our high school students are invited to sing and play for the 12:15 Pm mass. ALL high school students are invited to either sing play an instrument or do both! This group is also under the direction of Ms. Jennie Esposito. Please feel free to see Jennie after the 12:15 mass on Sundays for more information on either the folk or the teenage group. 4 Lent at SJV Parish During Lent we invite you to join us as we prepare for Easter in a spiritual way. The following Lenten programs are being offered this year for the entire parish community. An afternoon of scripture and music, Sunday March 15 th at 3:00 Pm in the church. Plan on joining us on Latare Sunday (Fourth Sunday of Lent) as scripture readings are proclaimed and our adult choir leads us in singing a presentation of Lenten and Holy week music. Hopefully we can all join in singing some of our traditional Lenten hymns together. Following the presentation, please join us in the school cafeteria for food and fellowship, as well as crafts for the children! Parish Tenebrae Service, Tuesday March 31 st at 7:30 Pm in the church. This year we will be holding the service in the evening! The distinctive ceremony of Tenebrae is the gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and psalms are recited and chanted. Our adult choir will be leading us in the sung portion of the service. Plan on joining us as on Tuesday evening Holy Week! Attempt a more intentional prayer life start a habit in the morning and before bedtime. 2. Read a book on Christian spirituality, one that will enrich your spiritual journey. 3. Make a prayer basket at home - slips of paper or construction paper hearts (invite kids to participate) writing names or intentions that each person around the table picks out before each meal. 4. Attend a weekday Mass. 5. Pray the rosary - even better if you don t mind bringing out your beads in public - on the bus, coffee shop or anywhere else people gather.
