PARISH MISSION POETRY AND PSALMS IN THE WORLD OF PRAYER RESERVE THE DATES: MARCH 19, 20, & 21 Fr.Eamonn Donnelly, SVD, Divine Word Missionary will introduce some poetry of George Herbert, whose writings are now popular in the area of spirituality. 2 PARISH LISTENING SESSION Bishop Checchio has asked that in preparation for the naming of a new pastor for our parish that an evening gathering be held among parishioners and facilitated by priest representatives from the diocesan priest personnel board. This setting will invite parishioner input and responses to questions about any unique areas of need that are perceived and how best to continue attention to parish life when preparing a profile of our parish. The meeting is scheduled for March 13 at 7PM in the church and should extend no more than 1 ½ hours in length Bishop s Annual Appeal Lighting a Fire in the Heart of Our World Thank you to all who have given so generously to the 2018 Bishop s Annual Appeal. If you have not made a pledge, there is still time to participate. All donors will receive a complimentary cholesterol screening. Donors need to weigh at least 110 lbs, bring ID, eat and drink before donation. Please give so that others may live. Thank you and God Bless! St. John Vianney School News God bless our second grade students who will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation this week. Students in 2B will be receiving the sacrament on Monday, March 5, at 6:00 PM, and students in 2A will receive the sacrament on Thursday, March 8, at 6:00 PM. The Spring Book Fair will take place from Tuesday through Thursday this week. All classes have been assigned a time when they will be able to shop for books. If you want your child to purchase books, please send the money in an envelope with their name on it. Families can also shop on Tuesday from 2:30-8:00 PM, Wednesday from 2:30-5:00 PM, and on Thursday from 2:30-4:00 PM. You can also shop online until March 12. The Book Fair Website is Tuesday, March 6, is the HSA General Meeting at 7:00 PM in the Cafeteria. You will also be able to purchase books from the Book Fair before and after the meeting. If you haven t already done so, please complete the reregistration forms and return them to school as soon as possible. The textbook and busing forms were due back on Feb. 28. We must have the forms back in order to get them to the proper districts. If you have any questions, please call the school office. Pre-School News On Tuesday, March 6, Pre-School parents are cordially invited to attend a special HSA meeting. This is just for Pre-School parents and will take place in the main school gym at 6:30 PM. Come learn about all that is going on at the Pre-School and hear from some of our parents. CATHOLIC SCHOOL TUITION ASSISTANCE ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS OPEN Families interested in applying for tuition assistance to attend an eligible Diocese of Metuchen Catholic elementary or high school may do so now. The application process is online through FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment. Online applications must be completed (including supporting documentation) by no later than Saturday, March 31, Applications are available in English and Spanish.

3 MUSIC MINISTRY NEWS SAINT VINCENT de PAUL CAR DONATIONS: , OR GO ONLINE AT Our choirs are continuing to practice for the Lenten season as well as Holy Week!! New members are always welcome to join during Lent!! Adult Choir Our parish adult choir enhances our liturgies each Sunday from September through mid-june. The choir also sings for many special occasions during the year, such as: Christmas Eve Mass, Holy Week, Confirmation, and our Mass of Remembrance in November!! The choir also provides two beautiful concerts for the parish, one during Advent and the other during Lent. We are always looking for new people to join with our very dedicated group!! We welcome all adults (And high school students) to be part of our choir! The adult choir sings weekly at the 9:00 am mass (And once a month at the 10:45 am mass). We practice each Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:00 Pm in the church. Our next rehearsal will be Wednesday March 7th and we sing again on Sunday March 11th at the 9:00 am mass. Children s Choir Our parish children s choir is made of students from our parish from grades two and up!! The children in the group love coming together to sing for Sunday liturgies as well as special events during the year. The choir sings for our parish Christmas Pageant and 4:00 pm mass on Christmas Eve, as well as the 9:00 am mass on Easter Sunday!! We practice on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the church. We sing twice a month at either the 9:00 or 10:45 am mass! Our next rehearsal will be on Tuesday March 13th and we sing again on Sunday March 18th at the 10;45 mass. Folk Group Our Parish Folk Group enhances the 12:15 liturgy each week. The Folk Group is under the direction of Ms. Jennie Esposito. Rehearsals are held weekly at 11:15 Am in the conference room adjacent to the church gathering area. Jennie is always looking for more singers as well as instrumentalists to join with the Folk Group! Teenage/College Group This group of young adults in the parish generally enhances the 12:15 Pm mass on the fourth Sunday of each month. Rehearsal is held at 11:15 am in the conference room. If you sing or play an instrument, then this group is for you!! Please speak to Jennie Esposito after 12:15 pm for more information on both groups!! Of Music/Organist The following food items are needed for the St. James Food Pantry: instant potatoes, baked beans, oatmeal, pancake mix and pancake syrup. Thank you for your generosity. PRO LIFE There will be no meeting in March. Our next meeting is Tuesday, April 24 th. Maternity donations can be dropped in the crib in the foyer of the church. Diapers size 3 thru 6 are always welcome. Although we accept gently used items, they should be clean and ready to use. If it s suitable for your grandchild, we can use it. If you have larger items, please call Carolyn at to arrange for pickup. Thank you for your continued generosity. PEER COUNSELOR TRAINING Life Choices Resource Center, Metuchen Are you a good listener? Believe every life has value? Feel God is calling you to something special? Life Choices in Metuchen is a pregnancy center assisting women & families dealing with unexpected pregnancy. We are also developing a MEN s Program as well. We are conducting our next Peer Counselor Training from April 4 to May 19, 2018 (4 sessions on Wed or Sat over an 8-week stretch). The main prerequisites are a caring heart and the patience to listen. 4 The Society of St. Vincent DePaul is collecting, new or gently used Communion dresses, suits and accessories for those less fortunate in our community. It is the perfect opportunity to donate those outfits your child has outgrown to make some other child s Communion day just as special. Please return all donations by March 18 th.
