10 10 Parish Pen Friends Dear Parent, Your 3rd through 8th grade student is participating in a new project at St. Ann s beginning during Catholic Schools week. It is called Parish Pen Friends! Each student is being assigned an older member of our parish to write a letter to. The hope is that they will also receive a letter back...and that the letters will continue to flow back-andforth between the two Pen Friends! The students will initiate the letter writing at school, and the letter will be mailed to their Pen Friend this coming week. When their Pen Friend writes them back, the letter will come to St. Ann s and be delivered to the student. We hope receiving mail in their classrooms will generate enthusiasm for the project, encouraging the students to write back! From this point on, the students will be responsible for keeping the correspondence going from home. We will send you the name and address of your child s Parish Pen Friend so that you have the contact information. We have many aging members in our Parish. Some of these are widowed, homebound, or in senior living facilities. Regardless, all of them would love connecting with a younger person! Your child s letter will undoubtedly be a highlight of their day! Please encourage your daughter/son to continue writing letters to their Pen Friend from home. By connecting the two, we hope to instill a greater sense of community at St. Ann and show our students the value of building relationships with their elders. Thank you! Anne Edmonds
