February 18 K-8 Lutheran Schools Week Sunday February 25 Koine Christian Band church 4 pm (kids can join in on 2 songs they know!) The goal is to build bridges, not barriers. Our Wednesday chapel offerings will help accomplish this. Amount collected: $ Total amount collected this semester: $ Sunday Worship Attendance This Week: K = 8 / 11 1 = 6 / 11 2 = 5 / 9 3 & 4 = 13 / 20 5 & 6 = 13 / 16 7 & 8 = 8 / TOTAL: 53 / 85 (62%) ==================================================================================== Mrs. Mullen's Room (Preschool) MWF Morning/Afternoon Class Jesus Calms the Storm is our third miracle lesson. Our focus this week is TRUST. Taking our troubles to God when we need him the most should be second nature. We will practice trust with a partner as we take turns being led around our room while blindfolded. Tue/Thur Class This class will study the Zacchaeus bible story a second week. My goal is to have each of the children understand that being kind and helping others, shows our love for Jesus through actions. Forgiveness is a big part of the picture as well. All of us are looking forward to the Valentines Day parties! The boxes are amazing! We are building our annual cereal box wall. If you wish to contribute any boxes we would be happy to add them to our collection. Our goal is 100. Have a wonderful week walking with Jesus, Mrs. Mullen Mrs. Paulsen's Room (Kindergarten) SUPERKIDS: This week we will be starting the letter Rr. We will also be working on distinguishing between d and b because this is a challenge for children. A great distinction between the two is where you start the letter when you write it. If you spend time writing at home, ask your child to show you the difference.
3 CHRIST LIGHT: Our Bible stories this week focus on more of Jesus miracles. We will be learning the stories of Jesus Calms the Storm and Jesus Walks on Water. Bible Verse: Call upon me in the day of trouble I will deliver you Psalm 50:15 Hymn of the Week: CWS 103 Glory be to Jesus MATH: We will be working with geoboards, length, and patterns again this week, specifically ABC patterns. They will be copying, continuing, and creating their own patterns. THEMES: This week we will continue talking about the postal service. We will be discussing how mail works and delivering mail or valentines to each other! This is a great transition into focusing on what addresses are. We will be working on addresses this week. We will start with what street we live on and move on from there. MORE: Wednesday is not only Valentines Day, it is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. Kindergarten-8 th grade will be singing with the adult choir in church. We ask that the children be there at 5:50 to practice with the choir. Church starts at 6:30 but there is a Lenten dinner before that begins at 5:00. Please join us for dinner and a celebration of Christ s love and sacrifice. Valentines day is Wednesday! We will be having our own small celebration in the morning. Please have your children s box to school by Tuesday! Thank you for supplying the 100 juice boxes for our 100 th day of school. We made a tower out of them and they will be used by K-2 nd grade for various activities in the next week or so. I sent home book orders; they will be due back by February 21 st. Thank you! Have a wonderful week! Hopefully we will see a little warmer weather a day or two this week, the children are anxiously awaiting getting back outside. Mrs.Paulsen Mrs. Spreeman (Grade 1) Happy Monday! The 100th Day was so much fun! Thank you for bringing in the items for the Trail Mix. We had enough left over to share with the 5-8th graders since they don t get to celebrate the 100th day the way we do. :) This is another special week. We will celebrate Valentine s Day and the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday. I guess that is fitting God is Love. He showed us how much he loves us by giving us Jesus. We will also continue reading biographies about Abraham Lincoln, Ruby Bridges, Pablo Picasso, and George Washington. On Friday we will learn a little bit about Chinese New Year. Our science explorations will be about teeth and the effect of different foods and beverages on our teeth. Our Bible lessons are about God s faithfulness to Ruth and Hannah. We will see that God answers our prayers. *The kids sing on Wednesday night for our Ash Wednesday service. Supper is served before the service, starting at 5:00. The kids will practice in the church at 5:50. *The kids also sing on Sunday to kick off Lutheran Schools Week. *Please have your child bring a Valentine for each classmate by Wednesday. The students continue to have fun with them during our many indoor recesses because of the cold weather. Wednesday is Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday. We will be talking about how special both days are throughout the day on Wednesday. Please send in a Valentine box or bag and Valentine cards by Wednesday. Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent when we remember that Jesus suffered and died for our sins. K-8 will be singing at church on Wednesday night at 6:30. They will sit with you until it's time to sing (after the sermon). Have a blessed week, Mrs. Nelson Mrs. Rixe's Classes (Grades 3 & 4) Singing: We sing Ash Wednesday the 14th and Sunday the 18th for the start of Lutheran Schools' Week. Please join us if you can. Spelling Bee: The school spelling bee is Wednesday the 21st. We plan to have the classroom test for it this Thursday.
5 Field Trip: Our class field trip is April 17th to the Exploit Center. (I took that date because they were completely booked up the rest of April and May. Christ Light: Our lessons this week are The 12 spies & Korah's rebellion. Ask us what the Ark of the Covenant was and what was in it. Memory for Tuesday is Romans 6:23; Friday's memory is hymn 208 stanza 1 (we'll fill in the blanks). Science: Students (with parents) should have decided what animal they want to do for their report and whether they are doing the research project on their own or with a partner. I will be sending home pages to help guide the report in steps. It would be good to have the trifold board at the end of this week or next week. Language: Possessives will be our next unit. Plural possessives can be tricky; we may need some extra help. Spelling: Unit 20. Pages are due on Wednesday, while pages are due on Friday. Please let me know if you plan on doing so. Thanks! 5-6 ChristLight Our lessons for this week are Gideon s Call and Gideon s Victory.
