Proverbs 22:6 Lutheran School The Lutheran Church of the 2101 Lor Ray Drive North Mankato, MN Feb-Mar 2008 Pastor s article: Following God s Plan National s Week is March 3-9. This year s theme verse is Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. God s plans for us include giving us faith which endures to eternal life and also to use us during our lives in this world to be a blessing to others. Students at are prepared for the future God has planned for them by what they learn in the classroom and by other experiences they have together. On Monday of s Week, older students will read for younger students and together they will write about What I like about. On Tuesday, students are invited to wear school shirts as they put their faith into action, packaging food at Kids Against Hunger. Family and friends of Lutheran School are invited to help provide funds for the food. Checks can be sent to the school, made out to Kids Against Hunger. On Wednesday, students are invited to dress up for chapel, where they learn from God s Word about the hope and the eternal future that God gives us. Guests are also welcome at chapel, which is now at 9:15 AM so that preschool students can be included. On Thursday, students are invited to wear clothing or accessories that express a Christian witness, as they go next door to sing for residents at North Point/ Willow Point assisted living. On Friday, students are encouraged to think about what they hope to do in the future and dress in a way that reflects a career they may want to pursue. Saturday is a day that grades 5-7 may be looking forward to with hope. They will go on a sledding party. God has His good plans for Good Shepherd. The future will reveal what these plans are. Because of the confident hope that we have in God, we too make plans to prosper and to encourage hope for our students. The School Board had hoped to offer grade 8 in fall 2008, but this is not yet financially possible, so K - 7 class arrangements will remain the same. As the students are learning to express their faith to others and to put it into action by sharing with others, Our Shepherd s Staff: Pastor Vance Becker Preschool: Tracy Mielke Kindergarten: Alice Brase Elementary: Linda Becker, Carolyn Garman adults who have hopes for Good Shepherd are also encouraged to do the same. Talk with others about this faith-building ministry and share the hope of how other new students can benefit from attending. Join in working toward the future by volunteering to help in a classroom or with support duties. As God prospers you, share financial support so that more students can have hope and be prepared for God s plans for their future. During this Lenten season, we are especially reminded of how God has fulfilled the plans of which Jeremiah prophesied. God has sent a Savior who has died for us so that we will not be harmed by sin, death, and the devil. Instead, our confident hope for the future is the forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and salvation. God s plans to give us hope are real.

2 PAGE 2 5th through 7th! The new excitement in our classroom is the addition of recorders. We will be learning to play our recorders this quarter in music class. It will be interesting to hear how we progress from squeaks and squawks to melodies. and are now starting a unit on magnets. One day we floated magnets attached to ping pong balls and experimented with making the magnets sail across the bowl while we moved other magnets near the bowl. All God s Children are continuing to grow in our classroom. We do study hard In our Bible study we are learning that God will take care of our needs, just as He took care of Elijah in the desert. and take tests, -Mrs. Becker 2nd, 3rd and 4th! Warm greetings from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders. We seem to like warm greetings at this time of year as the temperature outside has been very cold. We have had to stay in many recesses because of the bitter cold, but we like being outside more. The 4th grade girls have been writing poems in reading and I would like to share them with you. In Science we grew crystals, FLOWERS by Liberty McBride but we also find time for a fun game Roses are flowers, of spoons! lilacs are flowers. Flowers, flowers, flowers. Big, small, all around. 3 PAGE 3 COLORS by Bhan Tiap: Colors are everywhere. There is blue glue, red beds, green beans, pink ink, yellow mellow, and black racks. I love colors. Valentine s Day came with lots of hearts and lots of love spread around. Jesus, of course, gives us so much love that we need to share as much as we can at all times. Valentine s Day is just one day that we can show it. We have moved to the Midwest in our Social Studies lessons. We are familiar with this region the most and have the most to share in class. 2nd graders have been digging up bones in science and are finding out that it is not easy to put the pieces together if some are missing. Thank you again for the support that everyone gives to us and we pray that you are blessed as much as we are. Mrs. Garman and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders. -Mrs. Garman Kindergarten and 1st! Although the weather has often been cold and we couldn t get outside, K-1 has continued to work hard. The 14th of February was a big day in our room. We not only celebrated Valentine s Day, but we also celebrated our 100th day of school. We exchanged valentines and made necklaces with 100 beads (fruit loops and cheerios). First graders have just finished several projects. They wrote a report on Abraham Lincoln and made murals of the rain forest. Kindergarten especially enjoyed reading the book All to Build a Snowman. We also enjoyed catching snowflakes on black paper so we could better observe them. In the days leading up to Valentine s Day, we discussed how God, in His great love, forgives us all our sins through Jesus death and resurrection. Because we are sinners, our will is often not like God s will. We cannot fully obey God s will, no matter how hard we try. God knows this. But His will is also that people will be saved. God sent His son, Jesus, to live, die, and arise for us. We pray that as His forgiven people, God will lead and enable us to live according to His will. 4 PAGE 4 Little Lambs Feb. Update Week 1 Shapes. We made frosty shapes for art and played shape bingo. We read the book Color Farm, a book about animals and shapes. Week 2 Valentines. We made Valentines bags and had a Valentines party. For art we made candy hearts, we used sweetened condensed milk and food coloring. Almost all the preschoolers had a heart painted on their face. We also had a candy hunt. Week 3 Go Away Big Green Monster. We made big green monster faces for art. We read the book Go Away Big Green Monster. The Children love the story! Week 4 Getting ready for spring conferences. Spring pigs for art. We read It Looked Like Spilt Milk. Bible Stories: David and Goliath, Moses, Ash Wednesday. Lent. Coming up in March Easter Story, Lions and Lambs, Dinosaurs, Solar System. Schedule for National s Week: March 3-9 TUESDAY: KIDS AGAINST HUNGER wear your T-shirt or sweatshirt. WEDNESDAY: Chapel- Dress up in nice clothes. THURSDAY: singing at North Point; wear a Christian faith shirt or jewelry. FRIDAY: Dress up in clothes that represent your future job. SATURDAY: GRADES 5-7 Sledding at Sibley Hill and soup at the church afterwards. SUNDAY: K-7 sing at the 8:00 AM service; Grades 5-7 Bake Sale. Region IV Fine Arts Fair On March 29, 2008, the Region IV s will host the 24th Annual Fine Arts and Science Festival at Martin Luther High School, Northrup, MN. Students from the Region IV schools can enter a project in the art, science, creative writing, dramatic reading or music sections. The objectives of the Festival are to give each student an opportunity to show his/her talents and be evaluated accordingly. The Festival is to be a source of encouragement and a learning experience for the students. God s name is also to be glorified. The day will conclude with vocal and/or hand bell choirs from various schools. Thank You Volunteers Many Hands Help with the work. It takes a lot of volunteer helpers to make Lutheran School run smoothly. In addition to volunteers who take turns in the office each day of the week, others come to help with lunch or cleaning up. More volunteers wanted on a regular basis and as substitutes. If you can help in the office one morning or afternoon each week, help to pick up and serve the lunch, or help clean up in the afternoon, please or call the school.
