I was tired as I was at Mass this morning struggling to focus and listen attentively. It s been very busy with Kindergarten Kickoff this afternoon, lots of evening meetings, hiring of new teachers, and many other school and family related activities. Going to Mass seemed like one more thing to do this morning, but I was so glad that I was there. I was reminded that sometimes we are capable of giving God big gifts, and sometimes we can give God small gifts. On some days, we have lots of energy to be of service to those around us. And other days, all we might be able to do is simply make it to weekly Mass on Sunday- and struggle to pay attention! Nevertheless, God appreciates that we give what works we can. This thought remains with me today- that we can believe the works God does in our lives, and we can respond with our own works, whether they are large or small. On days when I may not be able to give as much as I might like, I try not to forget that small works matter too. As my rector for four years at Notre Dame, Fr. Rob Moss, said fidelity in the little things. I have faith that God appreciates the small works that we can offer in our lives. They are all a way for us to participate in the biggest work God offers us- salvation through Jesus, which we celebrate next week. Enjoy this beautiful weather and have a fantastic weekend. 2 2 News Flash Congratulations on a successful Culver s Spirit Night! St. Ann earned $425 and the 1st grade class won free ice cream coupons! THANK YOU 4th grade parents for providing lunch and treats for the teachers and staff at the Book Fair on Wednesday!! PARENTS Monday, April 10, in honor of the Royals home opener, students may wear blue Royals gear it is a dress down day. The sixth grade class would like to send a big THANK YOU to all families who contributed to Giving the Basics. Several bags of toiletries were donated to this wonderful organization. The Easter Triduum: April 13th, 14th and 15th These three days lead us to an empty tomb and introduce an entire liturgical season, the Easter Season, which lasts for Fifty days until Pentecost. The Easter Triduum of the passion and resurrection of Christ is the culmination of the entire liturgical year! It is not simply a re-enactment of something that happened over 2000 years ago but an invitation for actual participation in the events themselves through living faith. Come and join us!! Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper, 7:00 pm (Holy Thursday begins the Triduum with a Mass of the Lord's Supper, commemorating Christ's Last Supper with His disciples before His arrest and crucifixion.) Good Friday Service, 7:00 pm (Good Friday commemorates the Passion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross.) Mrs. Sullivan s first grade has chosen Cece Santa as their Christian Leader. Her classmates say that Cece is always kind and caring for others. She is a good friend and she is very funny. Cece is very helpful and she makes our classroom a better place! Cece is always a great example of Christ in our school. Congratulations, Cece! Holy Saturday, 7:00 pm (Also known as the Easter Vigil Mass, this is a wonderful way to celebrate Christ's resurrection.) 5 5 During the past few weeks, all 7th and 8th graders have been developing speeches for the Modern Woodmen Speech Contest. Last week, speeches began and the list of 85 amazing contestants was brought to the "Sweet 16" from each grade level. On Tuesday, the "Tremendous 12" were announced. These 12 students represent the top speeches from both grade levels. This group of students will move on to level 2 and will present their speeches next Tuesday (April 11) in the Parish Hall at 12:15. (The 1st and 2nd place winners from level 2 will move on to the regional competition held at St. Ann on April 27th. Congratulations to our students moving on in the Modern Woodmen Speech Contest! 8 8 Author A.J. Culey visited St. Ann today and read from one of her books, Tyrabbisaurus Rex, about a rabbit not willing to accept his fate as a classroom pet.
