We thought we had two; we find we have five. Richard Meux Benson Blessed are you who fear the L. Psalm 128:1a SHARING OUR GIFTS Autumn is the season for harvesting and sharing the fruits of our labors. This week s scriptures use images of the harvest, family life, pregnancy, and investment to describe the abundant harvest in the reign of God. We discover that sharing the gifts we have been given brings eternal rewards for everyone. In the Gospel parable a master entrusts his possessions to three servants before going on a journey. Each is given some talents. What they do with those talents determines what the master will do with them when he returns. How about us? What are we doing with our talents? How will our Master treat us when he returns? TODAY S READINGS First Reading The woman who fears the L is to be praised (Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31). Psalm Blessed are those who fear the Lord (Psalm 128). Second Reading Brothers and sisters, you are children of the light (1 Thessalonians 5:1-6). Do I plan quiet time for prayerful conversion with God? Do I come to Jesus at least weekly, if not more frequently, in the Eucharist? Do I recognize God as the source of all the blessings in my life? Do I tell family and friends of God s goodness? Do I humbly ask God to show me His will for this day? We are called to reach out to people in need: It means protecting people, showing loving concern for each and every person, especially children, the elderly, those in need, who are often the last we think about. -Pope Francis, March 19, 2013 Since the time of Christ, loving our neighbor has been connected to loving God. Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me (Mt 25:45). As our lives get more hectic, it is easy to forget our neighbor. This includes those who are struggling or homeless on the street and the hungry. This is why Pope Francis urges all people to help the poor in our area and treat everyone with human dignity. Jesus also teaches that God will judge us on the last day. On that day God will ask if we cared for Him when He was hungry, thirsty, a stranger, naked, ill or in prison (see The Judgment of the Nations, Mt 25:31-46). PROTECTING OTHERS Do I spend time with family, including my children, my spouse, and my parents? Do I show compassion to all God s children who suffer? Do I notice poor people in my community and treat them with respect and dignity, like Jesus did? Am I involved in ministry work to protect the unborn, the hungry, the homeless, the imprisoned, the sick, the lonely or the elderly? Adapted by Our Sunday Visitor by Susan Erschen

A steward is one who manages the possessions of another. We are all stewards of the resources, abili es and opportuni es that God has entrusted to our care, and one day each one of us will be called to give an account for how we have managed what the Master has given us. This is the maxim taught by the Parable of the Talents. God has entrusted authority over the crea on to us and we are not allowed to rule over it as we see fit. We are called to exercise our dominion under the watchful eye of the Creator managing His crea on in accord with the principles He has established. Like the servants in the Parable of the Talents, we will be called to give an account of how we have administered everything we have been given, including our me, money, abili es, informa on, wisdom, rela onships, and authority. We will all give account to the righ ul owner as to how well we managed the things He has entrusted to us. ( Principle 4, next week) Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already. C. S. Respuesta: Ciertamente, el Sacerdote es un ser humano como cualquier otro, con todas sus debilidades, iguales o mayores que las de los demás. Pero resulta que tiene un poder especialísimo que le otorga -nada menos que Dios- para perdonar los pecados de todos los hombres y mujeres que se acerquen al Sacramento de la Confesión. Y por qué ha de parecer esto tan extraño? Fijémonos en el funcionamiento de las autoridades de un país, de una ciudad, de un municipio. No tiene poder para llevarnos presos o imponernos una multa un Policía? Es un hombre como cualquier otro, pero tiene la potestad hasta de privarnos de nuestra libertad. Igualmente el Sacerdote es un ser humano como cualquier otro. Pero Jesucristo le dio el poder de perdonar nuestros pecados: A quienes les perdonen los pecados les quedan perdonados y a quienes no se los perdonen les quedan sin perdonar (Jn. 20, 19-23). Estas palabras se las dijo Jesucristo a sus Apóstoles el mismo día de su Resurrección. Se las estaba diciendo a los primeros Sacerdotes y también a los que vinieran después de ellos. Les estaba diciendo que cuando pronunciaran las palabras del perdón a cada pecador arrepentido, El ratificaría ese perdón en el Cielo, porque anteriormente les había dicho también: Lo que aten en la tierra quedará atado en el Cielo y lo que desaten en la tierra quedará desatado en el Cielo. (Mt. 18,18) Por qué cuestionar la forma como Dios dispuso las cosas para nuestro bien? Qué pretendemos? Que se nos perdone sin informar lo que deseamos nos sea perdonado? Dios hubiera podido escoger muchas otras maneras para perdonarnos. Podría haber escogido maneras más difíciles o desagradables. Pero escogió ésta: escogió dejarnos el Sacramento de la Reconciliación o Penitencia o Confesión. Dios, que es infinitamente sabio y misericordioso, sabía que necesitaríamos de la catarsis que significa el poder dejar por completo la culpa en el Confesionario. Al decir los pecados al Sacerdote y oír las palabras del perdón, nuestra alma no sólo queda blanqueada de los pecados cometidos, sino liviana por ya no tener que cargar con el peso de la culpa. Adicionalmente, la Iglesia ha dispuesto que el Sacramento de la Confesión sea lo menos difícil posible: absolutamente secreto y sin mayores trabas. Para qué, entonces, buscar motivos para seguir en pecado y cargando con el peso de la culpa, en vez de aprovechar la misericordia de Dios y sentirnos livianos, sin carga, en paz, al confesar los pecados al Sacerdote? Aprovechemos los medios que Dios ha dispuesto. Y más bien agradezcámosle su Amor y Misericordia infinitos al prever que seres humanos, como nosotros, escogidos por El para perdonar los pecados, estén a nuestra disposición.

TREE OF LIGHTS The St. Joan of Arc conference of The St. Vincent de Paul Society will be offering memorials on the Tree Of Lights for a dona on of $5 each. You may have a loved one or a special inten on prayed for by the Society and the congrega on. These memorials will be available at the greeter's desks in the rear of the church at all weekend masses from November 25 through December 17. Memorial cards will be available. This is the Society's only fund raiser for the year, please help us with our ministry to the poor of the area. PLEASE HELP OUR VETERANS Listed below are some of the personal items needed by our veterans at the James A. Haley V.A. Hospital in Tampa. Donations may be made at St. Joan of Arc (back hallway of Church). Some items needed are: disposable razor's, shaving cream, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, shampoo, denture cleaner, denture grip, foot powder, new socks, new underwear, playing cards, or books. In the United States, one in six people lives in poverty. With this collection you support programs that address the causes of poverty and provide a sustainable future for those who are struggling across the country. In addition, 25 percent of funds collected remains in our diocese to fund local anti-poverty projects. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this collection and work on the margins.
