Psalm 65:12 LISTEN Listen and attend with the ear of your heart. St. Benedict FRUIT OF THE WORD The seed is the word of God. The agricultural metaphors in all of today s readings give richness to the message that the word of God, cultivated in our hearts, bears much fruit in our lives. Creation itself awaits the redemption of all, even as our bodies await the resurrection. Just as we will rejoice in the fulfillment of God s word, so will all of creation sing for joy in the Reign of God. The word of God is effective and holy; it brings about exactly what it says. It is not futile or empty, but rich in meaning for those who hear and are healed. Those who hear the word of God and keep it will, with all creation, bear much fruit and sing for joy. However, the analysis of environmental problems cannot be separated from the analysis of human, family, work-related to themselves. Because of the interconnectedness of all of God s crea on, the pope states that we are in the midst of a complex crisis: We are faced not with two separate crises, one environmental and the other social, but rather with one complex crisis which is both social and environmental. Strategies for a solu on demand an integrated approach to comba ng poverty, restoring dignity to the excluded and at the same me, protec ng nature. Pope Francis asks: What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come a er us, to children who are now growing up? It is no longer enough, then, simply to state that we should be concerned for future genera ons. We need to see that what is at stake is our own dignity. Leaving an inhabitable planet to future genera ons is, first and foremost, up to us. The issue is one which drama cally affects us, for it has to do with the ul mate meaning of our earthy sojourn. 4 Page 4 (View this bulletin on-line at July 16, 2017 Notitas del Diácono José In today s Gospel, Jesus spoke to a large crowd of people about the sower who went out to sow seeds, and as he sowed, there were very different results, depending on where the seeds fell. Some fell on rocky ground; some fell on shallow soil; some fell among thorns. In all these cases, the plantings failed. It was only when the seed fell on rich soil, did it prosper and produce fruit. Let s imagine God as the Sower of seeds and His loving will as the seed, itself. And as to the different types of soil, let us be the ground, the soil or the dirt. Picture this: Each day, in some way, shape or form, God, the Sower, showers us (the soil) with the seeds of His will. And these are good seeds. Maybe one seed is His call asking us to forgive someone who has hurt us. Or maybe His will that day for us is to cool our anger, justified as it may seem, and keep our big mouths shut. Or maybe God is pointing out a need in someone else s life that we can fulfill. Or His will could be as simple as encouraging us to turn away from temptation. Whatever God s will is, we can be sure that it will be revealed to us; and if we have a hard time recognizing it, let us just look to do the loving thing. Okay. Now let s go to us, the soil. Some days we may be like rocky ground, which is hard to penetrate; and we totally ignore God s will. Or we may be just a thin layer of good soil enough to accept the seed, but not deep enough to sustain its growth. The Sower sometimes sows his seeds among the thorns; and when the seed sprouted, it was choked by the thorns. The Sower is clearly looking for rich soil, and how do we describe rich soil? Rich soil is open and welcoming. It is deep and not filled with the rocks of selfishness. This is true, also, in our lives. Let s be open to God s call to love Him by serving Him and giving ourselves to one another. It is in giving that we receive. St. Francis. Pudiera crecer algo en unas condiciones de vida tan agobiantes? Pensemos también en esas trazas rocosas de nuestra personalidad y nuestra carencia de profundidad, que presentan desafíos a cualquier cosa o persona para que eche raíces. Las espinas por las preocupaciones de la vida y por la seducción de las riquezas, y otras cosas que prefiriéramos no mencionar. Pero, no nos desanimemos. Sin negar lo inhóspito que solemos ser como terreno, acaso no nos sorprendemos a nosotros mismos algunas veces al percibir la palabra de Jesús, que inesperadamente hace nacer algo nuevo en nuestro corazón? Si eso sucede aun en nosotros, por qué no ha de ser posible en el resto de la Iglesia o más aún en nuestro mundo beligerante? Puede ser posible, por supuesto, en el tiempo exasperantemente paciente de Dios y en la manera escondida y silenciosa de Dios. Qué sucedería si, junto con Pablo, nos atreviéramos a creer que la creación entera anhelando que se realice plenamente nuestra condición de hijos de Dios? Y qué si ofreciéramos nuestros propios esfuerzos humildes, nuestro propio ser, a la obra paciente y perseverante de la siembra de Jesús, y lo hiciéramos con la misma generosidad y el mismo audaz optimismo que el Divino Sembrador derrocha en nosotros? Mark your calendars! Doors open at 4:00 PM. Dinner will be from 4:30-6:00 PM. Cost for Dinner and Dancing will be $ Dancing will start from 6:00-9:00 PM. Dancing only will be $3.00. Music by Angelo. Please pay at the door. SPECIALS FOR SENIORS IN NEED Mid-Florida will pay 2 entire electric bills per year. To qualify you must be 60 years or older; have a cut off notice from the electric company and must have an income {Social Security, etc.} Call and ask for senior services, Janet or Linda. Please be sure to take advantage of this if you are having difficulty paying your electric bill. This is a grievous evil which I have ever seen under the sun : riches kept by their owner to his hurt. Ecc. 5;12 26th ANNUAL ETHNIC FESTIVAL OCTOBER 19th through the 22nd Would you like to volunteer to help at our annual Ethnic Festival? Captains for various food booths are still needed. CCW will sponsor a blood drive this weekend from 8:00-1:00 pm. Please note that one pint may save three lives and the blood we get will stay in Hernando county. Young Adults, 17 years and older, are encouraged to give blood. Our parish is enrolled in the benefit plan. This is a way to give back to donors at St. Joan of Arc. LifeSouth helps defray the cost of non-insured processing fees relating to blood transfusion. Registra ons for Faith Forma on for for K-12 are being accepted at any me during office hours. Copies of Bap smal Cer ficates are mandatory for all registra ons. First Catechist Mee ng will be at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, August 30th in the Library. The first parent mee ng, with catechists, will be September 6th at 6:00 PM in the church. This is for all catechists and parents from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade. This will be held in the church. Kindergarten-5th will begin Faith Forma on on Wednesday evenings at 5:45-7:00 PM beginning September 13th. Sixth through Eighth will meet every other Sunday beginning September 17th a er a ending the 11:00 AM Mass together and will end at 3:00 PM. Confirma on classes, for those who have completed their full two years prior to this class, will begin Sunday, September 17th at 9:00 AM in the Parish Hall, ending with a endance at the 11:00 AM Mass. Registra ons for Confirma on for Adults who have already received Bap sm and Communion are being accepted.
