1 ARCHBISHOP NOLL COUNCIL Meeting night is the second Thursday of every month at 7:00 P.M. At NOLL Hall BISHOP LEO PURSLEY ASSEMBLY Meeting night is the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 P.M. At NOLL Hall Knightly News May Grand Knight Views Dear Brother Knights, It s finally starting to feel like spring! Of course, I think of fresh beginnings when I think of spring: from our new life in Christ s resurrection to the budding of flowers or the start of baseball season. My wife, Katie, and I recently had a chance to renew and refresh our marriage through Worldwide Marriage Encounter, Council 4511 Officers Grand Knight Matt Frye Deputy Grand Knight Pat Cox Chancellor Mike Beard Chaplains Reverend Phil DeVolder, Reverend Chuck Herman Financial Secretary Chuck Whitcraft Treasurer Chad Wainscott Recorder Steve Sudhoff Advocate Alfonso Ochoa Warden Rob Wolff Inside Guard Craig Smith Outside Guard Nick Walenga Trustee 1 year Dave Smolen Trustee 2 year Jerry Nelson Trustee 3 year Dan Hampton Newsletter Editor Bob List boblistphotography@gmail.com so I d like to briefly reflect on our role as Knights within our vocations. For those brothers who are married, we re called to live in a sacramental covenant with our wife. Sacramental marriage mirrors the love of both the Holy Trinity and the Holy Family. Children are begotten of sacramental love just as the Holy Spirit is begotten of God the Father and Jesus Christ, His son. Therefore, strong, faith-filled marriages are the nucleus of a healthy family and the world around us. As Knights, we re examples of Christ s love to those around us and that often includes our marriages. It s imperative that married Knights find a way to choose love for their spouse on a daily basis, and programs such as Worldwide Marriage Encounter can help us do so more intimately. For our brothers who are single, the vocation of single life closely aligns with that of our priests and religious. Our priests are called to sacramental marriage with the Church, and so, in a similar way, single Knights are called to serve Christ and His people in the community. It s equally important for our priests, religious, and single lay persons to connect with the Church community as the Body of Christ. Information regarding the local Knights of Columbus scholarship, along with the application form, is now available on the council website. Applications must be postmarked by May 23, Please extend a warm welcome to Andy Sutton, Chris Gaby, and Josh Sponseller, our newest members who joined the council during the Admission (1 st ) Degree on April 12! I want to extend a special thank you to brothers Chuck Whitcraft and Steve Sudhoff for all of the improvements they ve been making to the hall! The next time you re in the hall, take a moment to check out the new shelving and countertop in the club room or the new ceiling and exhaust system in the kitchen! Please join me in thanking these two brother Knights for sharing their time, talent and treasure for the good of the order! Upcoming activities for the Warsaw Council: May 4-5 Tootsie Roll Drive o Friday shifts: 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm, 3pm-6:30pm o Saturday shifts: 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm o Please contact Steve Sudhoff at to volunteer May 10 Council Meeting at 7pm at the hall o Dinner and social hour at 6pm o Nominations for officers will continue during this meeting May 11 Fish Fry at hall from 4:30pm-7:00pm May 23 Deadline for scholarship applications (postmark date) Brothers, thank you for your hard work in April! Over the years, brother Knight Steve Sudhoff has shown us the data about the Tootsie Roll drive, and the numbers don t lie. The amount of money raised in the Tootsie Roll drive is directly related to the number of people who help. I ask that every Knight sacrifice 1-2 hours on May 4 th or 5 th for the benefit of those with intellectual disabilities. We appreciate your prayerful generosity! Your brother in Christ, Matt Frye Grand Knight

2 Dear Brother Knights, From our Seminarian I hope you are all having a fruitful and joyous Easter season! As the summer approaches, I wanted to write you all to let you know how life in the seminary is going. I can t believe how fast the time has flown and I am coming up on graduation, which is May 6th. The past four years have been amazing and I thank you all for your prayer and support, I know that I could not have made it through without it! Next year I will begin my theological studies, and Bishop Rhoades has asked me to do the second half of my studies in Rome. Therefore, I will be flying out of the US on July 17 th and spending 2 years straight there. I will return for a summer assignment in a parish every year after that for a total of five years. I am excited and honored by the opportunity and look forward to it! I also ask for your continued prayers as it will not be easy, but it will be worth it! This summer I have been assigned to St. John the Baptist in Fort Wayne and I will spend most of the summer working there. Once again I just want to thank you all for the work you do through the Knights to support men like me discerning priesthood! Yours in Christ, Risen from the Dead, P.S. My address will be changing due to me moving out of Indianapolis. From May 7 to July 15 th After July 17 th : Pontifical North American College Seminarian Diocese of Fort Wayne - South Bend Bishop Simon Bruté Seminary MU '18 "Time is passing, eternity awaits." 4500 Fairfield Ave Fort Wayne, IN Via del Gianicolo, 14, Rome, RM, Italy, Welcome to our newest Knights Josh Sponseller, Andy Sutton and Chris Gaby joined our council at the April KofC meeting. Be sure to welcome them when you see them and invite them to work on a committee with you. Don't Assume You Can't Afford Disability Income Insurance One of the biggest mistakes you can make regarding disability insurance is to assume you can't afford it or you won't qualify. Before you make that assumption, do some basic research and apply for coverage through the Knights of Columbus. The Order s Income Armor product gives you options that can help you fit this critical protection into your risk management budget. Here are two ways you can reduce your premium: 1. Choose a two-year or five-year maximum benefit period. Depending on your age, the best option is probably a policy that pays benefits until you reach age 67. But a two-year or five-year duration benefit period would cover disabilities you might encounter in your working life. 2. Choose a longer elimination period. An elimination period is the number of days a total disability must exist before benefits begin to accrue. Typical elimination periods are 30, 90, or 180 days. Choosing a longer elimination period lowers the policy s premium. But be sure you have enough set aside in your contingency fund to account for the longer gap. As your professional insurance agent, risk management is my specialty. Let s talk about how to protect your income, your retirement needs, and your family's financial future.

4 Knights of Columbus P.O. Box 871 Warsaw, Indiana Tootsie Roll Drive Knights Bulletin May 4 th and 5 th the Knights of Columbus annual community Tootsie Roll Drive will be held. The key to success centers on People Power! The Lord provides everything needed to aid those with intellectual disabilities served by Cardinal Services, Special Olympics, and Magical Meadows except for your YES to volunteer and help. Last year 108 volunteers shared their time and talent to work 487 man hours on Tootsie Roll weekend. 64 of those volunteers were from Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Parish. 13,800 Tootsie rolls were distributed and $19, was raised. Knights have been distributing Tootsie Rolls for 42 years. Council 4511 Tootsie Roll records go back to 1986; since that time the council has raised $500, We need your help to keep this tradition going. The Lord will again place the cars and shoppers on the streets and at the stores on May 4 th and 5 th. Please say YES to the cause, sign up after Mass (last two weeks of April), and donate some of your time and talent to volunteer for the intellectually handicapped. You and friends can work any shift(s) on Friday, May 4, and/or Saturday, May 5. May our Risen Lord continue to show each of us His path for our life! Your Brother In Christ,

5 Pro-Life News SANCTITY 4 LIFE A Day of Prayer and Protest was held across the US of Sat. the 26th. Over 100 cities took part in it and Fort Wayne was one of five cities in Indiana that held a protest. It took place close to Jefferson Point where there is a Planned Parenthood (PP) facility. About 120 people took part, holding a variety of signs decrying PP inhuman attitude towards life. The weather was chilly with a 20 mile an hour wind. Perhaps this kept the crowd down as there was at least twice as many participants last year. This is the third year for this event. If the honking of car horns was an indication of support, there was considerable evidence of support. Robert Rho of Queens, NY, has been on trial for the past 2 weeks with the charge of 2nd degree murder against him. He is an abortionist who badly botched the procedure. Jamie Morales was noticeably bleeding in the recover room and after a while Rho conducted a 2nd procedure. Even though Jamie was still bleeding he released her to a sister rather than calling for a ambulance. The sister took Jamie to a hospital where she died soon after arriving. While we pray for Jamie's soul, and the souls of all abortionists, we pray that justice will have its day in this courtroom. Last month I reported that the Indiana legislature passed a bill requiring abortion providers to document and report any complications resulting from an abortion. Again, this was supported by both political parties. PP and the ACLU has filed suite against this legislation and have found a federal judge that will hear their complaint. Although there is little doubt that their complaints will not hold up in court, filing a suite against any pro life legislation is standard policy with PP. Even when is not likely that PP will win a case, they are very willing to tie up the legislation for as long as possible in court. PP has very deep pockets when comes to cash. This was the situation in 1995 when the informal consent law was passed in Indiana. This law benefited women seeking an abortion. PP managed to keep this law from becoming active for many years. A new California law forcing all school children to undergo a number of anti life, amoral thinking processes will be presented next month. Bill Landrigan
