Then God led him to a career as an airplane mechanic, but his love for Christian music continued. David, his wife Kris, and six of their eight children (Ben, Taylor, Sam, Jayme, and Caleb) now travel the upper midwest full-time singing traditional Christian hymns, Southern Gospel songs, Gospel Bluegrass, and songs they have composed together. Since their simple beginning in 2008, singing Southern Gospel classics around the piano in the living room, they released their third CD in Being part of a family is always an adventure. Being part of a family that tours the upper Midwest performing concerts, leading worship music, hauling instruments, sound equipment and six kids from 8 to 21 now that's a great adventure! Great Adventure Family Band. Each song is an adventure as this live family band plays a wide variety of instruments, including guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, upright bass, harmonica, and more. Combining their exciting musical arrangements and harmonies, the energetic family is eager to share their homegrown talents. They love to work as a team, and their joy as family overflows as they and play together. Above all, The Garms Family is passionate about the Gospel of Jesus and loves to share the message with young and old. Wherever they go, they are quick to point to the Lord as the Giver of their gifts and give Him all glory. Their smiles, gospel music,laughter and tears, and the message of Jesus Christ will bless your day and give you hope for tomorrow. They will be leading the music for worship at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Steeleville the weekend of July 12 & 13, (Saturday evening at 6:00pm and Sunday morning at 9:00am). 4 Christ Our Savior Lutheran High School Host an International Student: Are you interested in sharing your love for God's children with a student from overseas? Consider hosting an international student for the school year. You provide the student with love, room and board. The student will provide his/own insurance, tuition, transportation to school and spending money. Host parents can specify the gender of the student they are willing to host and may give input to help select the specific student as well. Summer Volunteers: If you would like to help COS over the summer with on or off campus projects please call. Help is needed with parades, gardening and our rummage sale. COS Rummage Sale: The rummage sale will be held on July in the COS gym. Items can be brought to the school during office hours. Please call the school before dropping off your items. Assistance will be needed July to help with the rummage sale. We will be setting up tables July 14 at 8 pm. A limited number of tables will be available in the mezzanine for people who would like to rent a spot to sell their own items during the rummage sale. Reserve your tables by calling COS. First come first serve. Summer Office Hours: Someone will usually be in the office from 9:00-3:00, Monday through Thursday and on Fridays from 9:00 to noon. Summer hours will be in effect from June 2 to August 15. COS is seeking a part-time science teacher for the school year to teach Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Proverbs 15:1 Gentleness is especially appropriate if the person who wronged you is experiencing unusual stress. If so, the wrong done to you may be a symptom of a deeper problem. By responding in a gentle and compassionate manner, you may minister powerfully to the other person. Taken from The Peacemaker: A Biblical Guide to Resolving Personal Conflict by Ken Sande, Updated Edition (Grand Rapids, Baker Books, 2003) p. 86. Food for Thought A gentle answer turns away wrath and could possibly open up the door to peacemaking. Directly confronting an unusually stressed-out person rarely proves effective. The defenses go up and the door of conversation usually gets slammed shut. Consider how this happens in your own life. When you're unusually stressed, are you just wishing someone would come up and directly confront you? Even if you're the one in the wrong? Probably not. But is an unusually stressed-out person grateful when someone treats them with gentleness? Even if they're in the wrong? Almost always. The defenses are lowered and you just might be invited in; in where the deeper issue resides that may not have anything to do with you. So think about who you might be particularly gentle with this week, and pray that instead of stirring up anger, you might minister powerfully to that person. 5 St. Mark's Lutheran 140th Anniversary Pictorial Directory! Registration is underway! There are still plenty of openings, and we cannot make this directory a success without each and everyone of you. This includes all church members and also all school families including those incoming and those who have graduated. The dates available are 7/25 & 7/26 and 7/31, 8/1 & 8/2/14. We are participating in two programs: 1) Friends and Family - anyone and everyone is welcome, not just church or school, and everyone participating will receive one free 8x10 per session and each church and school family will receive a free directory. 2) Feed the Need - anyone bringing non-perishable food items to their photography session will receive a $5 off coupon and all items will be donated to our local food pantry. Bags are available in the Narthex. In addition, anyone registering online with an address will also receive another $10 coupon for additional savings. By taking advantage of these summer months, those choosing to order additional prints will receive 20% in addition to any coupons. Remember, there is no obligation to order additional prints. The link for registration can be found on our church website at and both St. Mark's Lutheran School and Church Facebook pages. Registration will also be available at church services. The directory will consist of advertisement pages. Anyone interested in including their biz card or sponsoring a 1/4 or half page can contact any of the committee members. Preparing for Worship The Fifth Sunday after Pentecost Proper 10 (13 July 2014) Isaiah 55:10-13; Romans 8:12-17; Matthew 13:1-9, The Preaching of the Word of Christ Bears the Good Fruits of Faith and Love As "the rain and the snow come down from heaven" and "water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout" (Is. 55:10), so the Word of God accomplishes the purpose for which He speaks it, granting joy and peace through the forgiveness of sins and producing the fruits of faith and love in those who are called by His name. Christ Jesus, the incarnate Word, has established the name of the Lord as "an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off" (Is. 55:13). He opens our ears to hear, our minds to understand and our hearts to believe His Word, lest the evil one come and snatch it away. He thus transforms our rocky hearts into good soil, which clings to the Gospel and "indeed bears fruit" (Matt. 13:23). He is Himself the firstfruits of all who "have received the Spirit of adoption as sons" (Rom. 8:15). Thus being "led by the Spirit of God," we are not afraid, but we cry out in faith to our Father in heaven (Rom. 8:14-15). For as we suffer with Christ, the beloved Son, so shall we "also be glorified with him" (Rom. 8:17). Page -9- Page -10-

The Board of Stewardship has placed ROOF FUND envelopes in the pews and at each church entrance. To date $28, has been collected for the school roof fund and the rest will be borrowed from the School Building Fund until donations are made to repay the loan. Prayerfully consider giving a special gift or gifts toward this Fund by using the envelopes. Electronic Giving/Offerings Electronic giving is a wonderful opportunity for these hectic summer months.
