6 Peace Meal from Peacemaker Ministries But I Don't SEE It! Although we can be sure that God is always working for our good and the good of others, even through trials and suffering, we will not always know exactly what that good is. In many cases his ultimate purposes will not be evident for a long time. And in some situations his ways and objectives are simply too profound for us to comprehend, at least until we see God face to face (see Rom. 11:33-36). This should not diminish our confidence in him or our willingness to obey him, however. As Deuteronomy 29:29 tells us, "The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law." This passage provides the key to dealing faithfully with painful and unjust situations. God may not tell us everything we want to know about the painful events of life, but he has already told us all we need to know. Therefore, instead of wasting time and energy trying to figure out things that are beyond our comprehension, we need to turn our attention to the promises and instructions that God has revealed to us through Scripture. Taken from The Peacemaker: A Biblical Guide to Resolving Personal Conflict by Ken Sande, Updated Edition (Grand Rapids, Baker Books, 2003) p Food for Thought Does believing that God works for your good in a conflict depend on your ability to see what that good is? What happens to your belief if you don't see that good for several weeks, months, years or not at all this side of heaven? In these situations, we must hold tight to the wealth of promises in Scripture and look closely at those passages that reveal the character of God. In times of greatest uncertainty, we must consciously choose to believe that God is working all things for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28). We may not understand what God is doing, but we can always trust in who God is and trust that he knows what he's accomplishing. St. Mark's Lutheran Pictorial Is on It's Way! 7 Do You Miss Singing with the Choir? The Contemporary Worship Team invites you to join them in singing to the Lord. Just give Kim Preuss a call at St. John's Lutheran Church & School Annual Chicken & Pork Sausage Dinner "All You Care to Eat" Sunday, June 1, 2014 Serving 11a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Air conditioned School Gym Corner of State Rt. 3 and 6th Street Red Bud, IL Tickets on sale from 10a.m. Carry outs available Adults ~ $8.00 Children (ages 6-12) ~ $4.00 Children 5 and under free Preparing for Worship The Seventh Sunday of Easter (1 June 2014) Acts 1:12-26; 1 Peter 4:12-19; 5:6-11; John 17:1-11 Our Lord Jesus Is with Us in the Upper Room of His Church on Earth On the night when He was betrayed, our Lord Jesus prayed for His apostles and His Church on earth. "The hour" had come when the Father would glorify His Son by the cross (John 17:1). Through the shedding of His blood, He would bring forgiveness for the sins of the world, and in His resurrection and ascension He would unite all Christians with the Father "that they may be one" with God (John 17:11). He manifested His name to the apostles and gave them the words of the Father to speak in His name. The apostolic witness of His cross and resurrection (Acts 1:21-22) gathers disciples together "with one accord" into the one Body of Christ (Acts 1:14). "Devoting themselves to prayer," they wait upon the Lord in "the upper room" (Acts 1:13-14), the place of His Holy Supper. Strengthened by the Gospel, Christians bear the cross of Christ in patience and peace, rejoicing to share in His suffering, in order that they "may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed" (1 Peter 4:13).
