A Message from the Regent As summer slowly comes to an end, fall is just around the corner. By the time you receive this newsletter, schools will have opened their doors and so begins another year for the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. New officers are in place and have attended training. With the help of all members working together, we will strive to make this a great and rewarding year. There will be many activities that all members will be able to participate in. Our Annual bazaar is the first activity that comes to mind. Be prepared to donate a cake for the cake spin or to volunteer your time to work in the cake spin booth or any other booth that may need help. Anything that helps out is greatly appreciated by all. Our next meeting is on the horizon. All are asked to bring items for our adoptive family. This is a very important project of the court. Come to the meeting prepared to ask questions and have some good ideas for the coming year. Hope to see all of you at our meeting. Your Sister in Christ, The phrase do not be afraid is written in the Bible 365 times. That s a daily reminder from God to live every day being fearless.

Many have heard me say that all members of CDA are leaders. All of you have been a leader in some way or another. Sometimes, your leadership talents and gifts have to be nurtured and brought to the surface. Others are born to be leaders. The greatest compliment one can receive is for someone to say you were my mentor or I learned from your example. Be kind, understanding, confident, and knowledgeable in what you do and those you lead will follow you. Ladies, look back over the years you have been a Catholic Daughter and recall the rewards and gifts you have received in CDA. I hope your membership has been a joy and the sisterhood you have in CDA is far greater than any other organization you may belong to. I know how blessed I am for my spiritual growth, my leadership skill development and for my many sisters that have crossed paths with me. By the time you read this, I will have ended my journey as a National Director. It has been an honor to serve OUR Lord and serve all of you. State News Message from State Regent, Rosie Stockwell I wish to thank you for the support of the goals and the approaches to success that I outline lined last year. We are starting a 2 nd year and have much work to do. Memorial scholarships were awarded to 41 students and the amount collected was $42,000. This was awesome. Two new courts were started in April and May. Thanks you for participating in the Circle of Love Program and reporting the success of the courts. Students and adults that the courts sponsored for the Education Contest did a wonderful job showcasing their talents. The Read Across America Program participation increased this year and your commitment to promoting literacy is greatly appreciated. Local News Adoptive Family Please bring any non-perishable food items for our adoptive family of six. Also, any monetary donations to the adoptive family account is much needed. Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner. Thank you for your support. By Margaret Broussard P A G E 2 S E P T E M B E R
3 Quarterly Prayer Intentions We are included in God's eternal plan. Each of us has been chosen in Christ, for some hidden purpose. Our prayerful intentions come before the God who knows and cares for each of us. Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, you have adopted us as your children. Help us to appreciate your many blessings, as we offer these prayers, through Christ our Lord. State News ~ Cont. For the gr owing Church on earth, that it may welcome and redeem the cultures and values of all people. For our pastors, especially Pope Francis and all the bishops, that they may continue to nourish us with sound doctrine. That the Eucharistic Church may express its communion with Christ by a constant ministry of charity and mercy. For the Chur ch, Peter's vessel, beset by the stor ms of our restless times. That our fear of dying may be replaced with tr ust in God's pr omise of salvation. For a deeper devotion to Mary in our organization. CDA National Convention Report By Nancy Zurek Our National Convention was held in July in Sioux Falls, SD. During the business meetings welcomes were made, vote cards and agenda was accepted and standing rules adopted. Many donations were presented and some bylaws were changed because of wording. There is a change in the National charities Operation Handclasp no longer exists and is replaced with the National Shrine in Washington. Also Texas is well represented at the national level...our new CDA National Regent Olga Samaniego is a Texan and one of our National Directors, Carolyn Malik is from Texas. Local News Apostolate Committee Thank you to the CDA members who helped with the Fort Bend Senior Care Center parties in June through August. We enjoyed serving refreshments and entertaining the residents with stories, songs and visits. The following ladies gave their time and talents: Dominga Cuellar, Eppie Kostak, Pat Schimara, Jeannette Hudec, Angie Pavlovsky, Josie Ferguson and Pat Haley. A special thanks goes out to Pat Haley for coordinating most of the entertaining programs throughout the year. If you have not helped with this project in the past, please consider signing up and reaping the rewards of an hour well spent. By Rose Pederson, Chairman P A G E 3 S E P T E M B E R
