I know I am being led by the Holy Spirit as taking on the Regent position. I said yes to God. We have so much going on in our lives that we at times lose our way on our path, our path to Heaven. As in Luke s reading, the disciples were discussing with each other everything that had happened. Being a Catholic Daughter member has been a very faith-enriching experience and I see the face of Jesus in each one of you. By individually stepping out of your comfort zone is a yes to God. Our community services, such as the Life Saver drive, salad luncheon, selling raffles at the Lenten fish fries, serving dinner to St. Albert students and families is a yes to God. But can we do more? Are we still discussing what is happening and not seeing Jesus? As long as we pray, offer our daily selves to God and support one another in our homes, work, community and as far as our arms can reach, we ll have hope in one day reaching our ultimate goal, Heaven. Recognize Jesus on your journey and invite Him to always walk with you. ~ Your Sister in Christ, Angie Shea I have been aware of CDA for a long time, my mother and grandmother are part of CDA Court #152 Joan of Arc in Mason City Iowa, which is where I grew up. My mom has been a member for 11 years and has been vice regent and regent. My grandma has been a member for about 45 years and has held several offices in her time. I lived in DSM for about 17 years and was active in my church but never joined CDA, though I thought of it many times. A couple years ago when we moved to Council Bluffs, and when I was looking at getting involved again, I thought again of joining CDA. I have only been a member since November 2013, but I want to be involved and be a part of the court, and by being an officer I think that will help me do this. I know a lot of the ladies in our court have been officers and paved the way for us, I feel it is my turn to step up and help make a difference. ~ Your Sister in Christ, Julie Marlow I have been a member of CDA for a year. This is a new venture for me, however, I have been in positions such as this in the past. I was executive secretary for the Iowa Speech Language Hearing association for 4 years. I have been a business owner for 30 years. I know I will enjoy keeping our CDA finances. And keeping us on the straight and narrow. ~ Your Sister in Christ, Shar Pekny Included in this issue: Schedule of events 1 State CDA information 4 Chaplain & regent note 2 National CDA information 5 Court information 3 Catholic faith information 6 Member information 3 Mission, motto, purpose 6

2 From Our Outgoing Court Regent: Sheila Graham Dear members, Thank you for allowing me to serve as your regent these past four years. It has been a time of great growth for me as well as our court. When the Lord calls you to do His work, you never really know what that might look like. For me it has looked like YOU! I have loved this time with you and will treasure it always. Continue to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance in your own lives and, with a waiting heart, listen for God s call to you. God is in us. God is with us. God is ours and we are His. In Unity and Charity, Sheila From Our District Deputy: Terri Dynek Dear members, Let s remember all are sisters who are going to the National Convention, lets pray that they have a safe trip. All the I have received looks like your new Regent Angie is getting her committees lined up. Please think and pray when she ask for help. I have been read Father Jim Schiko s book and I tried to write a short review of the book but it really hard to do when you haven t finished it. The one thing he repeats that we need to Trust God and be thankful for the things he has given us and to make time for God. From Our Court Chaplain: Father Chuck Kottas This column is a tribute to Sheila Graham as she ends her time as regent for the Catholic Daughters. It seems like it is more difficult to find people who are willing to serve in any volunteer organization and when you observe someone who has faithfully served in a volunteer capacity for many years it should bring a sense of thankfulness for all of us. I know that everyone of you are very grateful for Sheila s leadership and that you will thank her in your own special way. The one aspect of Sheila s leadership that should be an inspiration to all of us is that the Catholic Daughters have grown in numbers. In this day and age most volunteer organizations have declining membership. Under Sheila s leadership nineteen people have joined and become a part of the Catholic Daughters. This has to be one of the major accomplishments of for her leadership. It is very important that all Catholic organizations continue to grow and flourish and our Catholic Daughters have grown and continue to flourish. When I spoke with Sheila about the accomplishment that she was most proud of she said that establishing the Good Faith Award for the high school students was the accomplishment that she was most proud of. This award has been a blessing for many students in the Catholic Community of Council Bluffs. It is always so important acknowledge our young people to let them know that we appreciate their efforts to live a faith filled life. These are several of the accomplishments that Sheila achieved during her time as Regent. She created and maintained the St. Anthony court website. She designed and wrote the quarterly news letter. I know that all of us enjoyed the news letter that kept us informed of the happenings in Catholic Daughters. She started the biographical records for the members of the Catholic Daughters. She established the Gifts in Kind, monthly speakers, more committees for a wider reach of service and a program book for members and a procedure manual. One of the most important things that Sheila did was to push the ideal of spirituality as the core of the Court. These four years of Sheila s leadership have been a wonderful time of growth in membership but also in the presence of Jesus Christ. One of the things that I think about is that Sheila s parents Frank and Barbara worked for the Nonpareil as writers and reporters. I know they are very proud of the writing and the newsletter that Sheila wrote and edited. There are never enough words to thank someone for all the time and effort that they have given to make the world around them a better place, but these few words are attempt to say THANK YOU SHEILA for all of your hard work and dedication to make the Catholic Daughters such a wonderful presence of Jesus Christ. Thank you, Sheila, and may God continue to guide you and bless you. Thank you for a job fantastically done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We congratulate Angie Shea for being the new regent for the Catholic Daughters. I know you will be a good leader.

A chaplain must lead the court in spirituality and prayerfulness. We are very fortunate to have a priest as our chaplain who offers Mass for our court members each month before our meetings. This is a tremendous blessing for our court!! Thank you! 4 Iowa Catholic Daughters Iowa Regent: Rose Holschlag 502 W. Hamilton St. New Hampton, IA (954) From State Chaplain, Msgr. Carl Schmitt: St. Peter exhorted the early Church and all of us: "Let yourselves be built into a spiritual house. We are not called to build the house but to open ourselves to actions of the risen Jesus and his Holy Spirit. Jesus, himself, is the foundation and we are encouraged to actions that allow God to build us into the living stones of his home, his family, the Church. At the ascension, Jesus reminded us that even though he was ascending to the right hand of the Father, he would still be here among us. He quietly lives within us, with his family, coaxing us to invite him to build his home for his and our brothers and sisters with us as living stones of his temple where he can love and care for all of humanity and creation. The Father s love and will are then carried out in our partnership with God. The first Pentecost inspired, empowered, and sent forth the disciples of Jesus to everyone who would listen and/or choose to follow Jesus. The continuing comings of the Holy Spirit to willing disciples should inspire the same response by us as we offer our lives in service. The early disciples proclaimed the good news in word and in their lives of commitment to God s children, especially by joyfully living the beatitudes in communities. The ordinary time in the Church year can be strikingly extraordinary if we listen to Jesus and the Holy Spirit living with us and quietly, but persistently, asking us to believe and act as living stones where God can lovingly relate to all his children. Responding means to see Jesus and his concerns for all situations and people God sends into our lives. We, the Church, are privileged to be the new Jerusalem, built of living stones, a holy place where God can lovingly meet and bless all humanity and all of creation. From State Regent, Rose Holschlag: As I write this letter, many of us are basking in the wonderful memories of the good times showered on us by our children and grandchildren for Mother s Day. May those memories linger on for a very long time! We are all so blessed that our Lord has loaned us these beautiful children. What high expectations we must live up to in order to deserve this privilege of being a Mother and Grandmother. By now all of our Courts should have had the election of a new slate of officers to guide us for the upcoming two years. It is our responsibility as members to support these wonderful ladies who so generously have accepted this task and given of their talents to do so. We can do this by volunteering our time and talents to assist them. Encouraging attendance and joining them at all Catholic Daughter sponsored events like Anna Baxter Day on June 8 th, the National Convention in July and the workshops this fall will certainly help them and garner much togetherness. These events are much like our own family gatherings. We wouldn t want to miss our family get-togethers; neither should we miss out on our Catholic Daughters of the Americas family gatherings. May you all enjoy a happy, healthy and productive summer! I do also appreciate the sacrifice of time and work you have devoted to the Catholic Daughters and balancing the stresses of everyday life. I know it can feel harried at times. 6 Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Anthony # High School Avenue Council Bluffs, Iowa Our Court Patron: St. Anthony of Padua Feast Day: June 13 The moral life requires grace. The Catechism speaks of this in terms of life in Christ and the inner presence of the Holy Spirit, actively enlightening our moral compass and supplying the spiritual strength to do the right thing. The grace that comes to us from Christ in the Spirit is as essential as love and rules and, in fact, makes love and keeping the rules possible.
