1 To The United Church of Clinton If you are visiting with us today, we bid you a warm welcome to worship this morning. Our church is here for you; please let us know how we may serve you. If you'd like to know more about our church, receive our newsletter or request a visit from our pastor, please fill out a Welcome Card or call the Church Office at We are so glad you are here and hope you will come again. Our Lay Readert his morning is Janet Lamy. And our musician is Annette Siver. Flowers have been placed in the Sanctuary in honor and in memory of Love Ones by our Church Family. (see insert ) To Visitors of all ages... > We're glad you are here! > We have large print bulletins and individual sound ampliphiers. > Please take a moment to turn off phones and pagers. > You are welcome to an all-age fellowship after worship in Marquardt Hall (across from the sanctuary). Children are always welcome in worship. There are bags with crayons and coloring paper in bags under the bulletin table. Four and Under: The nursery is available downstairs during the service if needed. Children Pre-K and up will go to Faith Formation after the Children s Message! Folks new and returning to worship... > There are no assigned seats; sit where you feel most comfortable. > We celebrate the noises of small children; they remind us that we're alive! > Generally, we stand for the opening of the service and for singing. We put an * in front of the worship pieces we stand for. > We sing with joy and Spirit, without fear of judgement and invite you to do the same! > We share our prayers vulnerably and hold them all with care. > We pray with our eyes closed and open, our heads bowed and raised. > We pass the peace with song, hugs and handshakes, with nods and smiles. > We share communion with all who are willing especially children! > We invite everyone to share in worship by reading the words printed in bold.
2 Order of Worship RINGING of the BOWL / TIME of CENTERING Our service of worship begins with the Centering Music. We invite you to use this time in silent prayer and preparation for worship. CENTERING MUSIC WELCOME CALL to WORSHIP (based on Psalm 118: from the rear of the Sanctuary) Leader: The Lord is my strength and my song,. People: The Lord has become my salvation. Leader: There is a song of joy and victory in the tents of the righteous. People: The right hand of the Lord has triumphed! The right hand of the Lord is exalted! Leader: Because of the Lord's victory I will not die. People: Instead I will live and proclaim what God has done. Leader: Open to me the gates of the Temple. People: I will go in and give thanks to the Lord. Leader: I will give thanks to the Lord, for he has answered me. People: He has become my salvation. Leader: The stone the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all. People: The Lord has done this. It is marvellous in our eyes. Leader: This is the day of the Lord's victory. People: Let us rejoice and be glad in it. *HYMN of PRAISE SUPPORTING HUMAN JUSTICE #224 Christ Arose! You are invited to bring forward your gifts to support our outreach and mission opportunities. *PRAYER of the DAY Most gracious and loving God, you who have swallowed up death with the resurrection of Christ Jesus, fill us with new life with him. Pour your Holy Spirit upon us and give us hearts and minds fitting for your praise. You give us the joy of celebrating our Lord's resurrection. Give us also the joys of life in your service and bring us at last to the full joy of life eternal We ask these things in the name of your risen Son, Jesus the Christ. Amen *GLORIA PATRI (# 35 in Hymnal) Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.
3 PRAYERS of CONFESSION and RESTORATION On this morning of hallelujahs, we must confess how human we are, emptier of tombs. We haven't done any great evil, but we have failed to do good when we had the chance. We have not intentionally hurt anyone, nor have we offered healing to the broken. We easily accept the witness of the angel in the tomb, but find it difficult to share this good news with our friends and neighbors. Bring us new life, dazzling God. Where we are tired and stressed, give us the energy to serve your creation; transform our hardened hearts into fountains of grace; forgive us of all the damage we have done, and fill us with the joy of your Spirit. In the name of Jesus Christ, who gives us new life, we pray. WORDS of ASSURANCE PRAYERS and SUPPLICATIONS PASTORAL PRAYER SILENT PRAYER PRAYER RESPONSE (# 306 in Hymnal) Hear our prayer, O Lord, hear our prayer, O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us thy peace. Amen. SCRIPTURE READING Mark 16:1-8 PASTOR S MESSAGE MOMENT of SILENT REFLECTION INVITATION to GIVING PRESENTING our GIFTS to GOD *HYMN of DEDICATION #226 He Lives *SONG of PRAISE (#46 in Hymnal) Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; praise Him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. PRAYER of DEDICATION (in unison) O God, we come with our offerings in response to your love. With the new life in Christ, we give ourselves in service to you and to our brothers and sisters. Receive the work we do and the gifts that we bring, that they and we may prove to be a blessing to you and to the world that Christ came to save. We ask it in his name. Amen FLOWERING of the CROSS *HYMN Grace Alone (see insert) CELEBRATING the LORD S SUPPER We invite everyone who wishes to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior to receive the bread and the cup. All are welcome at God's table. It is our custom to come forward to receive Communion by Intinction. INVITATION to the TABLE *HYMN Let Us Break Bread Together #425 (Communion)
4 *PASSING the PEACE of CHRIST In the spirit of worship, and abiding in Christ's love, let us turn to one another singing "Peace Be With You", and offering signs of forgiveness. Please be seated when the music sounds. *THE GREAT THANKSGIVING PRAYER Pastor: May the God of holy words be with you. People: May the Meditation of our hearts be with you. Pastor: People of God, open yourselves to the One who is your rock. People: God fills us with foolishness, so we may be wise. Pastor: Children of God, sing songs of thanksgiving with all creation. People: Our voices are lifted to the One who makes all things. Pastor: With those who have great faith, with those who have very little, we sing our thanksgivings to you: People: Holy, holy, holy are you, God of mountaintops. The heavens join all creation to tell of your glory. Blessed is the One who is foolish for our sake. Pastor: As we remember his zeal for your heart, as we remember his passion for us, we would speak of that mystery we know as faith: People: Christ died, the rock which broke sin's power; Christ was raised, death conquered by our redeemer; Christ will return, desiring us more than anything in all creation. BLESSING the BREAD and the CUP SHARING the BREAD and the CUP *HYMN #308 Lord s Prayer ( Indian version) (The Sanctus is to be sung.) Holy, holy, holy Lord; God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Blest is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. *UNISON PRAYER of THANKSGIVING Gracious God - we give thanks to you for bread and for wine and for all that you touch and bless. Grant that we might always appreciate the mystery of your presence in the simple and ordinary things of life. As we have shared the body and blood of Christ Jesus, so help us to share the good news that he brings to all people. we proclaim our faith in You, in Him, and in the Holy Spirit. Amen.
