Sermon: "Terror, Amazement, and Fear" Mark 16: 1-6: When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb? When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side and they were alarmed. But he said to them, Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here.

2 HOLY WEEK WORSHIP SERVICES Maundy Thursday, March 29. HSCPC traditional soup and bread supper at 6:00 pm, followed by Worship Service at 7:00 pm. with Celebration of the Lord s Supper. If you need a ride for this supper and worship service, please call the Church office to make arrangements Easter Sunday, April 1. Two Worship Services, 8:30 am. and 10:30 am. There will be fellowship time between the services, including appropriate activities for children. To alleviate the usual crowd at the 10:30 service, you are encouraged to attend the 8:30 service if you don t mind getting up and ready a little earlier than usual. Special music will be provided by violinist Annalisa Taylor who is studying music at the Hobe Sound Bible College. Important notice concerning Communion - Communion is normally served on the first Sunday of each month. This year Easter Sunday falls on April 1st.. For a variety of reasons, Session has agreed that the celebration of the Lord s Supper at the Maundy Thursday service will be the only Communion served during Holy Week. There will be no Communion on Easter Sunday. Special Easter Offering: Each year a special Easter Offering is collected on Easter Sunday. This is in addition to, not in place of, the weekly offering. This year Session has designated that this special offering will go toward the worldwide One Great Hour of Sharing through the Presbytery of Tropical Florida. EASTER FLOWER CROSS We will be decorating the Flower Cross again for Easter this year. It was a huge success last year and so beautiful. Everyone is invited to bring flowers to transform the cross on the front lawn into a beautiful symbol of the Resurrection. Please bring your flowers on Easter

3 Sunday! The cross of Christ is the new tree of life and every cross now flowers with new life. Death has been defeated and Christ is risen. Alleluia! Easter Sunday Fellowship and Easter Bonnet Parade Children and adults alike are invited to wear their most festive Easter bonnets at the fellowship hour between services on Easter Sunday. Gather in the church courtyard at 9:30 to display your Easter finery and join in a colorful parade around the property, and then enjoy refreshments prepared and served by the church Deacons. HOLY WEEK ACTIVITIES 30 Minutes with God A LENTEN LUNCH-TIME CONCERT SERIES On each Wednesday during Lent, at noon, the Sanctuary has been open for prayer and meditation. Our Minister of Music, Brandon Glick, and some other local musicians have provided music selections appropriate to the Lenten Season. This music and meditation series began on Ash Wednesday with piano selections played by Brandon Glick, and guided meditation led by Dr. Verse. The March 28th, and final, Lenten Lunch-Time Concert featured two members of

4 the Gunter String Trio, which this week is a duo of violin and cello while the third member is out of town. Brooke Gunter (violin) and Brandon Gunter (cello) filled the Sanctuary with music so very appropriate for quiet mediation and reflection on the meaning of all the Holy Week activities and worship services. These talented young musicians have studied music most of their lives and have been accompanied by pianist Brandon Glick on many occasions. They play in the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony, and also in the Church orchestra at their church in Jupiter. ACTIVITIES ON PALM SUNDAY An early sunrise service was held oceanside at the home of Judy Doverspike. The sun appeared just as Dr. Verse was concluding his message, and it was a beautiful display of God s amazing creation.

5 Several early-birds delighted in the inspiring service and the beautiful sunrise. At the traditional 10:30 Palm Sunday s e r v ic e, Jennifer Kindberg and Sabrina Morse handed out palm fronds as worshippers entered the sanctuary. Afterward they joined the other youth for Sunday School activities.

6 LOOKING AHEAD LADIES LUNCHEON: The next ladies luncheon will be on Friday, April 6, 12:30 PM, at Outback Steakhouse 3101 S.E. Federal Hwy, Stuart. All female members and friends of our Church are welcome. If you plan to attend it is important that you make your reservation with Dorothea Wiley, HSCPC Winter/Spring Concert Series: There is one more concert coming up in this series. These concerts have been offered free of charge to our members and the surrounding community, with a free will offering received at the conclusion of each concert to help support the HSCPC concert program. Instrumental concert, featuring flute, oboe and piano. Tuesday, April 10 at 7:00pm in the Sanctuary. Amy Clark on flute, Carrie Fox on oboe and our own Brandon Glick on piano will join together to fill the church sanctuary with beautiful music.
