3 ST. PATRICK CHURCH Page 3 PORTLAND, MICHIGAN If Only Isaiah 35:1-6a, 10 We all have our own if onlys. If only my hands didn t shake. If only my knees were stronger. If only I weren t afraid. If only we had enough rain. If only I could see more clearly. If only I could hear as I used to. If only I didn t feel trapped. God understands. Even though life is not perfect, and even though our property and bodies deteriorate, God promises a restoration of all that is beautiful. The struggles of this life cause us to yearn for another, more glorious life. Isaiah prophesies a day when God s glory will come. Here is your God, Isaiah says. God comes to save you. These words brought hope to those in exile, a people powerless and poor. When Christians hear this text, we hear a promise that echoed all the way to the birth of Jesus. Jesus, whose name means savior, is coming, and all will be made new in him. ALTAR APPOINTMENTS December 17th & 18th 4:30 PM Randy Pung Fr. Larry King 7:30 AM Elizabeth Chislea Fr. Larry King Fr. Are you the one who will give guidance to the children in your life or must they look to TV sitcoms, films, videos and music lyrics for direction? Are you the one? Will you be the one? STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS Parish office will be closing at 11:45 on Tuesday December 20th Bulletin deadline for December 18 Sunday Bulletin is 10:00 AM Monday December 12. Bulletin Deadline for December 25 Sunday Bulletin is Thursday December 15 at 4 PM. You too must be patient. Make you hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand. JAMES 5:8 Patience is another one of those things many of us struggle with. We want things to go according to our plan and our schedule. Any change brings anxiety and fear. Through daily prayer we better align ourselves with God s will and His plan, which is far better than anything we can come up with on our own. Prayer of the Faithful That through daily prayer we gain patience and align ourselves with God and His plan for us. Miscellaneous Quotes by Pope Francis The first setting in which faith enlightens the human city is the family. June 29, 2013

The Only thing we have to fear is fear itself? No disrespect to President Roosevelt, butp Nonsense! There are plenty of things to fear! Jesus Himself tells us to fear the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell (Matthew 10:28) and we are told, "The fear of the Lord --that is wisdom (Job 28:28). In the passages above we are talking about two very different kinds of fear. But like it or not, it is clear- fear is part of our life experience. As believers in God s great love and providence, how do we respond to fear? What happens when healthy, natural fears begin to give way to excessive fear? How can we let Jesus calm the storms in our hearts so we can truly Be Still? Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the sea. Silence! He commanded. Be still! And the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm. Why are you so afraid? He asked. Do you still have no faith? The varsity volleyball team had a historic season advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time in school history. They won our first District title in 25 years and our first Regional title in school history. They brought home a trophy in every tournament they played in with one exception. They advanced to the championship game in four of their tournaments, bringing home two trophies on the season. As a Catholic School, we expect our student athletes to represent our school in a positive manner, bringing Christ to everything they do, and making us proud with their sportsmanship. Without a doubt, they have done so in what turned out to be our most successful fall sports season since They truly represented our school mission statement, We Pray! We Learn! We Achieve! Make Charitable Donations from your IRA IRA owners and beneficiaries who have reached age 70 ½ are permitted to make cash donations totaling up to $100,000 per individual IRA owner per year - $200,000 per year maximum on a joint return if both spouses make QCDs of $100,000 - to IRS-approved public charities directly out of their IRAs. These so-called Qualified Charitable Distributions, or QCDs, are federal-income-tax-free to you, but you get no itemized charitable write off on your Form That s okay because tax-free treatment of QCDs equates to an immediate 100% federal income tax deduction without having to worry about restrictions that can delay or reduce itemized charitable write-offs. It also reduces your adjusted gross income. QCDs have other tax advantages, too. Be careful to qualify for this special tax break, the funds must be transferred directly from your IRA to the charity. Please consult your tax advisor for details. CONGRATULATIONS! Mr. and Mrs. David Hickey On Your Wedding Day November 19, 2016 They are no longer two but one flesh. What God has joined together, let no man separate. Matt. 19:6
