The Child Jesus, Santo Nino, represents Jesus from His Nativity to age 12. We will celebrate this feast on Sunday, January 20 at the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Please bring your Santo Nino, Infant Jesus of Prague, and Santo Nino de Atocha images and place them on the altar. All children will receive special prayers and blessing at the end of Mass. Tuesday, January 1st is New Year s Day and the Solemnity of Mary. For these special occasions Mass will be offered at 9 a.m.

2 St. Francis Xavier From the Desk of Fr. Sebastian, Page Three Dear Friends, One proud mother was showing pictures of her children to a neighbor. How old are they? the neighbor asked. The lawyer is two, the doctor is four, and the priest is six, she replied. Parents have great dreams for their children. Parents have an enormous influence on the future of their children as well. I am largely indebted to my Mom for my priestly vocation. Every evening she prayed for vocations. Her prayer sowed the seed of vocation in my heart. This December 31st I will be 27 years in the priesthood. I am extremely grateful to my family for my vocation. Today is the feast of the Holy Family. Today we honor the family of Jesus, Joseph and Mary. The Family of Jesus is called the Holy Family, not the Perfect Family. It is impossible to have a perfect family because family consists of human beings who are imperfect. Our goal is to make our Family Holy. The key to making our Family Holy is found in Jesus answer to his parents. Jesus said: Should I not be about My Father s business? The eagerness to do our Father s Business makes our Family Holy. Mary did it. Joseph did it. The will to seek God s plan kept them together. Making God the foundation of our home and constantly seeking his will for each member makes a Family Holy. The Psalmist said: Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain (Psalm 127:1). God is the master home builder. God can help us to build our family. He knows what will work and what won t work. He can help fix whatever problem our family encounters. A story is told of Henry Ford. One day he and his wife were driving in the country and they came across a man whose Model T had broken down. He was under the hood trying to figure out what was wrong. Mr. Ford asked if he could take a look. And in just a few minutes, Mr. Ford had the Model T running. The owner was amazed and said, "I m impressed with your knowledge of Model T s, and I m amazed that you fixed it so easily." Mr. Ford replied, "I ought to be able to fix it because I m the one who designed it." That s how it is with God and the family. God says, "I can fix it because I designed it!" On this Feast of the Family, I want you to focus on one thing: your children. For they are the future. The future depends on the nature of their upbringing. Give them God and God will take care of them. Every Catholic home needs a crucifix, bible, image of Jesus and Mary, and family prayer. Instead of furnishing them with toys and pets, give them Jesus and Mary. If your children grow with Jesus values, they are safe, the parents are safe and society is safe. So create an environment where they develop a sense of sacredness, respect and reverence. May God bless you.
