2 Catching Fire From the Desk of Nina Wason, Chris Ed Director This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, the flaming arrival of the Holy Spirit among a group of believers-in- Jesus early one sunny morning in Jerusalem. You know the story, right? People were just hanging out, when suddenly there was a mighty rush of wind whoosh! and people s hair seemed to catch on fire!!! I ve seen something like that around the dinner table: we are just sitting there having a nice meal and fun conversation when one of our daughters comes out with a statement like, I think I ll get another tattoo Whoosh! The air is sucked out of the room and my hair is suddenly on fire.. Well, that is probably not exactly what Pentecost was like, because most everyone there got the message that God was at work, present in their midst, and Something Big was happening. After the violent noise and wild flames, there was an exchange.followers of Jesus began to talk and bystanders gathered to listen. The bystanders, people from all over the Mediterranean, heard these farm-girls and fishermen speaking fluently in the languages of the foreigners. It must have been very weird. Luke (in Acts 2) says the people listening were amazed, astonished, thunderstruck, in awe, bewildered. (various translations) They leaned in a little closer, and because they were curious and stopped to listen, they were treated to an encounter with God. This year, Pentecost falls on an American holiday weekend. Memorial Day is a time for us to reflect on the lives of those who gave the last, full measure of devotion for our country. It s an invitation to gather with friends and family and listen to all kinds of stories. Someone you know has a story to tell, a story where God is a main character, the Prime Mover. It might be a story of rescue or sacrifice or beauty or silence. It might come from an elder or a teen, a neighbor or the check-out clerk, or even you. Keep your ears open, lean in, and you just might be treated to an encounter with the living God. Take time to listen.and keep that fire extinguisher handy.
3 Country Fair Update It has been necessary to reduce the scope of the Country Fair to a one day event, due to the ongoing construction. Please join us in welcoming our surrounding neighbors to the Trinity Country Fair on Saturday, June 20 th from 8 am to 3 pm. Activities include: Attic Treasures Tent The Potting Shed New! Used Books Handcrafted Items by the Trinity Community Basket Raffle Baked Goods Vendors/Crafters Food - (Including hot dogs and our special Trinity Beef Barbecue!) Children s Activities This is a fun event where the Church community works together for a good cause. It a great way to get to know each other better! Look for the Volunteer signup sheets on the bulletin board. We will need volunteers for all the activities including sorting of the Attic Treasures, making handcrafted items, donating for the basket raffle, making baked goods. If you have perennial plants (indoor or out) that need splitting or thinning out, please consider donating them to the new potting shed. The tent is now up so drop off your Attic Treasure & Book Sale donations. Volunteer Sign Up Sheets have been posted on the Office Bulletin Board. Donations are also being sought to offset the cost of the purchasing food. Raffle Baskets for the Country Fair Day Please consider sponsoring a Basket for the Fair- previously we have had baskets containing movies and movie snacks; an Italian meal; Bath works basket; summertime skincare; coffee 'n' tea; kids' outdoor games; sundae fixins; doggie basket; chocolate basket- also men's baskets would be great (such as a beer basket)!! As long as we have the contents for the basket by May 31st - we of the Women's group (LIFT) will put it together for you. If you decide to put your basket together, please include a list of the contents with it so we can tape that list to the front of the basket. 5 Calling All Gardeners!!! We're having a brand new face at this year's Country Fair being held on June 20th. It's the Potting Shed and we need your unique and hardy plants. Perennial and house plants welcome. Here's a great way to thin out your flower beds and make room on you windowsills. Please do us a favor and label your plants so we can tell folks what they're buying. And of course, they need to be POTTED!! We will start collecting plants the weekend before the fair, June 13th and 14th. And don't forget to give them all a HEALTHY DRINK before you drop them off. Just look for the sign designating the plant drop off location, and thank you for getting your hands dirty and sharing your green thumb. LIFT Women s Group Announcements For our monthly fellowship meeting in June, LIFT is pleased to sponsor an hour of Tai Chi for all the ladies of Trinity! The class is no cost to attendees, and will be held Friday, June 5 at 7pm. We will practice Tai Chi outside, weather permitting. Please RSVP to Mary Setzer by June 1 if you would like to attend - friends are welcome! Tai Chi is a series of meditative movements, which work on strengthening ligaments, bones & tendons. It is based on mind-body coordination. Tai Chi provides a way to recognize and release built-up tension. All ages can benefit. Our class will be lead by Raj Singh, currently teaching at Yoga One in Trooper, PA. Thank you to all who purchased raffle tickets for our Mother's Day Raffle Basket. Joe Woodruff was the lucky winner! We appreciate your support, and the money raised from this raffle will help support programs for the women at Trinity and mission opportunities outside of Trinity's walls. There will be no Bible Study in June, due to the Country Fair. If you would like to make a basket donation for the Fair, please see Kelly Berg for more details.
