1 November 2018 Living Word Lutheran Church & Child Development Center Rooted Growing Experiencing Christ Dear family and friends of Living Word, What are you thankful to God for today? I m thankful for so many things! I thank God for salvation through His Son Jesus Christ first and foremost. There is nothing in this world that is more important or more worthy of thanks and praise to God than that. Then I am thankful for my wife and my children. I m thankful for my extended family. I m thankful for my home. I m thankful for my health (even though at the time I m writing this, I m not feeling well but this just points me to draw closer to God in prayer so I will thank Him even for my illnesses). I m thankful for my possessions. I m thankful for clothing. I m thankful for food and drink. I m thankful for the people God has surrounded my life with. I m thankful for those who are my friends. I m thankful to live in a country where I can vote and have a voice in how things happen. I m thankful for and and. I could go on for pages! What are you thankful to God for? King David wrote in Psalm 103:1-5 Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle s. As we enter November a month noted for being thankful, keep David s words above foremost in your hearts and your minds. Look at your life. Everything in it is a gift. It s all a gift. From God who loves you. The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:28 that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Rejoice and give thanks to the Lord! Joining Jesus on His Mission, Pastor Huesmann

2 ALL THE LITTLE CHILDREN: Child Development Center News November Theme: Give Thanks to the Lord Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1 God deserves our thankfulness and we should tell him we are thankful. Ten men came before Jesus with the hope of healing. All of them walked away cleansed but only one turned back to praise God and thank Jesus for his healing. Jesus makes it a point to call out the other nine to show the importance of our gratitude. Use this story to share with your child that God is faithful to provide our needs as well as extra blessings. He deserves to hear our thanksgiving often through praise and prayer. Consider making it a daily activity at the dinner table or while driving in the car to list three things for which they are thankful. Regularly expressing our thanks to the Father is one of our best weapons against all of life's battles. My door is always open, Kelly Patterson, Living Word CDC Administrator, Kelly.Patterson@mylivingword.com Important Dates Monday & Tuesday, Nov. 19 & 20 Thursday, Nov. 22 Friday, Nov. 23 & Monday, Nov. 26 Pictures CDC Closed WBSD closed, CDC Open Trunk-or-Treat What an awesome turn-out and fun night for our second annual Trunk-or-Treat! The weather and festive atmosphere couldn t have been better. Thank you to all the families that came and joined in the fun inside at the Kiddie Carnival and outside trunk-or-treating. One-year old teachers Miss Brooke and Miss Keelin hand out treats from their trunk. CDC Thanksgiving This month all classrooms in the Center will be taking time in their rooms to give thanks and praises to our generous God. Watch your child s classroom newsletter for information about what is being planned for your child. Save-the-Date: December 13 The CDC Children s Christmas program is scheduled for Thursday, December 13, at 6:15pm. Bring the whole family to enjoy The Shape of Christmas! Pirate Mr. Tim was a popular stop! 2

3 Bible studies ADULT BIBLE STUDY led by Pastor Huesmann Sundays, 10:40 am, The Crossing All are welcome as we explore God s Word and purpose for our lives. WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY Tuesdays, 8:45-10:30 am, starts November 6 It seems as if everyone is in pursuit of happiness. But what makes us happy? And why is happiness easy to find, but hard to keep? The next Women s Bible Study series, What Makes You Happy, by pastor and author Andy Stanley of North Point Ministries, explores those questions from a Christian perspective. The series reveals three things all happy people have in common and describes how they can be realities for you as well. All ladies are welcome! Anything shared is held in strict confidence. Free babysitting provided. MEN S BIBLE STUDY Mondays, 7:00 pm, November 12 Topic: The Beatitudes Dear Living Word Family & Friends, Thank you to all who so graciously and generously honored my family and me last week for Pastor Appreciation Month! Your many warm hugs, kind words and generous gifts made us feel very loved and supported! We are so thankful for you, and for our partnership in the Gospel, and pray that God would bless you in every way. "A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed." - Proverbs 11:25 You have refreshed us with your love and care. Again, we thank God for all of you! Pastor, Gretchen, and family Sharing Our Bounty Phase II For the holiday season, we are encouraging donations for Sharing our Bounty Phase II Grocery Gift Cards, distributed at Thanksgiving, Christmas Food and Easter. Grocery card donations can be made throughout the year and are counted as an offering on your annual giving statements. Offering Pantry envelopes for this ministry are available at the usher station. Envelopes with Ministry cash or check can be dropped in the CDC Tuition Box at the front desk. If you write a check, please put "Sharing Our Bounty" on the memo line. To suggest someone who could benefit from this extra help, speak with Pastor Huesmann. Thank you to everyone who has donated items to Sharing Our Bounty. Through your support and generosity, our cupboards are full and the racks have a steady supply of pre-packaged boxes available for those in need no pre-approval needed! In addition to donting everyday items such as canned goods, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, and baking mixes, please consider donating instant mashed potatoes, stuffing mixes, canned yams, pie crusts, evaporated milk, and pie fillings for holiday meals. and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness and your night will become like the noonday. 4 Church Council The next Council meeting is : 6:30 pm, Monday, Nov. 19 Living Word Church Council Mike Kubczak, Chair Jeff Bagley, Vice Chair Nancy Plier, Treasurer Deb Derge, Secretary Jerry Gellert Jessi Smedal (Vacant Position) Minutes from all Council meetings (held six times a year) are available for review by request any time at the Church Office. If any member of Living Word Church has a proposed agenda item, contact Pastor Huesmann. 55+ Ageless Wonders: Save-the-Date Looking Ahead...We will be celebrating our Christmas get together on Sunday, January 13, With December being such a busy time, we thought a later date might allow the majority us to share stress-free holiday time together. Gail Chrisler has graciously offered her condominium association clubhouse for our party. Watch for details in upcoming bulletins and newsletters. Looking Back...There were 16 of us who enjoyed the chilly Horicon Marsh autumn boat tour in October. Even though there were not many bird or animal sightings, our guide was very informative and we enjoyed a leisurely, hour -long pontoon boat ride through the display of fall colors. After, we enjoyed a lovely meal and good conversation at Ginger s Hideaway. Some of us look forward to a return trip to Horicon Marsh in spring. Living Word Lutheran High School Notes Congratulations to the 2018 Timberwolves football and volleyball teams! The football team earned a 7-3 season and qualified as a playoff contender in the 2018 state championships. The volleyball team is among the final four in the WIAAWI Division 3 State Volleyball Tournament, with a 29-6 overall record, a 7-1 record in their conference. Fall Play LWLHS will be presenting And Then There Were None, Agatha Christie s acclaimed mystery masterpiece on Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10 at 7:00 pm.
