2 New Adult Forum Series God: The Original Financial Advisor Begins Sunday, November 8th - 10:15 am Did you know? The Bible talks about money (financial matters) more than most spiritual disciplines (yes money management is a spiritual discipline) The Bible addresses real world financial tools such as asset diversification. One Wall Street analyst openly claims that his secret to investing is woven within the Bible. God expects us to use money as we would any other resource. HE has provided us with money. (Wait! God provides us money? We ll explain.) Financial Fitness is a five part small group Adult Forum starting, Sunday, November 8, to develop an understanding of what the Bible teaches us regarding money. This is not a stewardship ask course. Money dominates many of our lives. The Bible provides rea world direction and teaches us that money management (stewardship of a resource) is a spiritual discipline. Come, November 8 to the Best Fitness Class. 3 Fall Congregational Meeting Trinity s Fall Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, October 25 at 10:15 am. Agenda items include: 1. Election of new church council members & alternates. Church Council elections are a very important as these members are responsible for major decision making of the church. 2. Building update. Church Council Nominee Bios Susan Chambers Susan and her family have been members of Trinity for 18 years serving on church council for 9 of those years and as president of council for 6 years. Susan teaches the faith as an Adult Forum teacher and taught confirmation for 9 years. Susan also serves as ministry captain for our Christmas Angel project. Susan has over 25 years of Human Resources leadership experience in the healthcare, aerospace, and manufacturing sectors. Susan and her husband, Bob, live in Collegeville and have three grown daughters: Emily Levy, Sara Chambers, and Megan Chambers. Most recently she became a grandmother to Zander Gage Levy. Rick Cole Rick and wife, Christine have been members at Trinity for 25 years. In those 25 years Rick has served as a Church Council member and is a past President of Church Council. Rick is a past chair of the Finance Committee, co-chair of the building capital campaign. Rick currently is the Captain of the Greater Gift Team, Coordinator of the 9 am Eucharistic Ministry volunteers, and is a head usher. He is also a member of the sanctuary s infamous back row. Rick & Christine have 3 children, Glenn, Brian and Lauren. Rick recently retired after 48 years in the Rehabilitation & Medical Equipment industry. Dan Ditzler Dan has been serving as an alternate on Church Council since He heads the Walk for Cancer social ministry and helps out on various others, including Saturday night dinners for the homeless in Norristown and the Ronald McDonald House dinners. His original involvement with Trinity was as a preschool parent. He joined Trinity in 2009 with family members (Drina, Peter, and Caroline), coming from St. Andrew s in Audubon, where he served on their council as well. Dan is President and Creative Director of Newton Associates, a marketing/advertising/pr agency in Plymouth Meeting. He holds a B.A. in English from Susquehanna University. 4 Church Council Nominee Bios Bob Graves Bob, his wife Trish, and their son Brian reside in East Norriton and joined the Trinity community in Bob is a recent retiree from Verizon Communications where he was Director Government Relations. Bob previously served for six years on Trinity church council, was an officer for five years, including serving as council president. Post council, Bob served as chair of the finance team for five years and continues to be a member of the finance team taking a lead on stewardship issues. Bob served on the capital campaign team responsible for building Guiser Hall and recently served as chair for the capital campaign to build our new sanctuary. Bob is currently active in service at the Norristown Soup Kitchen, is a member of the SERVV Greater Gift team, and is a Eucharistic Minister. In the past Bob has been an usher, taught youth Sunday school, and led adult forum (Bob will again be leading in adult forum this fall). Sharon Stout Sharon has been a member of Trinity since 2010, and is currently involved in attending and teaching Adult Forum and Alpha, is a member of the Greater Gifts and Coffee Hour ministries, and is involved with the new member ministry. Sharon grew up on a farm in rural Iowa, and received a degree in Microbiology from the University of Iowa. She worked in research for several years, and then pursued an 18 year sales career in medical diagnostic sales. Since moving to Lansdale, she has served as HMS (Home Management Specialist) for her husband, Jay, and sons, Ryan (25) and Caleb (16). Sharon has had the privilege of being a member of several different churches: Catholic churches during her childhood and university years, Lutheran churches in Lincoln, NE and Ivoryton, CT, and an international nondenominational church in Switzerland. She has been involved in various capacities in those churches including Bible study, soup kitchen, hospitality and coffee hour, various small groups, Youth Group leader, Sunday School teacher, and church council (6 years). What makes Trinity special to Sharon? Trinity s focus on teaching God s word, and living God s word in service to others both inside and outside the church. 5 Getting It From the Desk of Nina Wason, Chris Ed Director Sometimes, Leo is so incredibly dense. I know he is just a dog, but really, after 11 years of watching me mow the lawn, you d think he would know enough not to lie in the path of the mower. Yet, every single time I mow, he, sooner or later, plops himself down directly in my way and won t move until I shoo him off. Even then, when he does move, he inevitably goes to a spot I will get to on my next pass. Never going towards what I ve already cut because, clearly, he just doesn t get the whole lawn-mowing drill. Jesus disciples have a similar problem: they are often pretty obtuse. In this week s passage from Mark 10 we see James and John showing off their inability to fully grasp the kind of life they supposed to lead. Jesus has been talking (again) about things no one likes to hear about approaching doom, condemnation, mocking, flogging, killing. Avoiding all that the way I avoid looking at a stack of bills in the mail, James and John change the subject: Let s talk about the seating arrangements at the victory party! Imagine Jesus shaking his head, saying, You really don t get it, do you? The Rabbi often speaks more about the coming suffering, less about basking in glory. Why? Not to trot out his ability to prophesy (let me show you my powers of prediction!), but to remind them and us of what being his follower involves: citizens of the kingdom should look more like household servants than power brokers. We are walking around not so the world can appreciate us, but so that we can care for the world. We shouldn t assume we have arrived; we look and listen and serve. Winner of the 2015 Templeton Prize, Jean Vanier (see puts it like this in his book, Becoming Human: So the one-way street, where those on top tell those at the bottom what to do, what to think, and how to be, becomes a two-way street, where we listen to what they, the outsiders, the strangers have to say and we accept what they have to give, that is, a simpler and more profound understanding of what it means to be truly human. (p.84) One thing I love about the people of Trinity is our servant hearts. This Sunday you will see many folks making beautiful liturgy happen in our new sanctuary, providing delicious treats between masses, teaching and sharing the faith, preparing a wonderful afternoon of musical celebration, and cleaning up afterwards for the pre-schoolers on Monday morning. Well, you will see only some of them; most, like P.G. Wodehouse s famous valet Jeeves, will work below the radar, shimmering in and out of rooms undetected and unheralded, helping others to enjoy the day fully. That is getting it. And Jesus will be nodding his head.

6 Base Mission Support Thank You for Your Generosity! As of the end of the third quarter, we are running about 2% below budget target for our Base Mission weekly envelope giving (excludes an estate gift). Total contributions from the congregation to support our base mission ended the third quarter at $257,928. In your mailbox today you should find your individual giving statement through the end of the third quarter. As we experience our first worship service in our new sanctuary, please remember that we undertook this campus expansion to prepare a place of worship for the next generation of disciples. This came at a cost as we increased our debt level and operational costs. Please remember this reality as you prayerfully consider your fourth quarter giving. Remember This is our mission. We need to continue to job we started. Please review your statement and let the finance team know should you have any questions or concerns. Another Way of Supporting Trinity: Fairview Village Community Center (FVCC) Does your employer match your donation to a charity, but exclude religious organizations? If so, you and your company can donate funds to the Fairview Village Community Center (FVCC), a little-known non-profit arm of our church. Through that organization, we allow and encourage appropriate community groups to utilize our campus. Recent users have included the Methacton lacrosse organization, a square dancing group club, and an astronomers club. We hope to attract more users once our new Parish hall is fully functional. So if your company has a matching program, consider a donation to the FVCC. It s listed on the IRS web site of 501(c)3 organizations under the name of Fairview Village Community Center.
