We invite you to bring the names of your loved ones who were baptized during this past year, since last All Saints Sunday, as well as those dear to you who have died. This Sunday, there are a few ways that you can submit those names. The journal will be located on the baptismal font and there will be a bulletin insert for you to fill out. Please enter the names of your loved ones on the appropriate pages after the names we have already entered of members of the congregation whose baptisms were held here, and members of the parish who died this year. You can also the names to Kim Travetti at kimtravetti@trinityfairview.com. 2 Helping Hands Save the Date Please mark your calendars for March 16, 2019! This year we are planning a Saint Paddy s Quizzo Night aka table trivia. It will be a Beef and BYOB followed by a fun competition of trivia geared for all ages. Helping Hands is a Trinity Ministry which responds to those within our community in need financially due to life events. We are looking for a committee to help plan this event, If you can give a Helping Hand please Janet Fontaine at fntn4944@gmail.com. TLC On Call Schedule If you are in need of pastoral care on either a Friday or Saturday (Pastor Skyle s days off), a member of TLC is always on call. Below you will find the on-call list for this week. Friday, October 26-Saturday, October 27 - Alma Nowmos Council Officer Election Results At the first meeting of the new council on Tuesday office elections were held. The officers serving for the next year are: Ann Dungan - President Marilou Doughty - Vice President Lynn Chialastri - Secretary Mike Martorelli - Appointed by council as Treasurer Help Wanted for Food Bank Deliveries There is a team that takes the food donations Trinity provides each month and delivers them to the Daily Bread Food Bank in Collegeville. We currently have the Florigs, the Biggars, Jennifer depaulis and myself doing the deliveries. We are in need of two additional teams (or individuals) for the 2019 calendar year. This would allow each group to make a delivery for two of the months of the year. If you have any interest please let me know so Tom can begin to schedule for the next season. Rick Cole

3 Pipe Dreams Thanksgiving Bread Sale Our Pipe Dreams Thanksgiving Bread Sale is approaching quickly. This year we plan to offer three breads, Amish Friendship, Pumpkin Spice & Banana.. We will be taking orders for the breads between services on October 28, November 4 & November 11. Each loaf is priced at $7.50. We are also offering two additional items a Dried Soup Mix and a Chocolate Cookie Mix, both with complete instructions. The cost per jar is $10.00 and will be available for purchase on Sunday, November 18. These would make an excellent holiday gift. THANK YOU for your support of this endeavor. Each sale will move us one step closer to getting our Moeller Pipe Organ placed in our new sanctuary. Any questions, contact Sid Harris. Come and share your views and ideas around the table. Topics for this session are: Roof replacement and other campus upgrades. Youth and Family Ministry position and ways to fund it. 4 Word From the Desk of Nina Wason Those of you who know my husband, Paul, might describe him as a man of few words, and in one sense that is quite correct. He isn t a particularly chatty person - I don t think anyone ever feels like they can t get a word in edgewise when they are talking with him. But in another sense, he is a man of many words his active vocabulary (as they say in the education world) is way bigger than average. When we were first dating, I used to give him grief for using words like ubiquitous in normal conversation. Please! I d say, Can we keep words to three syllables when we re in mixed company? Big words can be so off-putting! So when I was reading through this week s lectionary texts (uh oh lectionary = 4 syllables!) the big words jumped out at me. Only they aren t big in the polysyllabic (5!) sense. They are big with meaning. Weighty. Rich. Offering a range of opportunity to the perspicacious reader. (Sorry. I ve been waiting my whole life to use that word in a sentence). Take a look: The prophet Jeremiah gives us a simple review of the way God wants to relate to his people with familiar yet portentous words like covenant, heart, forgive. Romans (yes, this is Reformation Sunday!) is not an easy-read because Paul s idea of sentence structure would not win him any prizes in college application essays. Add to that loaded words like: law, sin, justify, righteousness, grace, redemption, atonement, faith, works. Big meaning right there, though none requiring more than three syllables. In the gospel, Jesus breaks it down to two of the biggest one-syllable words we know: the truth, will make you free. When we hear these words in their context on Sunday morning, it will be easy, at least for me, to get a little lost in them partly because they are all simple every-day words (well, maybe we don t hear the word sin every day, but we all know it when we see it?), and partly because they are indeed so weighty that we hardly have time to let the meaning of one sink in before the next one comes at us. What to do? Well, maybe we can find some time and space over the next couple of days to let these words speak. To ask ourselves some questions what is God s Covenant with us? What is the Law? Are they related? What does it mean to have faith? Where does it come from? What do I have faith in? What about this business of works? (or deeds ) and what is the relationship between faith and works? What exactly does forgiveness entail between God and me, between others and me? Truth? What is truth? What do I believe is absolutely, always true? How does that make me free? Free to do what? Free from what? Short words, but big ones, and ubiquitous in our readings this week. Let s be predisposed to a vigorous exertion of all our theological perspicacity, OK?
