Thank you to Dana Paluk and Emily Ryner for their leadership in planning an incredible evening for our school community. God blessed us with great fellowship and generosity. Although we do not have the final fundraising total, we know God s provision for our school will allow us to make steps towards our school s mission. Congratulations to the following Cash Raffle winners: $500 Paul Gardner $1,000 Cynthia Richards $1,000 Michael Cranston $4,000 Brian and Trevor Birks God has blessed us with time next week to stop and give thanks to Him. We thank Him for the countless blessings in our life, the blessing of eternal life, the blessing of the forgiveness of sins, the blessing of the thanksgiving sacrifice of the Eucharist. The Scriptures tell us (hundreds of times, literally) how we need to give thanks to the Lord. Let us approach Thanksgiving with a heart of gratitude. On behalf of the school staff, may God bless your week together and Happy Thanksgiving to your family. Our staff is thankful for the opportunity to serve you. 3 Lighting the Flame We are excited to be offering youth alpha at our school and parish.i will be co-leading the youth alpha along with Chris Epplett from the parish. It will take place on Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:15 in the upper room of the church, starting January 13th. What is the Alpha Youth Series? The Alpha Youth Series is a brand new interactive series of thirteen short episodes designed to help engage young people in conversations about faith, life and God. The series features stories from all around the globe, from a wide variety of different contexts and cultures. In each session you eat food, watch a talk, and discuss questions in small groups. Alpha begins with a meal. Food has a way of bringing people together and building community. The food will be amazing! The talks tackle core questions about life and faith from a Christian perspective. There are 9 weekly episodes and 4 episodes for the Alpha Weekend/Day. Each episode averages 23 minutes in length. The videos are only the starting point the real impact happens in the small group discussions and in the intentional moments for prayer along the way. Families: A few weeks ago, the Religious Formation office mailed out "Year-Before" letters to all 1st and 5th grade families, introducing them to Sacramental Preparation and informing them of what to expect this and next year. If you did not receive a letter, please contact Sacramental Coordinator, Ann Grobbel. See below for contact information. Registration links to the year-before retreats were ed on Monday, November 12th. If you had trouble with the link or did not receive the , please let Ann Grobbel know. More information about the retreats will come your way as we approach the dates. LOOKING AHEAD: 6th-8th Gr.: Saturday, December 8th: Confirmation Candidate & Sponsor Day of Reflection takes place in the OLGC Church social hall at 12:00-5:00 (time includes 4:00 Mass). There is no registration required for this event. Light refreshments will be served. This event is for 6th-8th grade students being confirmed on June 7, nd Gr: Please be sure to mark your calendars. January 12th, 9:30-12:00 or 1:00-3:30 in the social hall: First Reconciliation retreats. Please register for a retreat. January 25th, 6:30 pm in the church: Family First Reconciliation service for last names beginning with A-L. Thank you! The 8th grade leaders ADVENT CONCERT Monday, December 17th 6:00pm at OLGC CHURCH Featuring all students preschool-6th grade and also our Choir! Our PVC and EDGE team are graciously hosting a reception in the social hall following the concert. All are welcome! Their voices will truly put you in the Christmas spirit!

4 This week we recognize a great group of students who have shown leadership this November. Nolan L., Mary H., Maggie A., Julius H., Ania E., Kylie M., and Zac G. Three students have shown amazing participation in music class by showing their passion for singing and having a positive attitude. Two students showed leadership within the classroom amongst their peers--one student even gave up the prized wobble stool, so that another student could have a turn! One student has shown respectful behavior in the lunchroom continuously. Lastly, one student has continued to show leadership at divisional masses by participating fully and being a good role model to his peers. Keep showing those 7 Habits kids! S.T.E.M. ARRIVES AT OLGC Science Technology Engineering Math has a new face at OLGC. A team of four 6th Graders (Nico, Ethan, Mateo, and Will) are led by Mr. Ricardo Lung and Mr. George Andraos. The boys have been meeting weekly at the Lung home for the past few months to prepare for the First Lego League (FLL) Robotics competition on Saturday, November 17th in South Lyon. This year s theme is Into Orbit with a focus on the long-term effects on the human body in zero gravity. The OLGC Brick Masters team will be judged on 3 key areas: 1. Core Values: teamwork, time management and appreciation of each other s contributions 2. Robot Design: robot mechanics, coding, and the ability to clearly define and describe the team s game strategy 3. Project: to come up with a creative solution to an existing problem that astronauts experience by being in zero gravity for an extended period of time, message delivery and organization of the presentation It is for the Project part that the team had the privilege of facetiming with Julie Bellerose, Doctor of Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, and currently at the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab working on the Japanese HYABUSA2 mission. They had the opportunity to present their solution to her, ask her questions, and receive feedback. This has certainly been a learning experience for the OLGC Brick Masters and we wish them the best of luck. Catholic Vantage Financial Federal Credit Union is no longer able to provide tuition management for our school starting with the 2019/2020 school year. OLGC School will be using a new Tuition Management Company. FACTS is used by many schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit, locally and nation-wide. The payment options will be the same as with Catholic Vantage, (monthly, biweekly, pay in full) but will also include credit card payment. Each family will go into the FACTS website and register for a payment plan. The tuition deposit will be due upon registering. ($200 per child) Reregistration letters will go out to our returning families on January 14. It will include the instructions on how to go to the FACTS website and set up the registration.

5 The All Saints Festival was a fantastic success! Congratulations to all of our hard-working 6th grade students who put on a brilliant and fun show. A special thank you to all the parents who helped out behind the scenes and donated the candy. The games were so clever and a good time was had by all. Looking forward to next year!
