4 A THANK YOU FROM MSGR. BEHL: I am grateful to you and your fellow parishioners for your kindness on World Mission Sunday. St. John Vianney Church s offering of $ will be used to help the Church s missionaries be the heart, hands and the voice of Christ to the suffering poor during May our Lord give to you, your families, and your parish as you have given to others so that His Good News may be offered worldwide. BLOOD DRIVE THANKYOU The Knights of Columbus Council 6571 of Colonia is pleased to announce that the recent Blood Mobile Drive, which was held at SJV on November 4, was a success. The Central Blood Bank of NJ was hoping to get at least 30 donations of blood, and our parish gave 39 pints of blood! Obviously, the recent tragic effects from Hurricane Sandy influenced more than enough people to show their concern. Your generosity will touch the lives of those in need. Thanks and God Bless!" 2012 Bishop s Annual Appeal Christ Alive in His People Metuchen, a native American word for fire, encapsulates the mission of the Office of Evangelization, which is to spread the fire of God s love to all people. Jesus Himself said that He had come to cast fire upon the earth and wished that it were already blazing (Luke 12:49). So do we! The role of this office is to continue the work He entrusted to the Church 2000 years ago but with newness in terms of the methods, ardor and expressions used. Thanks to your gift to the Bishop s Annual Appeal, the Office of Evangelization continues to offer Bible study courses and parish evangelization team formation in both English and Spanish. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! Catholic Charities Multi-Services Program, located at 271 Smith Street, has received funds to provide assistance to eligible individuals and families who are at risk of becoming homeless or who are experiencing homelessness and need temporary assistance to obtain housing. We need volunteers to help assist in screening individuals on the phone to determine service needs as well as data input to document services provided. Training will be provided. If you are able to offer time, please call Nicole Fernandez at or nfernandez@ccdom.org. Make a Personal Pastoral Plan to Celebrate the Year of Faith What does the Year of Faith mean to Catholic stewards? In his apostolic letter announcing the Year of Faith, Pope Benedict XVI stressed three important areas in our life of faith. He exhorted us: 1) to better understand our faith; 2) to take some action to give witness to our faith; and 3) to share our faith with others. Here are some questions to guide you in these three areas: 1. Faith seeks truth. What am I to learn about my faith in the God of Jesus Christ? Read the Bible. One simple plan is to prayerfully reach each days lectionary readings which can be found online at Study the Catholic catechism and have it on hand to answer questions. Intentionally choose several books on Catholic life and spirituality this year. 2. Faith leads to Action. What action will witness to my commitment to Christ? Pray We live our faith more fully by cultivating a more disciplined prayer life. Give more generously to the Church, its ministries and related charities. Exchange one hour of time spent in front of the TV or computer each with an hour spent with others who are in need of your unique gifts. 3. Faith is not a private affair. With whom should I share my faith in Christ? Attend Mass more often, and bring someone with you. Join or form a bible study group. Talk to a family member, friend or coworker about your faith. SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL When we pray the Our Father, we ask God to Give us this day our daily bread. The majority of us receive sufficient food; others do not. We can be our Father s instrument for providing bread to the needy by placing a donation in the Poor Box. The Poor Boxes are bread boxes of the poor. Please continue to help the Society in its mission to assist the poor and needy. Thank you for your support.
5 PRO LIFE The next meeting will be NOVEMBER 27th at 7 PM in the church meeting room. Our Maternity Collection is now EVERY WEEKEND. Our donation Box and Crib can be found in the front foyer all the time. Please continue to remember the children and families who are helped with your donations. If you have larger items, please call Carolyn at to arrange for pickup. Thank you for your continued generosity. Contact the Gianna Catholic Healthcare Center at St. Peter s Hospital or YOUTH MINISTRY Thank you for your hurricane Sandy contributions to "Stuff The Bus" this past week, there will be more service opportunities soon. I would like to thank the parents for their time last Sunday and for all of their amazing contributions toward the Christmas retreat weekend.
