6 The Whole World is Waiting for Love An Advent/Christmas Cantata Christmas Mass Schedule Open your hearts and ears to the sounds of our salvation story THIS Tuesday, December 18 at 7:00pm! The SSM Music Ministry proudly presents their annual Christmas concert, "Waiting for Love." The notes are all learned, the staging all set; the only thing needed is an audience to share it with! So please, won't you join us? If you plan on attending, please bring a dozen or so cookies to share with fellow parishioners afterwards! Both the Children and Adult Choirs have worked feverishly to prepare this for you! We look forward to seeing you there! Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24 3:00pm (Children) 6:00pm 9:00pm 11:59pm (Midnight Mass) Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25 7:30am 10:00am Youth Confirmation Date The diocese released our confirmation date, it is set for Tuesday, May 14 at 7:00pm. Confirmation this year will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Chesapeake, VA. We will also be joined by church of the Holy Apostles and Church of the Holy Spirit. If you have any questions concerning confirmation please contact Ashley at ashley@ssmrcc.org. Indoor Christmas Tree Lot The Faux Indoor Christmas Tree Lot was a lot of fun and a HUGE success! We d like to thank everyone that participated! We d also like to extend our gratitude for your extreme generosity! We were able to raise over $3000! Thank you again! 7 Advent and Christmas Decorating 2018 Merry Christmas! It s time for decorating! Mark your calendars, and come be a part of the magical transformation of the Commons and Sanctuary for our Advent and Christmas Celebrations. ANY help is welcomed on the work days listed below, even if you can spare an hour, please come. All are welcome! December 17 - Monday: 9:30am (Note time for start. Sanctuary) The arch over the Altar window, Altar and alcove trees, and greenery at each window and choir wall. The Christmas program is Tuesday night! December 18 - Tuesday: 9:00am (Sanctuary and Commons) Finish anything required in the Sanctuary before tonight s Christmas program. The 12 foot tree in the Commons goes up and we ll decorate. Outdoor portico decorating may be started. The date for this remains flexible, depending on the weather forecast and timing. December 19 - Wednesday: 9:00am (Room 6) Ironing Day. Bring your iron! We ll have 3 ironing boards on hand but you may bring your own if you like. December 20 - Thursday: 9:00am (Room 3) Luminaries: Check/replace our LED candle batteries. A good assembly line makes this go fast. This could be cancelled if there is a definite weather issue for Christmas Eve but, we re praying for a lovely night so the church can Glow. December 21 - Friday: 9:00am (Commons) Poinsettia delivery day. They usually arrive around 10:00am, but it s not an exact science! They will have to be unwrapped and placed in their gold sleeves. We ll place the ones designated for the Commons, and the rest will be stored in Room 3 until Monday, December 24 in the morning. December 24 -Monday: 7:00am (Sanctuary) Christmas Eve day, due to the Liturgical Calendar this year, we can t transform the church any earlier. We ll start very early. I d like to be done before Noon. We ll change the Sanctuary and Commons to gold and white, altar display, floral placement, change advent wreath candles and décor, banner and flag hanging. We ll also need to place the luminaries but we ll do this last. Families who may want to help do this with their children, please be at the church at 11:00am. December 25 -Tuesday Merry Christmas! Not a work day! Parishioners coming to church for the morning Masses are asked to PLEASE pick up as many luminary bags as you can carry on your way in to church and place them on the tables in Room 3. December 26 -Wednesday: 9:00am: (Room 3) Disassemble the luminaries. Again, assembly line!! January 7-11: 9:00am: (Monday-Friday) This entire week we Un-decorate the Sanctuary and Commons. 8 Collections Donate Unused Cosmetics To H.E.R. Shelter It s time to clean it out for the New Year. The H.E.R. shelter is dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence by providing resources to victims. Women flee their situations with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Let s help make spirits brighter this Christmas season. Please place NEW OR UNUSED makeup items in the H.E.R. Shelter box in the Commons.
