MOMENTS WITH CHILDREN Nicole Davis and Olivia Delgado PRAYER Clara Lanesskog Awesome God, whom no image can encompass, no definition encircle, and yet who meets us in the gentle touch of love, the beauty of a flower, the laughter and wisdom of children. thank you for being real, for being compassionate, for being the Creator of the universe. Thank you for Jesus, who was kind and wise and who was Your Son. Thank you for our church, this body, that is sometimes boring and sometimes fun, but most of all is a place to connect with people and worship God and eat pizza. Thank you for pizza, pizza, pizza and vegetables (even though they should taste better). Help us work together to end homelessness and school shootings. Help us create together better gun laws. Help us stand together against racism. Help us come together in support of gay marriage. continued > 3

4 We believe that You want us to have fun and that video games, sleep, baseball, swimming, eating pizza, and having friends are all ways to have fun. We believe that you want us to help others, but that loving someone else begins with loving ourselves and sharing our pizza. Help us to move beyond our attempts to limit You, to treat You only as a concept, or to eliminate You from all that is earthy, sensuous, or vibrant. Help us to experience You in each other and in every particle of Your spectacular universe. Amen. *HYMN In Christ There Is No East or West UMH No. 548 pg. 10 SERMON Brianna Incontro, Nora Logsdon, and Jonah Tharpe SHARING OF JOYS AND CONCERNS Olivia Delgado The youth have enjoyed visiting and learning from different faith communities, both at home and during their time in Alaska. One specific thing they have enjoyed is interacting and sharing with one another as an act of worship. At this time, the congregation is invited to share their joys and concerns with one another as a way of lifting them up to God. After each joy or concern is voiced, the people will respond: People: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD AND THE PEOPLE OF GOD THE LORD S PRAYER Our Daddy/Mama/Creator up above, fabulous be your Name. Our world is yours and our service is to you, on earth and in heaven. Give us our daily dose of Jesus. Forgive us our crappy ways, as we forgive those who sin against us. Guide us through our day, help us to stay in the right place, and protect us from the wrong in the world. This is your house, glorified and dedicated to you forever. So be it! Gabrielle Williamson (prayer list on pg. 7) 4

5 COMMISSIONING OF STEPHEN MINISTERS Bette Corner, Arnaldo Rodriguez, Jose Rodriguez Introduction Vows of Stephen Ministers Leader: The task of a Stephen minister is to care for those who are in need in our congregation and beyond, to encourage the hurting, to listen to the stories and the griefs of your care receiver, to walk beside them through life s challenges, and to be a witness to the healing power of Christ. Do you accept the ministry as set forth this day? Ministers: With God s help, I do. Leader: Do you believe God has called you into this care giving ministry? Ministers: Yes, I do. Leader: Do you promise to be a servant of Christ, to let his grace rule in your heart, and by your ministry make a difference in the lives of those you serve. Ministers: With God s help, I do. Blessing and Laying on of Hands Leader: May the God of all peace keep you in sound body, mind, and spirit, and strengthen you for the ministry to which you have been called. There is place to chronicle your personal history, describe your wishes regarding end of life medical care, burial and memorial service, and list personal and financial information your close family members would need to have. Many of you received a hard copy of this work book last spring during CUMC s series on Death, Grief, and Loss in the 21st Century, when we were reminded of the need to consider these matters. We ve just updated Goodbye, Farewell, So Long... to include more detail about memorial services. And we re offering it in three formats: hard copy (available in the church office); online on the CUMC web site in Word so you can fill in the blanks online and save on your own computer; and online in PDF format so you can print out copies to fill in yourself or share with friends and family members. Don t wait to pick up or download your copy.
