We are discussing our way through the book: Public Faith in Action: How to Think Carefully, Engage Wisely and Vote with Integrity. Come join the fellowship! Contacts: Thom Armstrong and Dick Tipping Life Goes On a newly forming group Part of the human experience is facing death, dealing with loss, and working our way through grief that can, at times, threaten to overwhelm us. We need the comfort and support of our community. With this group, we hope to respond to the needs you or others may have for this kind of support, comfort, and objective information. The theme of the first gathering on October 14 is Caring for Caregivers. Many of us are, or have been caregivers to loved ones facing Parkinson s disease, dementia, cancer, or other chronic debilitating conditions. We care for them at home or at a distance. But who provides needed emotional, spiritual, and even physical support to the caregivers? We ll share some insights in the short informational piece to start the October 14 program. Then we will break into smaller groups for discussion. For Fall 2018, Life Goes On will meet: Sunday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. in the Round Building Sunday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. in the Round Building If you would like to be part of Life Goes On or if you d like more information, please contact Rev. 11 Book Group meets again on Monday, October 22, 7:00 p.m. in the Narthex. The book for October is The Two Ruths by CUMC s own, Martha E. Bellinger. You may purchase this book at a reduced rate in the Claremont UMC office. The book is also available from Amazon. Each soft cover of the book in the church office is signed by the author. All of the author s proceeds from this book will be donated to Claremont UMC s Reconciling Committee fund. Even if you do not belong to the Book Group, this is a great historical novel of two Methodist Women (starting before 1968), who become life companions and must find a way to live in rural America, hiding in the closet. Contacts: Peggy Williams & Wilma McLeod WAYS TO GET INVOLVED WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY OCTOBER 7, 2018 The World Communion Sunday special offering funds graduate racial-ethnic World Communion Scholarships, with at least half of the annual amount reserved for ministries beyond the United States. Donations also enhance the undergraduate U.S. Ethnic Scholarship and Ethnic In-Service Training programs. To give, use the offering envelopes provided on October 7, or make your checks out to CUMC with World Communion Sunday on the memo line, or give online at The Mission Connection The Hunger Walk netted $590 a week ago with 8 participants; $5144 was raised in the Border Ministries effort last Spring; Matching Funds from bank rental was $4250 A youth peace intern was sponsored: $1500 $3947 was sent to the Rev. Guillermo Navarette, who provides services for deportees in Tijuana; $3947 was sent to the Joint Commission in our continued support of building construction for Dios es Amor, our sister congregation; The piñata was a part of the Sister Church celebration, which took place on August 12th. ~Al Streyffeler, Missions Chair Share the Gift of Hospitality on Sundays: Please consider greeting before worship, or hosting coffee fellowship following worship. Come, enhance mutual understanding, respect, appreciation, and support between our two faiths. Come, break down dehumanizing stereotypes and engage with one another.
