May God strengthen us in our faith in Him and in our fellowship with one another. PARTICIPATION IN THE SACRAMENT OF THE ALTAR requires a shared understanding of its meaning, namely, that the body and blood of Christ are truly present in, with, and under the bread and wine. One who partakes of this sacrament without discerning the body of Christ eats and drinks judgement upon himself (1 Cor. 11:29). Those who recognize the real presence of Christ in this sacrament and have faith in these words, given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins, are urged to participate. This is what we believe, teach, and confess. It is for this reason that we ask those who are not members of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, to speak to the Pastor or Elder about participation before reception of the Lord s Supper. IF YOU DESIRE TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNION THIS MORNING, we invite you to partake in one of two ways. If you are in agreement with our understanding of this Holy Meal, come forward and receive it with us. If you are uncertain in your understanding of the Lord s Supper, you and your family may still come forward for a blessing from the Pastor. Simply cross your arms over your heart when you are offered the bread and that is a signal to the Pastor that you would like a blessing. We rejoice in the opportunity to worship together with you. IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE COMMUNION ELEMENTS, two types of communion wafers are offered. The one offered by hand contains gluten. If you prefer a gluten free wafer, simply reach for it yourself in the smaller container in the middle of the paten (the plate holding the wafers). Red wine is offered during the distribution. In the center of the individual cup tray you will see cups that appear to contain white wine. They actually contain dealcoholized wine (less than 0.5% alcohol). These cups are intended for those who cannot have alcohol in their diet. Please leave these cups for those whose diet requires it. CHILDREN Worship is a family event, and children are always welcomed with open arms. Quiet Bags for children are in the narthex. Please return the bags after worship. If you desire, a nursery is available for children four and under. It is located in the hallway to your left as you entered the narthex. If it becomes necessary for you to have some private time with your child during the service, a cry room (where you can still participate in the service) is also located in the same hallway. 7 Join us for mid-week Advent Worship Services CALL HIS NAME JESUS as we celebrate the wonderful name of Jesus, the name that is above every name (Philippians 2:9). It is the name we love, the name by which we are saved. Wednesdays beginning December 6. Light meal at 5:30 pm; Worship Service at 6:30 pm. The services celebrate the wonderful name of Jesus as well as other names and titles by which we worship the Child of Bethlehem, our Savior. Dec. 6: Jesus ~You shall call his name Jesus. Luke 1:31 We will praise the name of Jesus our Savior as we prepare during this Advent season to celebrate his birth and anticipate his return on the Last Day. Come, Lord Jesus! Dec. 13: Lamb ~ Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 We will remember how God saved the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt and how he has saved us, whose sins are washed away in the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God. Dec. 20: Emmanuel ~ They shall call his name Emmanuel (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:23 We will celebrate that in Jesus, God is with us! That is the meaning of his wonderful title, Emmanuel. He is the promised, virgin-born Son, God in human flesh. Christmas Eve Services: Son ~ 9:00 am & 7:00 pm She gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger. Luke 2:7 On this holy night, we celebrate the birth of our Savior! For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Christ the Savior was born for you! Christmas Day Service: Word ~ 10:00 am The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory. John 1:14 Today we will celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Child of Bethlehem. The Holy Child Jesus, who is the Lamb, our Shepherd, Emmanuel and the Son of God, is also the Word of God, the Word made flesh. Rejoice with us in the birth of our Savior. 7
