His list of virtues summarizes the ideals of communal stewardship: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. For Paul, practicing these virtues opens our hearts to Christ as individuals and as a worshipping community. This is how the Christian community ought to live. This is how its members should behave in their dealings with others, particularly with fellow believers. As we approach a new year, how might we embrace one of these virtues more fully in order to deepen our relationship with Jesus? 4 Dear Parishioners, Today is the of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. In today s Gospel reading from Luke, Jesus remains behind in the Temple as his parents start their return to Nazareth. After three days Mary and Joseph found Jesus in the Temple. Jesus then returns to Nazareth with them in which he, progressed steadily in wisdom and age and grace before God and men. I m sure that Mary and Joseph worried about Jesus and his safety as much then as parents do today if their child is lost for three days. We have Amber Alert today and back in Jesus time there was no system to find lost children. There was a lot of kidnapping in those days and children would be sold for slavery. Mary and Joseph had to be very relieved to find Jesus in the Temple especially since they both knew that they had been given the responsibility of caring for Jesus, the son of the Most High. Mary received the request from the Angel Gabriel and Joseph received the request from an Angel in a dream. They were both told to name the child Jesus. Mary is told that he would be given the throne of his ancestor David and his reign will have no end and Joseph is told that Jesus will save his people from their sins. They were told that Mary conceived Jesus by the Holy Spirit. So obviously Mary and Joseph knew they had very special responsibility to protect and raise Jesus. Mary and Joseph indeed did very good as parents since Luke s Gospel said that Jesus, progressed steadily in wisdom and age and grace before God and men after Jesus went back to Nazareth with his parents. Bible Study The next Bible Study session will be Monday, January 14, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick s. Pop Tabs The 7th & 8th grade CCD class at St. Patrick s is collecting pop tabs for St. Monica s in Africa. They use these tabs to make purses to sell to help support women and children who have been terrorized by the Lord s Resistance Army. One purse will support a women and child for three daily meals and water for six months. There is tubs in the vestibule of both churches for your tabs. If you would like to see some purses go to google and type in pop tab purses in Africa. Donations Needed The Community Food and Services Co-op is in ongoing need of your generous donations. The suggested item of donation for this month is CEREAL. Mass/Parish Activities Cancelation Due to Weather During the weekdays from Monday to Friday if Benton Community School Corporation cancels school for the day then there will be no Mass or parish activities on those days. If there is only a two hour delay we will have Mass. If there is a travel warning declared of no traveling except for emergency management workers then there will be no Mass or parish activities for the day all days of the week including Sundays. Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend What is a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend? It is a positive, renewing experience for couples that have a good marriage, but want to make it even better!
