4 Dear Parishioners, In the Gospel reading from Luke the apostles asked Jesus to, Increase our faith. Jesus tells them that they only need faith the size of a mustard seed. In the second reading from Timothy St. Paul writes that God had given them a power of love and self-control and goes on to tell Timothy s community to, bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God. In the first reading the author, Prophet Habakkuk, writes in his prayer to God, Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and clamorous discord. We can also say that there is destruction, violence, clamorous discord and strife before us. We hear about the violence of terrorists and the violence of individuals weekly. We hear about the destruction of storms and other natural disasters. We hear continually of violence on the nightly news. It is seldom that I do not watch the 10:00pm Indianapolis news without the headlines including a story about someone who was killed by crime or auto accident in Indianapolis or the surrounding communities. God has given us the power of love, the strength and self-control to counter the violence and destruction that we find among ourselves in this society. Our actions of care and concern can be of help to others and ourselves. Our caring actions come from the strength that God gives us. A kind word, a friendly visit, or a helping hand can make all the difference to someone that is suffering from physical, emotional or mental hardships. Our faith is put into action and the extremely small mustard seed of hope and love in the heart of the afflicted can become a large plant of hope and love in the afflicted and in self. God bless you, Fr. Bob Pray for the Sick Let us pray for these sick: Virgil Schutter, Evan Gant, Jack Allison, Kim Dahnke, Bob Zahnke, Sharon Eberle, Jack Blankman, Collette Lavelle, Chuck Mailloux, Ron Sondgerath, Sue Glotzbach, Charlotte Cain, Amber Brost, Rob Sorenson, Paul Satchell, Phillip Gobel, Janet Schutter, Dick Atha, Dick Bowman, Mark Cochran, Bernard Krebs, Jason Cole and Mary Klemme. Fruitful Harvest 2016 St. Charles and St. Patrick s will kick off Fruitful Harvest 2016, Stewards of Christ...Sharing our Gifts this weekend. As a Catholic community, we are called to respond to God s grace in our lives. Fruitful Harvest is an opportunity to respond to His grace by sharing your blessings. I ask that you prayerfully consider your pledge and plan to participate in our diocesan appeal, Fruitful Harvest Thank you for our continued stewardship and prayers as we begin this next diocesan appeal, Stewards of Christ...Sharing Our Gifts. 5 40 Days of Life Please join the Fall 40 Days for Life Campaign, which starts Wednesday, September 28 and runs daily from 7 am to 7 pm through November 6th. Volunteers are needed to pray daily outside Planned Parenthood located at 964 Mezzanine Drive in Lafayette. During this time, pray and fast to help the unborn and for an end to abortion. You can pray individually, with a friend or relative, or even arrange to come pray with a group such as a Scout troop, a school class, sports team, etc. Come pray once for an hour or as often as your schedule allows. Invite your family members, co-workers and fellow Christians to join this important life-saving effort. For more information and to register for prayer vigil hours please visit You can also 40daysforlifelafayette@gmail.com or call All are welcome! Come Spend Some Time With Jesus in Adoration We all know our world is a mess. We all say What can I do? You can pray and you do. But praying before the Blessed Sacrament is so powerful. It is so peaceful and calming to just sit with Jesus. Pray, read, listen, meditate. Come and spend some quiet time with Jesus and see what a difference it makes in your life. We can change things, one prayer at a time. There is Adoration every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 midnight in the Chapel in the Annex at Sacred Heart. Sign up for a set hour every week or just stop by. You will be blessed. For more information contact Debbie Barnard at (765) Holistic Prayer Journey To schedule a Healing Session call Please leave a message that includes your phone number for a return call. Listening Retreat at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Where is God calling you? Let the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the Woods, Indiana, lead you toward deeper contemplative listening during a free weekend retreat for single, Catholic women ages The retreat takes place November 18-20, at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. During the retreat, you can explore where God is calling you, ask any questions you have about vocation, get an inside look at life as a Sister of Providence, get to know Saint Mother Theodore Guerin and more. To learn more, contact Sister Editha Ben at or eben@spsmw.org, or register online at ListeningRetreat.SistersofProvidence.org. Natural Family Planning In order to truly trust God, you have to trust Him in every aspect of your life - including your family planning. Natural Family planning can help you prayerfully discern what His will is for your family, and is safer, healthier, more effective and morally more acceptable than using contraception! For more information contact Susan Hoefer, Diocesan NFP Coordinator at shoefer@dol-in.org or (765) Holy Hour for America Mark your Calendar! The first Wednesday of every month there will be a Holy Hour for America with Rosary at 7 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth Chapel. Sponsored by the Legion of Mary. Office for Vocations Rev.
