Every day, express thankfulness to the Lord and to others. Encounter the Lord each day - Find time to be with the Lord each day, whether it be for an hour or ten minutes. Have a conversation with the Lord. Give your joys and worries to Him as well. Allow God s love to transform them. Our encounters will keep our eyes and ears open to the presence of Christ in our midst. Make a difference in your parish community - Believe it or not, your parish community can use your talents. Offering your talents to your faith community is one of the most effective ways to feel useful and connected to others, and it is a potentially life-changing New Year s resolution. 4 Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord. Astrologers came to visit the newborn king that they had learned about from their studies of the stars. Astrology at that time was the study that interpreted the influence of the heavenly bodies on human affairs. The astrologers were told by King Herod to give him any information that they found out when they went to Bethlehem to find the newborn king. The Gospel says that they received a message in a dream not to return to Herod after they had been with Jesus, Joseph and Mary. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, also received a dream in which an angel told him to escape to Egypt with the child because Herod intends to do away with the child. Both Joseph and the astrologers received dreams from angels. St. Paul in his letter to the Ephesians wrote about God s secret plan in which the Gentiles in Jesus Christ are coheirs with the Jews in God s salvation plan for the human race. So in today s readings we have the subject matters of astrologers, dreams and God s secret plan. Have you ever thought of Scriptures as being a mystery story and have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a dream in which an Angel spoke to you? I suspect the angel would tell you what you needed to know to help God fulfill His Eternal Plan of establishing the Kingdom of God and your part in being a servant of Jesus Christ to fulfill God s plan for His Kingdom. As of December 21 pledges received for St. Charles are $35, and their goal is $43,245 and pledges received for St. Patrick are $36,310 and their goal is $37,174. Bible Study The next Bible Study session will be Monday, January 14, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick s. Pop Tabs The 7th & 8th grade CCD class at St. Patrick s is collecting pop tabs for St. Monica s in Africa. They use these tabs to make purses to sell to help support women and children who have been terrorized by the Lord s Resistance Army. One purse will support a women and child for three daily meals and water for six months. There is tubs in the vestibule of both churches for your tabs. If you would like to see some purses go to google and type in pop tab purses in Africa. Adoration at Sacred Heart Substitutes are desperately needed for Adoration at Sacred Heart Chapel. The hours have been shortened to 9am - 11pm every Wednesday. Adorers are always needed too. Adoration is open to everyone. If interested in being a sub or an adorer contact Pat Besse at Sacred Heart or Debbie Barnard at (765) Life Teen Soup Dinner Benton County Life Teen will be hosting a Soup Dinner at St. Charles Church Hall on Saturday, January 19 from 5:30-7:00. Free will donations will help support this summer s mission trip and various Life Teen field trips and activities. We hope to see you there!

Donations Needed The Community Food and Services Co-op is in ongoing need of your generous donations. The suggested item of donation for this month is CLEANING SUPPLIES/LAUNDRY DETERGENT. Mass/Parish Activities Cancelation Due to Weather During the weekdays from Monday to Friday if Benton Community School Corporation cancels school for the day then there will be no Mass or parish activities on those days. If there is only a two hour delay we will have Mass. If there is a travel warning declared of no traveling except for emergency management workers then there will be no Mass or parish activities for the day all days of the week including Sundays. Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend What is a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend? It is a positive, renewing experience for couples that have a good marriage, but want to make it even better!
