Luke 1:39-45 Prepare For Next Sunday s Readings INTRODUCTION In next Sunday s Gospel, (December 30), the readings speak to us about living as a family and a community. They confirm that both require work, generosity, patience and openness to the unexpected. We look to the Holy Family as a model for ourselves, and we learn with some relief that Jesus parents were as challenged and confounded as we often are. We can be like them because they were like us in so many ways. PSR classes will resume on Sunday, January 6th 3 A Pilgrim s Progress. Our faithful Advent journey has brought us only hours from Christmas. By prayerful preparation and making the Sacrament of Reconciliation a priority, we are ready for the joy of last week s Gaudate Sunday to now be extended into the new year. I want to thank everyone from our two parish families for all you do for our parishes all year long and for your kindnesses to me personally during this holy season. So many people work so hard throughout the year to make possible our prayer and worship, our formation programs, and our service to the community. May each of you know the reward of your faithfulness and sacrifice. Today s Gospel depicts the 2 nd Joyful Mystery of the Holy Rosary: the Visitation. Mary and her cousin Elizabeth, each expectant mothers, remind us how God comes to us in the midst of family life and is always seeking to use us for his purposes. It is precisely when we humbly place our lives at the service of others that amazing things continue to happen and God is made present in new ways. Next weekend on the Feast of the Holy Family (and within the octave of Christmas), I ask you to join in the Consecration to the Holy Family at each of our masses. It will be by imitating the virtues of the Holy Family and seeking their intercession that each of us will be able to live the joy and peace of these holy days throughout the new year. This will be a silent, guided retreat based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. It s a peaceful break from the chaos and confusion of everyday life. It s like a 3-day vacation with Christ on their beautiful 80-acre campus high on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. All meals and private lodging are provided. Our retreat begins the evening of March 7 and concludes March 10, There is no set fee to attend a retreat at White House! White House operates on a free will offering basis, asking those in attendance to simply give what they feel they can at the conclusion of the retreat.
