Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21 Prepare For Next Sunday s Readings INTRODUCTION In next Sunday s Gospel, (February 3), who really wants to be called upon to change, let alone promote it in others? The prophets surely didn t, and Jesus early on heard the reaction to his sermon among his own people. Today s readings remind us that our faith is grounded in God s word. That always involves the call to be and live differently. Just as God s love sustained others, we are equipped with spiritual gifts, especially love, to respond to that same call. As part of your New Year s resolutions, please consider joining the IC choir where your voice will be appreciated, most especially by Mary. All singers from grades 5 to adult are welcome to join in song for these coming Sunday s in ordinary time: Jan 27 th Feb 3 rd Feb 10 th Feb 17 th March 3 rd Rehearsal for each Sunday is at 9:30 am that morning in the choir loft. No need to spend an extra night out, just a few extra minutes before mass each week preparing for the sacred liturgy. If coming alone seems daunting, consider bringing a friend or a family member. While the various apparitions of Mary throughout salvation history are considered private revelations and are not binding on the faithful as doctrines that define our Faith, several we know have been approved by the Church. This approval simply means nothing the apparitions and their messages contain conflict with Church teaching and therefore we are free to believe and learn from them. I believe that the approved messages of Our Lady at Fatima, Portugal in 1917 provide an important prism for understanding world events since then and are a helpful tool for our personal growth in holiness (check out for full information on the Fatima message) (for the history minded Paul Kengor s amazing book A Pope and A President tells Our Lady s role in the fall of the Soviet empire) An excellent CD: Our Lady of Fatima and the Fall of Communism is available in the vestibule. An important part of the Fatima message is Our Lady s request to Sr. Lucia for the FIVE FIRST SATURDAYS. This devotion includes on the first Saturday of five successive months going to Reconciliation, receiving Communion, praying five decades of the Rosary, and meditating on the mysteries for 15 minutes with the intention of making reparation for blasphemies and indifference against the Faith. To facilitate this devotion we have an 8:30 mass every First Saturday preceded by the communal recitation of the Rosary at 8:00 A.M while Reconciliation is being offered. Our mass is bi-lingual with the readings and homily in English and Spanish. Followed by a Mexican flavored social in the parish center. This coming Saturday has the added significance of being the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, Candlemas. It is the unofficial closing of our Christmas celebration. All are welcome! Please come!
