2 IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH Mattoon, Illinois OCTOBER 26, 2014 THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Chili Cook Off This Sunday, October 26 3:30-4:00 p.m. St. Mary School s Parking Lot Immediately following the Trunk or Treat in the Parish Center Starting at 4:15 p.m. Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest? Matthew 22:36 INTRODUCTION God has expectations of us. God directed ancient Israel to care for the weak and defenseless, because God is a God of compassion. All law is summed up in the great commandments to love God above all and one s neighbor as oneself. The commandment to love seems simple, but it is the hardest of all to live out. SCRIPTURE READINGS Exodus 22:20-26: God is compassionate to all. 1 Thessalonians 1:5-10: Be imitators of Paul and of the Lord. Matthew 22:34-40: You shall love the Lord, your God...and your neighbor as yourself. REFLECT ON TODAY S READINGS How was it tough to love someone this week? What/who helps you stay centered on what really counts in life? This was a powerful witness to the dignity and the worth of every human life. We prayed for all women and men who enter Planned Parenthood, their unborn children, and the office employees of the largest abortion provider in the U.S. We prayed that people will realize abortion is not about children who might come into the world, but is about children who are already in the world, living and growing in the womb. Everyone is encouraged to pray and fast for the full 40 days of this pro-life campaign.
