1 ST. MARY MYSTICAL ROSE GUIDING LIGHT We the faithful of St. Mary Mystical Rose Parish are a Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Detroit. We serve God through His Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, with the empowerment and the strength of the Holy Spirit: to celebrate the Holy Sacraments and Worship, Christian Service and Faith Education, to evangelize and practice our faith in active stewardship--with the faith, spirit and humility of Mary, the Rose of God and our Patron Saint. Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time He [Jesus] was amazed at their lack of faith, (Mark 6:1-6). Pete and Simone were a young couple who struggled in the beginning of their family life. Pete, a Baptist was married to a faithful and active Catholic, Simone. Pete s parents and family disapproved of their marriage in the Catholic Church. They even disowned Pete from any family affairs or gatherings. Their counselor and priest guided Pete and Simone on what to do. Since Pete was a good builder and a construction expert, their priest advised them to go with the fliphouse business. Their struggles and humble beginnings paid off. Pete and Simone had three kids and live a decent life. They are active and strong in their faith and love of the Lord. When asked about their success, Pete and Simone owe it to God and the guidance of their priest friend. Today s Gospel story, and today s message relates, if not to some of us, it happens to all of us in one way or the other. As Christians, where is your faith today? Are you a rebellious member of the household of God? Many have fallen away from their faith in many ways. Some people try to please themselves by letting their egos guide one self-interest ideas and hedonistic thoughts. Instead, of being surrendering and humbling in the Lord s way, they instead their own to master-guided them. Jesus, according the Holy Gospel according to Mark, was amazed at His own people s lack of faith. He was accompanied by His disciples who witnessed His miracles and healings. Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him?... Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary.? All of these questions have been asked by faithless people about Jesus. Are you one of them? Since Jesus heard and saw the mockery of His own people, He didn t bless or perform any mighty deeds for them. Brothers and sisters, as we journey together in our faith, open up our hearts with humility and pray the Mother of God, to soothe and mold our spirits in the heart of Jesus. As today s Psalm 123, refrain resounds in our ears, Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for his mercy. Like the story of Pete and Simone, let us put our trust and faith in our Lord, the giver of life. Let Jesus feed our souls and strengthen our spirits in His divine love, the Eucharist. Put our trust and depend on Him, Lord, have pity on us for we are more than sated with contempt; our souls are more than sated with the mockery of the arrogant, with the contempt of the proud, (Ps 123). When Jesus is here right now, do we still have faith in Him? Lord have mercy on us! Amen. CSA Catholic Services Appeal Please, be generous to our Catholic Service Appeal this year. The CSA is our Parish/Archdiocesan Campaign annually. The Campaign serves and helps our Archdiocese with the ministries and administration of the Archdiocese and parishes like us. Our Parish CSA Target this year is $41, Our Parish is a Joyful Giver!!! We are grateful and thank you for your support and generosity last year. We made our CSA target last year - $43, Ministries of the Sacraments of Marriage, Baptism, Confirmation; assists Catholic education and our faith; education of lay ministries in the Permanent Deaconate; Religious Education; workshops for catechists and leaders of religious education; trainings of Seminarians to the priesthood, etc. Please, you are welcome to put your pledge card in the Collection basket or send it to our Rectory s Parish Office. You are welcome to register by calling our Parish Office The Rite for Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and the Rite for Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) who would like to join our Catholic Faith is now open for registration. (continued on Page 6) PARISH MEMBERSHIP: We joyfully welcome new members to our parish. Please register at the parish office during business hours. We also ask that you let us know if you plan to move from the parish. INFANT BAPTISM: Parents must be registered and regularly attending the Sunday Eucharist to begin Baptism preparation. Baptismal Preparation is held quarterly. Call the parish office to for next scheduled date. The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the first and third Sunday of every month. MARRIAGE: If one of the engaged couple (or their parents) is registered at St. Mary s arrangements may be made personally by the couple at least six months in advance months is preferred. SICK CALLS: We are happy to visit the sick and bring Communion to them. Please notify the parish office. ANNULMENT PROCESS: If you are contemplating filing for an annulment; know that it is a healing process. It takes up to 18 months for the Tribunal to complete each case, so please take that into consideration. Call the parish office for more information.

5 Parish Life - Christian Service Catholic Services Appeal Father Ken Mazur, PIME, will speak about missionary discipleship at July s Theology on Tap, to be held at Detroit s Traffic Jam and Snug this Wednesday, July 8. Gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal help fund these monthly fellowship evenings, which give young adults in the Archdiocese of Detroit the opportunity to reflect on their faith in a fun and relaxed setting. Held each month on the 8th in either the city or the suburbs, Theology on Tap gatherings feature speakers on topics relating to religion and theology. The Young Adult and Campus Ministry Office coordinates activities for young adults ages 18 to 35, so they may grow in their faith through evangelization, catechesis, spiritual growth, liturgical formation, social events, and service.
