1 ST. MARY MYSTICAL ROSE GUIDING LIGHT We the faithful of St. Mary Mystical Rose Parish are a Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Detroit. We serve God through His Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, with the empowerment and the strength of the Holy Spirit: to celebrate the Holy Sacraments and Worship, Christian Service and Faith Education, to evangelize and practice our faith in active stewardship--with the faith, spirit and humility of Mary, the Rose of God and our Patron Saint. October 11, 2015 Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time to whom we must render an account, (Hebrews 4:12-13). Today s Readings from Wisdom 7:7-11; Hebrews 4:12-13; and the Holy Gospel of Mark 10:17-30; provide testimony to what is more than gold, richness, and life itself. To whom we owe life itself, blessings, and everything BUT God! The First Reading from the Book of Wisdom 10, King Solomon owed it to God the wisdom he acquired and it s necessary to lead and guide the people who entrusted to his care and leadership. He prayed for the virtue of wisdom so that he could make good and right decisions of his kingdom. He referred to wisdom as, I chose to have her rather than the light, because the splendor of her never yields to sleep. Solomon didn t pray for richness or kingdoms to be under his rule, but he only ask for this virtue that exceed all things to abide and live with him. On the other hand, the Second Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews community, he reminded them of the living and effective word of God. Like Solomon in the First Reading, he referred to Wisdom, as living and effective, reliable and dependable to him at all times. This Wisdom is the word of God. The Word of God is Wiser, living and effective, sharper and penetrating to the soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart, (Hebrews 4:12-13). When one possess wisdom and live and grow in the Word of God, one lives out God s commandments with prudence and clarity of one s faith. Reverence God and honor Him all the days of our lives and share His bounty and blessings that we ve been given, we lack nothing, for discipleship is servicing and loving the Master, our Lord and God. Therefore, opening our hearts and souls to learn the Wisdom and the Word of God, helps us to render an account to God to whom we owe our life and existence. Amen. Year of: World Day of Vocations Year for Marriage Divine Mercy Consecrated Life. We continue to pray for Vocations to the Priesthood, Consecrated Life, Marriage Couple, and to the Divine Mercy of God to open our hearts to learn to be opened to our own vocations. Vocations are with us from God: Vocations to the Priesthood, Vocations to the Consecrated Life as a Nun or a Brother, Vocation to Marriage and procreation to the gift of life, Vocation to be single, Vocation to the Permanent Deaconate, Vocation to the laity, a special calling to praise and glorify the Lord in ministries of the parish, and faith community. Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday, a special day on which we unite ourselves with Catholics all over the world to pray and sacrifice for the missionary efforts of the Church. The observance of World Mission Sunday is truly worldly as prayers and support of the missionary work of the Church is done in every parish church and chapel throughout the entire world. All Catholics respond to the request for this special day by our Holy Father who has asked the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith to plan and promote this holy work of First Evangelization. The Society, founded by Pauline Jericot in France, was given the title Pontifical in 1922 and has a special responsibility in the Universal Church. It is under the direction of the Holy Father who together with the entire body of Bishops remind the faithful of their baptismal call to mission, as they gather basic support for more than 1,200 mission dioceses in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands and Latin America. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, from the very start of his pontificate has not ceased to remind us that we are a truly missionary Church and its mandate to spread the faith has the highest priority. World Mission Sunday gives us the opportunity to join him in this faith-filled concern of his. This week you have received special envelopes from the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for the mission collection to be taken next weekend. It is suggested that families contribute for the missions at this time, thus enrolling themselves in the Society as well as offering substantial help to our missionaries who spread the gospel. Do, be generous in supporting the Pontifical Mission Society for the Propagation of the Faith which is the Church s principal means of spreading the gospel throughout the world.
