For What It s Worth On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this... -Luke 24:1-4 NIV about the empty tomb? Next to the birth of Christ, the empty tomb is at center of our Christian faith. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is God s reminder to all of us that life goes on beyond the life we enjoy here. about your life? Does God have any special plans for you? Do you know? What if God does have special plans for you. How will you find out? about McCabe? What will McCabe UMC look like in ten years or twenty? How will McCabe be different? How will McCabe be the same? about tomorrow? What if... tomorrow doesn t come? Are you ready for the part that comes next? about our amazing God? 2 Bishop s 2014 Miracle Offering at Annual Conference Pastor Rick and McCabe s Lay delegates are preparing to attend the 2014 Annual Conference of the Dakotas United Methodist Church. The Conference will be held in Rapid City, SD, June 4-7. This message is to share with you that Bishop Ough is calling for a 2014 Miracle Offering at Conference. The Bishop s Miracle Offering goal has two parts: to raise $100,000 conference-wide in cash to launch a new regional congregation in Kenmare, ND, located on the eastern edge of the Bakken Oil Rush area; and, to gather clothing and household items to resupply the Watford City Mobile Thrift Store which is operated by UMC lay missionaries Jim & Kathie Konsor. The Mobile Thirft Store ministers to those who desperately need assistance in transitioning into an extremely expensive and often inhospitable environment. This ministry is also enabling the Konsor s to build trust and position the United Methodist Church for the launch of a new worshipping congregation in the Watford City area. Members of McCabe s Missions Ministry Team wish to invite you to participate in supporting of the Bishop s Miracle Offering goal of $100,000 which is his conference-wide goal. An offering envelope will be inserted in McCabe s worship bulletins on the following Sundays: May 18, 25, and June1. In addition, let s help resupply the Watford City Mobile Thrift Store! The call is for clean, new or nearly-new items that are packaged or boxed for easy handling. Please attach a label to the box listing the contents of the box. You are invited to take a few minutes during the month of May to visit the Love Your Neighbor display in the Great Hall. At the display the following donated household and clothing items may be dropped off: Coats, including winter coats of all sizes Blankets (no comforters) Bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths Boot socks for men or regular socks for men Silverware Frying pans 10 and 12 2-quart and 4-quart cooking kettles Dishware, glasses, mugs Kitchen utensils Kitchen towels, dish cloths Small appliance - crock pots, toasters, coffee pots, etc. in good working condition Medium sized 12 oscillating fans Please watch the Sunday bulletins for project updates. Respectfully submitted, Karen Workman Bismarck McCabe UMC - Lay Member to Annual Conference Blanket Sunday Celebration Please join the Missions Ministry Team in celebrating Blanket Sunday on Mother s Day, Sunday, May 11. this is an opportunity to honor your mother or a special person in your life by making a monetary donation. Your donation will purchase a blanket(s) for a child or an adult experiencing the ravages of a disaster. Very soon enjoy a special Blanket Sunday reading at worship, find an interesting display in the Great Hall, but, most importantly, honor that special someone with the purchase of a cozy, warm blanket for a brother or sister around the world. When disasters rob you of everything, a blanket can make a world of difference. Proceeds will be sent to church World Service. Please watch the weekly Sunday Worship Bulletins for Blanket Sunday updates. McCabe Lawn Care Teams Needed Rumor has it that spring is here and summer is on the way. The church lawn will need mowing. We are organizing the weekly mowing teams to take care of the lawns around the church on Thursday evenings. We will need help as soon as the lawn finally turns green. We have all the required equipment for the mowing reams. Each team consists of three people and the time is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. To join is easy: Leave a note in the offering plate with your name and contact information Call or the church office Stop by the church office and say Sign me up!. Band Day Parade, May 9 Goodies are needed to sell at the Band Day Parade. Please bring your individually wrapped 50 cent size bars and cookies to the church by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9. Steer Inc. Job Opening The mission ministry of STEER, Inc. has an opening for a fulltime bookkeeper (30-40 hours/week). Requirements are an associate of arts degree or comparable experience. 5 Thoughts from Justin Balzer As we approach the end of the school year, I wanted to take this time to thank everyone who has been such a great help and blessing this year. All of those that volunteered their time to help the youth group in some fashion deserve a great amount of credit for helping the youth group to have a successful year. From 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Always be joyful. Keep on praying. No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is god s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. So again I thank all of you that have been so helpful and thoughtful this year and going forward. As we move forward towards summer, I want to let you know that I will continue to make sure that the youth group here at McCabe is a great place for the youth of McCabe. I am always open to ideas, so if anyone has mission project ideas, requests of the youth group for fun activities, please feel free to let me know. This summer the youth group is planning a mission trip to Urban Immersion in Minneapolis, August I will be sending information during youth group, but if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask, my is: justinbalzer@yahoo.com. If you have attended, welcome back! It will be held at the Bismarck Municipal Country Club. Tickets will be sold between church services, Adults $10.00, Children $6.00. As usual Circles will meet on Thursday, May 15. It will be our last meeting until September. Snacks and lunch were served at the WDA Music Festival with great success on Thursday, April 3. United Methodist Women all came together for spring Focus on April 5. This included all Bismarck UMW along with Sterling, Mandan and Dickinson. The UMW from Legacy UMC were great Hostesses. We all enjoyed hymn singing, great fellowship, a delicious lunch, and a tour of their new church. We discussed the themes of UMW in the coming year...the Roma of Europe, the Church and People with Disabilities and How Is It with Your Soul. If you are interested in any of these themes, please join with us. Remember, in God we can! Thank you for another wonderful season and I look forward to meeting again next fall. -Nurse Jane Rebuilding Together Saturday, May 3, 2014 Rebuilding Together Bismarck/Mandan, is a nonprofit, community based organization, that has become one of the leading volunteer organizations in the Capital City. The organization is dedicated to helping low-income homeowners especially the elderly, people with disabilities, and families with children, live in warmth, safety and independence. The program embraces people of all faiths, all walks of life, all racial and ethnic groups, all ages and all sexes. It is not affiliated with any particular church or religion. Rebuilding Together works in partnership with local corporations; foundations and civic, educational, religious, and community organizations to rebuild houses and communities. All of the work is performed by servant laborers, utilizing donated materials and resources, at no cost to the homeowner with the work being done on a one-day blitz. This year s project is scheduled for Saturday, May 3.
